Halii Kai
About
Savoring the Pacific at Halii Kai
Positioned along the rugged lava rock coastline of the Big Island, Halii Kai offers a dining experience defined by the constant, rhythmic crash of Pacific waves. As you sit at the open-air ocean club, the salt-tinged breeze mixes with the smell of freshly seared island catch, grounding you firmly in the Waikoloa Resort landscape. This is the spot for those who prefer their cocktails with an unobstructed view of the horizon rather than the noise of a crowded tourist strip.
Island Living on the Kohala Coast
The culinary focus here leans heavily into the bounty of Hawaii’s tropical climate. Expect a menu that prioritizes local sourcing, featuring fresh ahi poke, macadamia-crusted white fish, and seasonal fruit preparations that taste like they were plucked from the tree an hour prior. The pace is intentionally languid—this is not a place for a quick bite; it is a destination for watching the sunset paint the sky in shades of bruised purple and gold.
A Local Perspective
While the scenery is world-class, be prepared for a bit of a trek from the main resort hubs; the winding pathways through the luxury community mean you will want to take your time navigating the grounds. The atmosphere remains refined yet approachable, making it a favorite for couples looking to escape the bustle of the larger hotels nearby. If you are planning a visit, time your arrival about forty-five minutes before sundown to secure a chair near the edge of the property where the view remains entirely unencumbered by glass or partitions.

Great experience start to finish. Clear instructions and details were emailed about 5 days prior to arrival. Check in was seamless and staff members were very friendly and helpful. Unit 18F (3 bd/3 bath) was spacious, quiet, well stocked and very clean. Pic is view from the lanai off of the dining area. The pool was nice after a long days of excursions, and the views from the pool were fabulous! Grounds are beautiful and meticulously maintained. Would visit again and would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Great place to vacation. The condo was very nice. Unfortunately we had no AC working the entire 9 days even after notifying the office. The office business hours of 10 am - 6 pm were a struggle. The pool closing at 7 pm was another unexpected limit for a vacation with no prior notification of these limits.

This is an amazing place. I absolutely would like to return someday. The value for the money renting a condo versus a resort hotel room is much better. This property is highly recommended.

Great location and views. Unit itself was a bit tired with stained carpet, master tv did not work, dirty shower glass, shower door that was off the track, master curtains were 2 feet too narrow (didn't cover window which was strange). We arrived at 6:30 pm to find out nobody was there to check in. The codes were sent to spam which I understand was my problem for not finding but nobody answered the front desk number provided to let us in (no after hour emergency contact). 6:30pm to me is pretty reasonable to expect somebody to be available. Eventually I got a hold of somebody from the reservation office to help us, but it was really dark and kind of kicked off the vacation in a bad way. Lastly, the description said beach towels were provided which is not true. Pool towels could not be removed and there were no beach towels in unit. So for the good stuff, location was amazing and was the view. The pool and club were also amazing and the kids loved it. The people we met working at the resort were all very nice. There are a lot of options in area of the island so I might look at some other options next time.

Such a beautiful location. The ocean club is beyond compare. The lagoon style pool at the ocean‘s edge is beautiful. The staff at the ocean clever excellent. We loved working out in the mornings at the Hale. We were surprised about the calmness. The bar is also really great especially in the evening hours as you watch the sunset. We were treated to live music tonight that was spectacular!

We come to Halii Kai every year. The pool area is stunning and not a pretentious feel. Best place on the island to see whales. Food is excellent. Condos have a great layout and grounds are very well taken care of.

We stayed at Halii Kai rental unit 12A before Christmas and it was heaven on earth. The grounds welcomed us like a warm hug as we arrived. Extremely welcoming and the true spirit of Aloha, as everything was well appointed and manicured. The condo itself was amazing. I stay at Ritz Carlton and they have nothing on this unit. The view was spectacular and allowed us to whale watch from the patio. The owner had great binoculars in the unit, and it was fantastic. The well appointed kitchen saved us so much money, the beds were comfortable, and the AC was frigid. Everything, no everything, you could ever want or need was there. From snorkel gear, to coolers for the beach, to beach towels-chairs- umbrellas and more, we wanted for nothing. The price we paid was so worth it that I did not want to post a review, but the owners deserve it. I booked through kbm and not the other popular travel site, and am glad I did. It was a stellar experience that I would not trade for anything. The unit is a 1 minute walk from the pool, and the restaurant was amazing too.

We stayed there for 6 days during the severe storm in March, and despite the wind and rain, had a very comfortable stay. The property is located close enough to the Kona to run in to town, and there is plenty of shopping and restaurants close by if we didn’t want to drive. The condo was clean, well stocked and excellent internet and tv’s. I can see why the Costco agent suggested this property, the price was excellent for our needs and would easily stay here again the next time we come to this island

The room was big enough for a group of 5 people and equipped with all the kitchen stuff needed for us to prepare quick meals after long days. Ocean Club was nice. I loved the gym right in front of the ocean, which made me feel like …

My family spent 2 weeks here. Great area to walk and explore. Lots to do in the area. Great swimming all around be at the pool or beaches near by. Would recommend this place. Saw whales and dolphins almost every morning while having coffee on the balcony. Was perfect.
