Black Rock Cafe

Amazing waitress! Food was very fast and good, 2 in our party said it was the best fish sandwich they ever had. I had very good Kahlua pork. The Mac salad has potatoes in it also if you like that. Onion rings were delicious. Generous portions. Classic cafe type seating. We would definitely go back.

Today was the first time I walked out of a restaurant in a long time. Understaffing sssms to be a problem here. My fiancé and I were show to a booth after it was cleared. Table top was soaking wet. Not a big thing. We were asked if we’d like coffee. Coffee came. Creamer was in a container that had no spout. When poured it spilled all over. It also coagulated at the top of the coffee. Nonetheless we waited… and waited. We noticed one woman who was seated after us had ordered AND received her food and was eating before our server came back to take our order. Several times she glanced over at us, but must have forgotten us and was too busy with other duties. She even made the rounds of all the tables to warm up their coffee while we still hadn’t ordered. Watching the lady who came in after us enjoying her breakfast while we still hadn’t even had our order taken was finally too much. We got up and went to the front counter and told our server we would like to pay for the coffee (with the coagulated creamer floating at the top) and leave. At which point she said she was coming to us next. Too late. She didn’t charge us for the coffee. We are now sitting at a nice cafe up in Kea’au that was a longer drive but they are cleaner, better prices, and actually have decent service. I used to go to Black Rock frequently and made allowances for the less than good service as they were only option for breakfast in Pahoa, but no more. I do not expect to come back until I hear things have improved.

Ok so there isn't a lot of options available as you go south l....but I would stop here anyway! Prices were excellent, food was delicious! We will certainly be back

Great food however Extremely long wait times for food... 20 minutes for them to take our order as a party of two and took over an hour... Need to hire more kitchen and serving staff... Did not acknowledge or come and follow up with us about it either

OMG!! The burgers and onion rings are sooo good here!! We stopped in because we seen a review. We definitely were not disappointed!!! We returned a few days later and enjoyed our meals again before we left the area. Highly recommend stopping in for lunch or dinner. The breakfast looked amazing, I seen the biggest pancake being served, however we didn't try breakfast we were there for lunch at 11am and just seen some of the breakfasts that others gad ordered.

Such a great little cafe! Excellent customer service everyone was so sweet, kind and helpful. The food was so delicious we had to go back a second time. I loved the Ono fish sandwich 😋 It was a nice atmosphere just a little bit dark in the back, that's the only reason why I gave it four stars but overall it was five stars 🤩
