Charley's Thai Cuisine
About
Authentic Thai Spice in the Heart of Waikoloa
When the craving for heat hits while exploring the Big Island’s Kohala Coast, Charley's Thai Cuisine offers a reliable escape from the typical resort fare. Located conveniently within the Waikoloa Village Center, this spot serves as a local hub for those seeking bold, punchy flavors in a casual, no-frills setting.
What to Expect on Your Plate
The menu leans heavily into traditional Southeast Asian staples. The Green Curry stands out for its balanced heat and fresh bamboo shoots, while their Pad Thai provides that essential sweet-and-sour profile, tossed with a generous amount of crushed peanuts. If you prefer a bit of a kick, ask for your spice level to be adjusted; the kitchen is quick to accommodate requests for extra bird's eye chili. The aromatics of lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves greet you the moment you walk through the door, cutting through the warm, tropical humidity outside.
The Local Atmosphere
The interior is straightforward and functional, designed for locals grabbing a quick lunch or families looking for an easy dinner after a day at the beach. You might notice it gets quite lively during the dinner rush, with the clatter of wok-searing creating a frantic, energetic soundtrack to your meal. Parking in the plaza can occasionally become a game of musical chairs during peak weekend hours, so factor in a few extra minutes to find a spot. It’s the kind of place where service is efficient rather than performative, making it an ideal choice for a satisfying meal without the long-winded hospitality found at the nearby luxury resorts.

Delicious food but be sure to check your food for HAIR. We brought this issue with our server and she totally ignored this icky disgusting problem. No one in the staff apologized. We still left her a 15% tip, would have given her 20% or more if she at least acknowledged the unappetizing extra side of follicle in our order.

Was quite surprised with the low rating, however reading the reviews made us try it. I’d give them a 10 if that was possible. The food was delicious. I had the chicken pad Thai and my husband had the pork fried rice. We ordered the spring rolls as an appetizer.

First off, just remember your not in Thailand! With that being said……. I had a Thai friend with me, so I will try to give very honest and accurate review! The service here was excellent! The staff was very nice and helpful! The food came out fast, and the food was very fresh! That being said, if you are looking for authentic Thai food, go to Thailand! You are in Hawaii!!!!!!! It’s close enough! The Eggrolls were very good! I had fried rice with beef, I ordered medium spicy and there was no heat at all! 🤷♂️🤷♂️ My Thai buddy had stirfry vegetables and the temperature on it was very good very spicy, lots of flavor and pretty close to authentic! That being said, it would have been much better with chips and salsa, and a burrito! 🤣🤣JK!! I would not make this a destination stop, but if I where in the area, I would definitely eat here again! Remember, lighten up, hang loose you’re in Hawaii!! 🤙🤙🤙🤙

Stopped in one night for dinner. Friendly efficient service. They had two types of ice cold Thai beer. We ordered tofu Pad Thai and Green curry. The soup I had was in cup size which was perfect. The food was absolutely amazing. Ingredients were fresh, flavorful and delicious.! Spice levels are serious so consider ordering one notch down if you don't care for overkill.

Wow! Fantastic food, with minimal wait and reasonably priced 😘 After getting tired of spending 200$+ on most meals for 4 during our week long Hawaii trip, we stumbled upon this small corner restaurant for a dinner. The food was outstanding and the service was friendly and efficient. The Spicy Chicken stir fry and Pad Thai with shrimp was outstanding. The spring rolls, Panang curry and Green curry were superb with the jasmine and sticky rice. And all for under 80$ - really worth it.

The food was pretty good. Not as authentic as i wouldve liked but it was better than another place i tried in Hawaii. I ordered the #6 lunch special, grilled rib, papaya salad, and sticky rice, beef salad, Tom Yum Gai. They definitely missing herbs. The soup had raw tomatoes and celery in it which i thought was weird. The flavors were decent but they used oil to cook the beef instead of broiling the beef and then slicing it. This doesnt seem like a big deal but the oil coats your tongue and masks all the flavor. The food was also lacking lime and lemongrass was nonexistent. With that being said it is a decent place for Thai food considering your options. Give it a try

I have been to Charlies 4 times during my vacations to Kona. The place is very clean and the food is terrific. We had coconut shrimp and eggrolls for appetizer, which were huge. Then Pad Thai and Fried Rice. Very good all around. Plus this is a coke place, not pepsi, extra bonus there. Very easy to get in an out, go into the Queens Market, drive around the back and the entrance is midway between the food court and the supermarket. Plentiful parking under some beautifully trimmed trees to keep the heat away.

My dad enjoyed his pad Thai and my mum enjoyed her short rib but not the papaya salad. I I ordered the Thai fried rice with chicken wings. I was a bit disappointed as I was expecting the fried rice to be good. I am Asian thus I know what a good fried rice is the chicken wings was just a Cutlet and it is not well seasoned. To be fair we only ordred from their lunch express menu so I am.just basing my review on what I have ordered. The restaurant is clean and a bit spacious. The lady who took our order is also attentive and very efficient, (we went there at 11:00 they just opened and nobody was there) that's why our order was quick.
