Tropics Ale House (69-1022 Keana Pl)
About
Cold Pints and Kona Sunsets
Located right in the heart of Waikoloa Village, Tropics Ale House serves as a dependable pitstop for those needing a break from the Big Island heat. The interior leans into an open-air industrial aesthetic, where the rhythmic clinking of glasses competes with the local sports broadcast echoing off the rafters. It is a place built for residents and visitors alike who prefer a casual, no-fuss approach to dinner.
The Brews and Bites
The draft list focuses heavily on Hawaiian craft breweries, providing a rotating selection that spans from crisp, citrusy IPAs to dark, malty stouts. The menu is anchored by classic pub comfort foods. The fish and chips, prepared with locally caught catch, provide that essential crunch, while the gourmet burger lineup keeps the crowd coming back after a long day at the nearby Kohala Coast beaches.
What to Expect
While the atmosphere remains high-energy, it is worth noting that the acoustics can get quite lively during peak hours, especially when a game is on. Parking in the surrounding plaza area can sometimes be a puzzle, but once you snag a spot, the transition to a chilled glass and a basket of hot appetizers happens quickly. The staff here keeps the service moving at a brisk pace, making it an ideal spot for groups who don’t want to spend their whole evening waiting for a table. Whether you are craving a late-night bite after a snorkel trip or a midday craft beer, this Waikoloa mainstay hits the mark.

Sweetie was just that, super nice, great service and the poke nachos were perfect. Along with a pineapple high noon was exactly what I needed. Will definitely be back. A beautiful introduction to Kona. Mahalo 🫶🏼

Awesome little gem to find! Few minute walk from the Hilton and got ice cold beers half the price it cost at the hotel. Burger and pizza was delicious, best pizza I have found on the island so far! Staff were friendly and attentive, great experience all around. Will definitely go back next time I’m here.

We love Tropics. The staff is amazing, drinks are exceptional and the food is excellent! Best Mai Tai and Kalua Pork Nachos! Lots of options for beers, drinks and food. Crazy fun vibe when a sporting event is playing on the many TVs. We visit Tropics Ale House often on our Big Island vacations.

One of the more fair priced areas in the area. Food was upscale bar food, decent drink selection although the drinks seemed a little light. Service was fantastic, but definitely feels like just a bar. Would eat here again though.

I got take out. The bar tender was super sweet. The food was not good. The salsa for our nachos was canned tomatoes. Nothing else. Just canned tomatoes. The nachos were dried plain chips with a cup of spicy velveta and pulled pork. The brussel sprouts were also not great. For a handful of reasons. Bad food. Just for reference I had touched the veggies yet. That’s how they came…
