Pele's Kitchen
About
A Taste of Pahoa Soul
Stepping into Pele's Kitchen feels like walking into the heartbeat of Pahoa Village. This local haunt captures the unpretentious spirit of the Big Island, serving up hearty portions that define Hawaiian comfort food. You will hear the low hum of local chatter mixed with the sizzle of a flat-top grill, filling the air with the unmistakable scent of savory loco moco gravy and fresh-caught island fish.
Island-Style Fuel
The menu leans heavily into the classics that keep locals coming back for breakfast and lunch. Their signature Loco Moco is a masterclass in indulgenceโa thick, house-made patty topped with eggs cooked exactly how you prefer, smothered in a rich, dark gravy that hits the spot after a morning spent exploring the nearby lava fields. The Portuguese sausage breakfast platter is another staple, perfectly crisp at the edges, offering that salty, spicy kick needed to power through a day of Puna Coast adventures.
The Pahoa Experience
Expect a laid-back, rustic environment where function beats fancy design. The seating is casual, and on busier mornings, you might find yourself rubbing elbows with neighbors or surfers drying off from a session. One thing to keep in mind: the parking lot can get a bit tight when the breakfast rush hits, so patience is a virtue here. It is the kind of spot where you come for the food, stay for the genuine community interaction, and leave feeling like you have finally tapped into the true, quiet rhythm of life on the Hilo side of the island.

Pele's Kitchen is my go-to for brunch whenever I'm in Pahoa. I'm completely obsessed with their mango coconut blintzes! Fair warning though, they sell out often, so get there early if you want them. I learned that the hard way on my last visit. Luckily, everything here is delicious. I ended up getting the mountain apple french toast and a platter of bacon instead, and it was fantastic. The coffee is excellent too, which is a must for any good brunch spot. They had a live musician performing inside, which was a nice touch. I grabbed a seat outside and the outdoor seating area is beautiful โ total jungle vibe that makes the whole experience even better. The service is excellent and friendly, which really adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Can't recommend this place enough. Just remember to arrive early for those blintzes!

Yummy food and great service. Saturday morning had great live music. Staff was happy to recommend places to visit while we were in town. Kalua Pig Benedict with hash browns was very good but their default poached egg isnt runny...let them know if you like them soft/runny). Pancakes came with lots of great syrup options. Lastly the small fruit platter was plenty for two and had some great fresh local fruits.

My son lives on Big Island..my first time visiting one of his favorite places...the waitress seemed new and unsure of how the order sure be written. We manage to navigate through it. It is not delivered as yet and a man appears, stating the bacon was extra...no was part of the order as shown in the menu. He disappeared and reappeared very excitable...then tells me there is no pleasing me. I was so taken back..his attitude tainted my whole meal. My son sat silent, that was no help either. We finished our meal and an observing patron noticed how off everything seemed. Not what I expected..very disappointing.

This is my to go place when I visit pahoa. The food is delicious, decorations are fun and colorful, people watching is fantastic. The wait can be long even if you get a table right away. So enjoy island time. ๐๏ธ I ordered the egg Benedict with pork. My friend had the crepe with raspberries. Both were excellent. They also had a small portion of fresh cut fruits on the side. Delicious. There's free street parking, or free public parking across the street.

This place is such a gem! We stopped by to get some avocados and fresh coconuts from their produce table and the owner absolutely went out of his way to welcome us. Everyone was extremely friendly here and the live music was fantastic. DO NOT miss this gem if youโre ever in Pahoa.

This is the place you would like to go if you want a perfect feel of Big Island, servers were so very courteous, portions were big, decor was so colorful, and you get an idea of how resilient the folks of Puna/Pahoa are. Will come back again. Thanks for sharing a part of Big Island with us. The fruit platter was so good, couldn't have enough of it. We will also come back for more Hawaiian chocolates and hopefully a visit of the farm too.

Wow, we were so happy to have stopped here for breakfast! It was an overall amazing experience. From the crazy colors and paintings on both the inside and outside of the building to the live music to the amazing food, everything was perfect. Somehow one of our order items got missed and the waiter hurriedly got us the plate as soon as possible and took it off our bill. We thought this was excellent customer service. Every plate was amazing, especially the fruit plate which had all sorts of things that we've never even seen before. The live music was very pleasant and low volume so we could still have a nice conversation at the table. Even the coffee was amazing!
