Rebel Kitchen
About
A Culinary Shift in Kona Coffee Country
Stepping into Rebel Kitchen, you immediately sense a departure from the typical resort-style dining found elsewhere along the Big Island. Located right in the heart of Kealakekua, this spot ditches white tablecloths for a high-energy, eclectic environment that feels like a neighborhood secret. The air is thick with the savory, charred aroma of local ingredients hitting a scorching grill, accompanied by an upbeat soundtrack that keeps the pace lively.
The Rebel Approach to Island Comfort
This isn't your standard plate lunch joint. The kitchen thrives on playing with global influences, often rotating their menu to highlight what is freshest from surrounding Kona farms. If you happen to visit when their signature spicy pork or creative ahi preparations are on the board, grab them fast—they tend to vanish before the dinner rush hits its peak. The chefs favor bold, punchy seasonings that reflect the rugged spirit of the South Kona coast.
What to Expect When You Visit
The space is unpretentious and often buzzing with conversation, which makes it perfect for locals and travelers looking to trade tourist traps for authentic, messy-good food. Keep in mind that the parking lot in this specific pocket of Kealakekua can get a bit tight during peak hours, so a little patience while maneuvering your vehicle is part of the initiation. It’s loud, it’s fast, and it’s unapologetically focused on flavor over frills. Whether you are refueling after a snorkeling trip at nearby Captain Cook or just passing through the uplands, Rebel Kitchen provides a grounded, soulful meal that sticks with you long after the last bite.

Had a great time. No waiting since we were just ahead of the lunch rush. Great food and wonderful service. Fun decor. Park up off the main street and walk. Easier and safer than street parking on the busy road.

Ordered the burger with Pepperoni fries, and Fish sandwich and slaw. Flavor!! Quality ingredients!! This place does NOT disappoint. Only problem you will have is picking one thing, because you will want to try everything 😁

I don’t usually post reviews, good or bad, but I use them all the time to decide on where to eat, to buy a certain product, etc. Shame on me. Not this time. We decided to eat at Rebel Kitchen bc of reviews. I have to chime in. These burgers were A-MAZIIIIING!!! And Nicole was wonderful. Attentive and made great suggestions. My husband even bought a hot sauce and he’s fairly picky about his hot sauces. We have another week on the island. We may just have to go back!!

I'm tore between two different ways to describe this place, so I'll use both. First, it's like your best friend is a top rated chef and he invites you over for dinner. Great food and a casual atmosphere. Second, it's like Anthony Bourdain, Gordon Ramsey or any other top chef decided that money wasn't a priority. That the important thing in life is to put the best good that you can in front of people for the pleasure of watching them enjoy it. Plus doing it all in the smallest venue possible to add a personal feel to the meal. Everything was spot on, the food was probably the best meal I had on the big island. I'm staying at a "4 star" hotel and this food makes theirs look and taste like garbage. My next time on big island this will be my go to dinner spot. If you don't try it then your missing out. It a small place so if you pick the wrong time of day you might have to wait a while. Id suggest an early dinner or late lunch. As they say on the islands, the grinds broke da mouth bra.

Da Kine and Da Shroom burgers in this small kitchen and bar decorated with amazing art is just what we needed to close out the trip. Top quality ingredients. How a burger ought to be made. Delicious and cold beer. Pepperoni garlic fries were a hit as well. Do not miss the sauces. The ketchup, mustard, and hot sauce aint yohr grandpappys condiments. These have character, distinct flavors, and will rock your socks off. I will be buying some to be shopped to Ohio. Best ketchup ive ever had.
