Reel Aloha Poke And Fish Co.
About
Freshness from the Kona Coast
At Reel Aloha Poke and Fish Co., the focus is singular: bringing the bounty of the Pacific directly to your bowl. Located in the heart of Kealakekua, this spot is a departure from processed, pre-packaged fare. You can smell the brine of the ocean the moment you walk in, paired with the crisp, clean scent of fresh ginger and Hawaiian chili pepper. The staff works with local fishermen, meaning the ahi on your plate was likely swimming in Big Island waters mere hours before service.
The Poke Experience
Forget the overly complicated toppings found at mainland chains. Here, the fish is the star. The signature poke bowls lean into traditional Hawaiian flavors—heavy on the shoyu, sweet onion, and a perfect, toasted crunch of kukui nut (inamona). If you are looking for a quick lunch, the line can move fast, but be prepared for a brief wait during the mid-day rush. It is a no-frills, counter-service environment, making it perfect for locals grabbing a post-surf meal or visitors stocking up before a drive down toward the cliffs.
Why Kealakekua Locals Visit
The vibe is quintessentially Big Island: laid-back, unpretentious, and deeply connected to the land. You will often find people sitting on the nearby benches, enjoying their bowls while looking out toward the horizon. It is not a place for white-tablecloth service; it is a place for authentic, salt-of-the-earth food. Whether you are a fan of spicy ahi or prefer a more mild, soy-based marinade, the texture of the sashimi-grade fish remains consistent. Bring a hearty appetite and a bit of patience if you arrive during the peak lunch hour, as the popularity of this local staple often means a small queue forms on the sidewalk.

I ordered a poke bowl. The portion size is very generous, I was not able to finish it by myself. I thought that poke itself was way too salty (I had sesame mix). But the fern salad was fantastic!! I also wish they offered more than one side per bowl, maybe smaller amount but then you could try more things. They had some very interesting seaweeds, but I had to buy the whole tub of it to try when all I wanted was a taste.

my fiancé and i loved this place, the sesame one especially was SO nicely marinated! ~ id say this was our fav poke place, looking forward to coming again! (And yes we’ve tried foodland, which was overrated in our opinion, not well marinated) we got the sesame, california dreamin, with sides (spicy crab salad and pickled ogo) Feb (Friday afternoon)

We enjoyed this eatery so much that we kept coming back for more! I really appreciated that they were able to tell me which items were gluten free and dairy free for me. My partner loved the Ahi Katsu (not gluten free, but was reportedly delicious!). The staff was so helpful and friendly. Highly recommend stopping in to grab a poke bowl or some katsu! 🐟

The menu is simple, and the poke varieties are plentiful. We weren’t sure how things worked, and the woman behind the counter was so nice and accommodating to all our questions. There were six different poke displayed in the glass case all ‘pre-made’ with their sauces, spices and other ingredients. All but one were ahi-based (one was salmon), and three of the ahi were on the spicy side. We picked 4 different poke ‘flavors’ (a two poke plate, a one poke bowl, and a 1/4 lb of just poke). All were so good and fresh and full of flavor — although the two spicy ones had a similar ‘profile’. For our sides, we had the fermented ferns (unique and delicious), the Mac salad (really good and different than similar salads on the island), and seaweed salad (very solid). There was a lot of rice especially for the 2 poke plate. If we went back, we’d probably just get 2 bowls and supplement with a weighed portion of just poke — because it was just so good and we didn’t want to fill up too much on rice!!! A great place for fast, friendly, and fresh poke. Highly recommend.

We went by today to grab food, and we left very happy. We enjoyed the good food as the Sun set - what a view! The service person is SO helpful, walking customers through different items and combos. She gave samples as requested, making sure everyone in our party was well prepared. The California Dreaming Poke is out of this world. The plate is a lot of food - be prepared.

This place was awesome. We went in on a weekday afternoon and had the place to ourselves. The poké was as good as it gets and my wife got the Ahi Katsu which was delicious and served as a plate lunch. I had to track down some One-Ton chips so I can make my own poké nachos at home. Worth the drive from Kailua or anywhere really to get poké here.

We were on our way to Captain Cook to get pork chops, which I’ll put in another review, but the restaurant was closed. We were hungry and we saw this poke restaurant and decided to stop in. We were not disappointed! The service was friendly, the food was fresh, the seasoning was perfection. I always feel like some of the best foods that we have are in the least places that we would expect, and if you are in the area, I recommend that you take a moment, to stop by this mom and pop poke shop and you will not be disappointed

My husband and I had a fantastic time here. The lady taking our order was very attentive and checked the ingredients for soy (my husband is allergic). The food was AMAZING! Best poke bowl I've ever had. I got the nachos with the spicy kine fish, and I already want to come back for more. EDIT: I came back AGAIN during my vacation and got the poke plate. 10/10 and the server is so nice
