The Fish Hopper Seafood and Steaks
About
A View of Kona’s Waterfront
Perched right above the water in the heart of Kailua-Kona, The Fish Hopper Seafood and Steaks offers an quintessential Big Island dining experience. The sound of waves crashing against the pier serves as the constant soundtrack while you dine on an expansive lanai that puts you front-row for Hawaii’s legendary sunsets. It is the kind of place where salt air mingles with the scent of searing garlic and fresh macadamia nut-crusted catch.
From Pier to Plate
Chef-driven and locally inspired, the menu focuses on the bounty of the Pacific. Their signature dish, the Kona coffee-rubbed steak, balances the deep, earthy bitterness of local beans with the richness of a perfectly charred cut. If you prefer the day's ocean harvest, the fresh-caught ahi is often delivered just steps away from the kitchen, ensuring a level of freshness that defines Kona seafood culture. The dining room feels open and breezy, though the popularity of the sunset seating means you might need to navigate a bustling crowd if you arrive during the golden hour.
Island Hospitality
This is a spot suited for those who want a classic, no-nonsense Hawaiian meal. It feels less like a formal event and more like a celebration of coastal living. While the interior can get quite energetic and loud during dinner service, the intensity of the atmosphere is balanced by the calm, sprawling views of the harbor. Whether you are looking to toast with a tropical cocktail after a day of snorkeling in the nearby bays or seeking a reliable steakhouse experience in the Kealakekua region, this pier-side landmark anchors the local culinary scene.

As a celiac I was grateful to find this restaurant for dinner. They have a separate menu to order all the safe gluten free food. I had the yellowfin tuna, and it was incredible. Absolutely fresh ingredients and so flavorful. Seated my family of 8. Beautiful ocean front view.

Great waterfront restaurant right on the main drag along the beach. Stopped in for lunch when we first got to Kona. I had a mahi mahi and shrimp salad with grilled watermelon and blueberries of of their special menu for the day. It was delicious. My wife had a Kahlua pork sandwich which she thought was equally good, but she said the fries weren't great. They also have a happy hour that starts at 11 am. We'll definitely return while were in Kona. Probably more than once.

An Upscale Restaurant (casual dress) with free on-site limited parking. Excellence throughout! Great Food for Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner. Centrally location on Alii' Dr. This is our Original Favorite for its Location and Food. We've enjoyed a few fish dinners including lobster for dinner and crab cakes or benedict for breakfast and meals were always delicious. Servers here are some of the Friendliest and know their Menu well. I don't know of any better Authentic Restaurant in Kona except maybe the Kona Inn. Fish Hopper's Breakfast Menu has an excellent variety is very good and priced well. They also have a good variety of fish dishes that are wonderful. Every item we've tried has been Delicious!

Fresh Flavors and Stunning Views at Fish Hopper. If you are looking for a dining experience that perfectly captures the spirit of Kona, Fish Hopper is a must-visit. From the moment you sit down, you are greeted by a beautiful, unobstructed ocean view that makes for an incredible backdrop to any meal. The food certainly lives up to the scenery. I highly recommend the Hawaiian Ono; it was prepared perfectly—fresh, flavorful, and a true highlight of the local seafood offerings. What really made the visit stand out, however, was the exceptional service. My server, Nico, was attentive, friendly, and ensured everything was timed perfectly throughout the meal. It is rare to find such a great balance of a world-class view, delicious cuisine, and genuine hospitality. I will definitely be back!

Great food. I was here 10 years ago and 15 years ago. Everything is still great. The Ono and Yellow Fin Tuna are excellent. Coconut shep were huge and fresh. Drinks are smooth. The potato cake with the Ono was under cooked, but still had flavor

Homemade gravy makes their loco moco's absolutely the best. We ate here 8 years ago and just returned to the island. Fish Hoppers did not disappoint. There is free parking behind the building. Loved it.

It's an amazing Restaurant with really fresh ingredients! One of the best Clam Chowder I had. We also got the Mahi Mahi and Shrimp Trio. Both were amazing. The sunset view definitely adds to the experience. Parking is right behind the restaurant so look for a small alley right before the restaurant on the right.

Nice open ocean view and great food. The prices seem consistent with what you'd expect for the meals, and the food is delicious. They have a gluten free menu for those with allergies. We had the fish tacos, Blackened Hawaiian Shutome(swordfish) & garlic shrimp, and Hawaiian Ono. We had no trouble finding a parking spot, but we ate late lunches both times (parking is uphill, right behind the restaurant; driveway on the right side). Staff are all friendly. All seating offers are great oceanview, even the booths in the back. No flies and it was comfortable despite the afternoon heat outside and open environment.
