Island Flavors Meet Italian Tradition

At Nui Italian, located right in the heart of the Waikoloa Beach Resort, the air is thick with the scent of wood-fired dough and simmering marinara. This is the spot where Kona coast relaxation meets a rustic, high-energy dining room. If you are looking for an upscale yet accessible dinner after a day at the nearby beaches, the open-air layout provides a breezy, casual elegance perfect for families and couples alike.

The Kitchen’s Signature Touch

Executive Chef and the culinary team prioritize fresh ingredients, turning out hand-tossed pizzas with charred, blistered crusts that satisfy that specific craving for smoky, artisan dough. The menu leans heavily into coastal Italian staples, with the house-made pappardelle often stealing the show. You will notice the kitchen maintains a brisk, rhythmic clatter that bounces off the contemporary decor, adding a lively soundtrack to your meal.

Practical Observations

While the service is attentive, be mindful that the popularity of the Waikoloa shopping hub means the parking lots can get quite crowded around sunset. It is a good idea to arrive a few minutes early to secure a spot before your reservation. The restaurant’s lighting dims beautifully as the sun dips below the horizon, shifting the room into a warm, amber-hued space that feels distinctly tropical despite the Italian influence. Whether you are splitting a bottle of Chianti or digging into a plate of fresh seafood linguine, the experience is built around the simple, robust flavors that define the local Big Island dining scene.

Pizza overlooking the ocean. While the food is just so-so, the view is lovely and the staff are friendly. We made an early reservation for four, plus a little one and were seated in their patio. The manicured lawn made for a great space to let the little roll around while we enjoyed our meal. We ordered two pizzas for the table to share - one neopolitan style and the other roman style to compare the crusts. The Roman style is like a focaccia, flatbread, while the neopalitan pizza is more traditional. The roman pizza we ordered came with caramelized onions, pear and arugula toppings, which made it feel like a healthier option. While I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here, it was still a pleasant experience and had fantastic sunset views of the resort and ocean.

A very enjoyable, relaxed environment on the Hilton Waikoloa Village resort. A bit pricey, but tasty “foody” Italian meals can be enjoyed here. No reservation needed, but it gets busy around sunset time.

The Vibe: The location is the highlight here. It offers a great view for sunset, making it a beautiful spot to end the day. Service: It gets very crowded, so the staff was busy, but they managed the flow well enough given the volume. The Food: Appetizer (Winner): We tried the Octopus appetizer, and honestly, it was the best part of the meal. For me, the appetizer was better than the main dish. Main: We ordered the Chicken Pesto Pizza. It was decent, but didn't quite live up to the quality of the starter. Crucial Tip: Reserve on OpenTable! Do not try to just walk in. This place fills up fast for the sunset hours, and having a reservation saves you a lot of stress. Verdict: A solid spot for dinner on the property. Come for the sunset and the appetizers, just make sure you book ahead.

We had a very disappointing experience. We were still eating when the waitress brought us the bill without us asking. She said we could continue, but different staff kept coming back to ask if we were finishing. We were not even asked whether we wanted dessert or needed more time. On top of that, there were flies inside the restaurant all night, even though we were seated indoors. Overall, the experience felt rushed and uncomfortable.

We were out on a walk and wandered through the Hilton on our way back (we were staying at a nearby condo) when we stumbled upon Nui Italian. It smelled amazing and looked worth a stop, so we popped in and ordered salads and a pizza for an early dinner—late for us, considering we’re still on East Coast time… yum! The salads were fresh, and the service was spot-on. The pizza? Pretty good! Not the “OMG best pizza ever,” but let’s be honest—you’re in Hawaii. You’re not there to hunt down world-class pizza. You’re there for the Pacific Ocean and everything it has to offer. That said, you’ve gotta love these little spots that fill your belly in between all the adventuring.

I am honestly shocked at how many negative reviews Nui received - it honestly made me a bit nervous to try, however when you fly in late and it's one of your only options unless you want to leave the resort complex, you opt for convenience. My husband and I both ordered pizzas, I ordered a traditional Neo and my husband a Roman style - we were both blown away! The crust was outstanding - chewy and delicious and the sauce combined with the toppings was absolutely delicious. I also enjoyed a Limoncello martini (or two) and those were also outstanding. Our server, Manuel, was kind, courteous, and friendly. If you're staying at the Hilton "complex" I highly recommend you give it a try - we loved it!

We did not make a reservation and only hat and short wait about 5 min for a table for 2 ar 730pm. Relaxing upscale but casual island dining. Great wine selection and pasta portion was enough to have leftovers.

Hands down the best Margherita Pizza I’ve ever had. The staff were so polite and helpful. The price seems high but compared to anywhere nearby the price is actually fairly cheap! My only complaint is the booths specifically seem extremely close together. We were seated next to a very loud family who jumped into multiple conversations my group was having making it feel like we were at a food court with no privacy. I know this is not the restaurants fault but maybe they would have felt less compelled to join in our conversation if they were further away.

We are staying on property and there is only 1 option for room service from 5-9pm, Nui. But gosh is it delicious! We ordered the Margherita pizza and the spaghetti and meatballs and they were both spectacular! Those meatballs were so juicy and flavorful! The pasta is prepared in a way that makes it drier than what I am used to, but the delicious sauce and meatballs made up for it! My only complaint about the pizza is that I would love more basil, but that is just me. We also got the risotto and sadly we cannot recommend it. It was hard as a rock by the time it arrived and the flavor of Parmesan completely overpowered the dish. We also had tiramisu for dessert and wow was that good! It came in this cute plastic cup and it really hit the spot! The entire meal was delicious! We will eat there during our stay!

Stopped in here with my family and friends after a long of touring in and around the island, and we had a great time. The food was fresh, the portions were ample, and the service we received from our waiter was so welcoming. I’m not from the area, but I’ll probably be stopping here again next time I’m in town. The ambience is amazing in the night, nice atmosphere and there is outside patio seating which looks fabulous with warmer weather.
