About
A Taste of Mexico in the Heart of Waikoloa
When the craving for street-style tacos hits while you are exploring the Big Island, Los Tres Mex offers a grounded, no-frills escape from the typical resort dining scene. Located right in the center of Waikoloa Village, this spot serves as a reliable fuel stop for locals and visitors returning from the Kohala Coast beaches.
Salsa, Spice, and Casual Bites
The menu leans into authentic staples, with the al pastor tacos and hearty carne asada burritos standing out as clear fan favorites. You will notice the scent of grilled onions and warm corn tortillas the moment you step up to the window. The kitchen doesn't overcomplicate things; they focus on getting the heat level right and ensuring the cilantro is crisp. Expect a straightforward ordering process where the main goal is speed and flavor.
The Island Pace
This isn't a place for white-tablecloth service, but rather a vibrant, high-energy counter-service stop. It is the kind of environment where you might hear the rhythmic chopping of fresh pineapple or the sizzle of meat on a flat-top grill. A small observation for those visiting during peak lunch hours: parking can be a bit of a scramble in the shared plaza lot, so plan to exercise a little patience or grab your food to-go for a sunset picnic at the nearby beaches. Whether you are a resident of the Waikoloa community or just passing through, it is a practical, flavorful choice for a quick Mexican meal.

We have been coming here for YEARS and the food has always remained consistent and delicious. It's a family business, and the owners and their kids always make you feel like family. We're so lucky to have them in Waikoloa Village.

This place has been in my rotation when I'm back home for ages and for good reason. Ever since they had a location whether in waikoloa or Waimea it's been nothing but greatness! My personal favorites still are the tres combo, burrito grande or any of the quesadillas. All of them hit like a bus and continue to be among the best on the rock can get. Food comes out super fast and how this place remains slept on I'll never know...

Tres Mex is our go-to spot whenever we’re not wanting to cook and craving Mexican food. We usually cook Mexican at home a couple times a week, so we’re pretty picky, but Tres Mex never disappoints. It’s the perfect alternative when we don’t feel like cooking. The food is consistently delicious, the staff is super friendly, and we especially love their shredded beef tacos and shrimp ceviche.

Absolutely amazing experience! We ordered the chimichanga, and everything about it was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The guacamole tasted perfectly fresh, the chimichanga itself was delicious and packed with fresh ingredients, and the salsa was just so good—it tied everything together beautifully. Every bite felt authentic and satisfying. Easily the yummiest food we’ve had in Waikoloa, Hawai’i. Definitely a 5 out of 5 stars!”

Great Mexican food for take away. We are vegetarian and the burrito was great - massive portions easily can be shared. Would definitely come back.

So, so good and worth the wait. It’s in a very plain strip mall food court situation, but don’t let that throw you. It’s delicious and the portions are BIG. You can taste the love in every bite. We had the carne asada fries and the burrito grande. Both were just fantastic. We finished them even though we weren’t that hungry. It was just that good.

We so very much missed them when they were closed. Grab a burrito and head to the ocean! You'll have a beach side restaurant as the result. There really is no place close on the island. We still go to other places when too far away, but nobody does Mexican food as well as them. This is a little keyosk of a place. They have a few tables, but take out is better . Don't be deterred by their small size It's worth every bite. Great food! UPDATE: I have lowered my rating because somehow it got hugely expensive! Maybe we need to reduce the reviews. I went there and got one burrito and chips (no drink) and it came to $32 and change. This place is a literal hole in the wall at a food court. I think they need to be careful about how much people will pay for take out Mexican food. It was still good, but harder to swallow.

Best Mexican Food on the Big island. No other place does it right like this place does. The rice is nit just mushy sushi grain rice. They actually do it right and bake and split the graim to become fluffy. Carnitas is not wet either soaking and just tossed on. They put on the grill and crisp the edges of the meat. Like i said, if you want to find someplace close to Mexi - Cali Mexican food. Go to this place! No other like Mexican food here like Los Tres Mex and i had them all to find the best one on this island. Thank you Los Tres Mex for making sure the time and dedication to your food is superb. Mahalo nui loa (In pic i open taco to show how nice and crispy the carnitas are. Perfection this way!)

First I'll say, it's worth coming here. So come here! Second, I dont like giving 5 stars unless the food is so amazing, perfectly seasoned, with no complaints at all. But I have to say this place deserves it. I also have to say we have eaten out quite a bit on this island and it has been hard finding great food without spending a fortune! We had.... Chicken flautas (great) 3 combo plate- taco, enchiladas (great) Wet burrito grande Wet bean and cheese burrito Quesadilla Beef taco (get this!) All the food items were really good. Like really good. The beans and rice were great too. I didnt love love the rice, it was good, my kids really loved it tho. The beans had great flavor. All the burritos were also great, some had green sauce and some red. I preferred the green but the red is good. The chicken is good but the carna asada and beef are way better. The taco (crispy) was so perfect. I also had perfect shrimp tacos inexact and perfect fish tacos in japan. These tacos are right next to those as perfect. Get the tacos! So you cannot go wrong here for food and I'd like to also say how awesome it was to find this place and finish our sons birthday with some great mexican food (over more Hawaiian food that is just ok). (....I will also say, I'm super dad the party of 4 who ordered after us got their food before us..... not cool) but ill be back! Reasonably priced! Also, some idiot left a review that said there are no chairs, but take your food to the beach. He's an idiot because there are plenty of tables and chairs and there is seating spots outside. Plus all the food is take away anyway.
