Mauka Bar & Grill
About
A Slice of Local Life in Waikoloa Village
Stepping into Mauka Bar & Grill offers a refreshing break from the high-end resort scene along the Kohala Coast. Tucked away within the residential heart of Waikoloa, this spot is where the actual residents of the Big Island congregate. The atmosphere is unpretentious and open-air, defined by the clatter of silverware against plates and the steady hum of island-style conversation.
Island Comforts and Casual Pints
The kitchen leans into hearty, comfort-driven Hawaiian pub food. Locals swear by the furikake-crusted fish and the loaded plates of kalua pork that reflect the culinary heritage of the islands. The bar is equally focused, keeping local craft brews on rotation and serving up stiff drinks that cut through the tropical humidity. Whether you are coming in after a round of golf or just looking for a place to watch a game, the environment is purposefully laid back.
Observations for the Visitor
Keep in mind that this isn't a white-tablecloth establishment; the decor is functional and the service moves at an island pace. Parking can occasionally get a bit snug during the evening rush when the post-work crowd arrives, so you might need to circle the lot once or twice. It is a genuine neighborhood haunt that values personality over polish, making it the perfect landing spot for travelers who want to see how the Waikoloa community really eats and drinks.

Fantastic place to go after your morning round of golf. Great views, good food and wonderful service. We’ve been here a few times after playing golf both morning and afternoon and have never been disappointed.

We had a fabulous experience here last night; our last night at Waikoloa. To begin, Chris Fugiwara, the General Manager, welcomed us quickly to our beautiful table which was an antique mango tree slab that sat six. Beautiful. The service was spectacular. The bread was to die for. Shrimp Cocktail and Crab Bisque as starters. Yum. And the lamb chops for dinner were absolutely the BEST I have ever had. I am serious when I say this. So so good. Brandon our waiter was excellent. Everything about this place is five stars in my book. Go. Sit outside. And enjoy!

Stylish spot with elevated steakhouse vibes near the golf course. Lots of the menu items were pretty darn good. Some highlights include the seared ahi starter, which came bathing in a delicious creamy sauce. The sauce was novel and a nice spin on an already delicious dish. The ono was also done nicely. I have to dock them a little on their steak. With steakhouse pricing, they weren’t able to produce a solid steakhouse crust on the ribeye. Without a crust, the cut ended up a little floppy and watery. The desserts were also a little off. The sauce on the passion fruit cheesesteak was amazing, but the texture of the cheesecake itself wasn’t great. Their mint ice cream was also a little freezer burned. Overall you can have a good time here, but I think the pricing puts the restaurant into the elite league, and I don’t think they’re quite ready to play there.

Tried Mauka Bar & Grill for breakfast one of our mornings — such a nice spot! Cozy vibes, friendly staff, and seriously good food. We went for the Loco Moco, Lox & Bagel, and the Mauka Makai Benedict — all super tasty. Definitely a place I’d come back to for a slow, easy morning. 🌺☕🍳 #BigIsland #Hawaii2025 #USA2025

Mauka Bar and Grill – 10 Stars!! Visited 3 times in July 2025 We really lucked out finding this place for breakfast instead of going to our resort breakfast buffet. Not only was it significantly less expensive, but there were hardly any people there when we arrived. We got there before the golfers finish their rounds 😁 The food was superb. Everything came out fresh and delicious. The view was SUPERB, overlooking the lush golf course and mountains in the distance. And the service was excellent, friendly, attentive, and relaxed in the best way. Honestly, I’d have breakfast here every day if I could. It was one of those unexpectedly great finds that ended up being a highlight of the trip. Highly recommend!

Check um out guys!! One of the best. Makua bar and grill did not disappoint. Unbelievable experience. Besides the live music they got playing the food was unbelievable, the ambiance and setting was amazing, and the service was top tier. Tyler got us a reservation, he seated us, and took care of us the whole time. Never skip a beat. Always checking. We even talked story. He kept us entertained. Thanks again my bradda. No need beach front when you still got an amazing view of the sunset.
