Tropical Sophistication in the Heart of the Big Island

Stepping into this Waimea staple feels like shedding the stress of travel the moment you cross the threshold. Located within the scenic Mauna Lani resort area, the space embraces an open-air design that lets the gentle Kohala Coast breeze circulate through the dining room. You will hear the distant clink of cocktail shakers and the low, rhythmic hum of conversation, creating an island-casual energy that feels refined rather than rushed.

Island-Inspired Flavors

The kitchen leans heavily into Pacific Rim influences, with the macadamia nut-crusted snapper standing out as a perennial favorite for those seeking the freshest catch. The coconut shrimp is another staple that hits the table piping hot, accompanied by a tangy papaya-seed slaw that cuts through the richness. Each dish emphasizes bright, tropical profiles that pair perfectly with their signature island cocktails—expect heavy pours and plenty of fresh citrus.

What to Expect

The architecture is designed to capture the quintessential Hawaii aesthetic, featuring high ceilings and dark wood accents that provide a welcome respite from the midday sun. It is an ideal spot for vacationing families or couples looking for a sunset drink after a round of golf. While the atmosphere is generally relaxed, keep in mind that the popularity of this location means the dining room can get quite boisterous during peak dinner hours. Finding a spot in the primary parking lot can occasionally require a bit of patience, but the proximity to the surrounding luxury resorts makes it a highly convenient stop for anyone exploring the Waimea and Kohala region. Whether you are craving a light pupu platter or a full multi-course meal, the consistent service and focus on local ingredients keep this restaurant a reliable cornerstone of the island's dining scene.

I had a great experience at Tommy Bahama! The food was delicious and I drank the best strawberry daiquiri ever. The outdoor seating was not too hot. I enjoyed the meal very much!

Beautiful restaurant, but a little pricey for what you get. We decided to stop in, as the reviews are very good and it’s close to our rental in Waikoloa. I really liked the Lump Blue Crab Bisque and would highly recommend it if you’re in the mood for something small. I wish it came with a bit larger of a portion, but it was delicious nonetheless! A lot of the entrees were more expensive than we were willing to pay, so we stuck to lower priced items. You’re definitely paying more for the location and the atmosphere, but all the food we ordered was good.

The restaurant has a beautiful setting, perfect for enjoying a meal in the tropical ambiance. The food was excellent—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish we ordered was delicious and prepared with high-quality ingredients. Great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere make it a place we will definitely return to on our next trip to the Big Island. Highly recommended!

I have been coming here for many years and I am warmly welcomed every time. The food is always spot on! I asked the musician to play a Disney song and she played the Moana song. It was a very memorable evening. (These are lamb skewers not beef)

There are two of these locations on Big Island, and directed me to one I hadn't been. The one in Queens Marketplace is excellent, and I highly recommend their 3 to 5 pm Happy Hour, from which I ordered two Blackened Fish Tacos ($8 each) which would have been $27 on their dinner menu, so I saved $11 and had a delicious meal.

Tommy Bahama is a great spot on the island for a large group. I go with my family and we are a group of 13! The food comes out fast and tastes good. They are very good about any dietary restrictions or changes to dishes.

Wonderful experience! We showed up Sat evening with a party of 7 & no reservation. We were seated within 45 minutes. Our dinner was AMAZING and our server was great! Everyone loved their dinner.

Seems like a very new location. My son and I really enjoyed our food, however it was too windy to be seated comfortably outside and items were blowing away. Including the chips off my son's plate! He really liked the fish tacos but thought the salsa was so-so. My Hawaiian flat bread was good, but not so amazing I would spend the $$ again. Really over paid for this lunch!

We went to both locations on the Big Island & enjoyed both. We tried the coconut ship, tenderloin salad, Tuna poke and Key lime pie. Everything was excellent. The Mai Tai & Margarita were both tasty as well. Service was very pleasant & efficient. The atmosphere with covered areas, live music, beautiful decor and fire tables was very nice. It would be nice if they took reservations as we had to wait quite a long time for a group of 6.
