McDonald's - Pahoa (Pahoa Village Rd)
About
A Reliable Stop in Pahoa Village
When you are navigating the winding roads of the Puna district, the golden arches standing prominently along Pahoa Village Road offer a familiar sanctuary for travelers and locals alike. This location serves as a central hub for those heading toward the lava fields or returning from a day exploring the Big Island's rugged coastline.
The Pahoa Experience
The interior echoes the standard efficiency of the global chain, but with a distinct island pace. You will hear the rhythmic chatter of local families fueling up for the day and the hum of travelers checking their GPS. The air often carries the faint, salty scent of the nearby Pacific mixed with the unmistakable aroma of hot fries and fresh-brewed coffee. It is the kind of place where you grab a quick Big Mac or a Sausage McMuffin before embarking on the next leg of your Hawaii adventure.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Space can occasionally feel a bit tight during the morning rush, so patience is a virtue here. The layout is designed for high-volume service, meaning the service moves with a swiftness that keeps the line from backing up into the main thoroughfare. Whether you are looking for a consistent meal that tastes exactly how you expect it to, or you simply need a clean, well-lit place to catch your bearings in the heart of Pahoa, this spot delivers the predictability that makes a long road trip feel a little more manageable.

I order a no bacon eggmuffin and I had my first bite and I really it had bacon in it. I don't eat bacon for religious reasons. I threw it away instantly. My husband then ordered another one from kiosk. No bacon, double egg. Guess what I got? One egg, one bacon. My patience ran out. My husband went to talk to them. And then finally fixed it. No sorry, no refunds.

Tastes like McDonald's. Consistent service and food. The bathroom is never open for the public to use. Parking is good.

Asked for a “courtesy cup” of ice with my meal. Lil girl on intercom replied “all sales are final.” Asked the man with blank stare as he printed my receipt at first window “can I please get a small courtesy cup of ice?” “i’ll radio them and let them know.” I thanked him. Drove to the second window, received the meal I payed for, looked at the woman and then asked “can I please have a courtesy cup of ice?” She was holding it next to the window. Why I had to ask three times for a cup of ice is beyond me. You must call it a courtesy cup otherwise they will cut you off with “all sales are final,” interruption. Customer service on par with an ogre or troll, Mcdonalds Pahoa.

It was a weird and unsettling experience. I walked in greeted by towers of digital order banks into an empty, very sterile looking dining area without a condiment, plastic wrapped utensil, napkin or soda machine with cups & such in sight; just a bare counter, and the walk-up counter had a single register with nobody behind it. That was it. I felt like I was in a post apocalyptic McDonald's and was sort of hoping for a robot to come out with my order to solidify my initial viewpoint.

Prices are high, somtimes they get order or sauces wrong, mostly in drive thru, but good customer service, friendly and fast, they need faster service in dining areas, overall its a good indoor dinning experience, clean and quite with free wifi. Bathrooms are clean, . I just think prices are way way too high for the quality of food we get and the amount we get. Prices need to go back down! especially in pahoa hawaii. Mcdonald's in pahoa is 3 to 4 stars for me.

It's very disappointing when you go to eat and you're told the restroom in the establishment is not available to wash your hands. It's even more disappointing when you're told it doesn't work while staff go in and out using it. Not having a restroom available for patrons is absolutely unacceptable. **see McDonald's reply below....I'm sure it's autogenerated because there's no need for additional information when I've written it all in spending my time doing this and they want me to do more work for their negligence closing restrooms to paying patrons. This has been an issue for MONTHS and supposedly McDonald's cares 😂. Please. Spare me the niceties. I did your little report anyway. It would be nice if I never see the restroom closed to paying patrons ever again unless it's literally in need of a plumber or so gross it's literally safer to not use. However, I won't hold my breath waiting.

Nice friendly service. Kiosks only ordering. I like the mobile app for ordering but it takes a few times of ordering to get the hang out it. The app could use a little help. I love Daniel patroling the tables and keeping restaurant clean and friendly. The app seems to be running better. 🏃♀️. Curb side odering is working well. Every one is working hard with a smile. App is now working so there is good progress.

Visiting from out of state so we had to try the deluxe platter and specialty pies. Unfortunately the pies weren't available in the morning (but fried apple ones were? Idk) We wanted to sit down to eat, but we had to order from the kiosk? Like no one that works there is trained and experienced enough to use the register? The food was delicious. Coffee tasted just how it does at every other McDonalds. The fried apple pies really were top tier. 😋 I don't usually eat spam, but I can see why the natives love the deluxe platter. The Brazilian sausage was almost identical to what we get at a fancy Brazilian steakhouse back home. Rice was cooked perfectly and the egg was just what I expected. Soy sauce packet was a nice touch. My lady got a mango smoothie that was really good. If it weren't for registers being down and taro/coconut pies being unavailable, I would give 5 stars.
