About
A Time Capsule Along the Kona Coast
Stepping into Discovery Antiques in Kealakekua feels less like shopping and more like wandering through a private collection of Hawaii’s past. Located deep in the heart of the Kona coffee belt, this shop offers a sharp departure from the polished tourist boutiques found closer to the shoreline. The air inside is thick with the scent of aged koa wood and sun-bleached documents, a sensory reminder of the plantation era that shaped this region.
What You’ll Find Behind the Threshold
The inventory here rotates with the unpredictable rhythm of estate finds. You are just as likely to spot a rare, vintage Hawaiian postcard from the early 1900s as you are a hand-carved poi pounder tucked away on a dusty shelf. Collectors frequent the space for the authentic militaria and retro island décor that define the aesthetic of Big Island history. It is a tactile, messy, and rewarding experience for those who prefer rummaging through history over browsing mass-produced souvenirs.
Notes for the Curious Explorer
Finding this spot requires a sharp eye, as the shopfront tends to blend into the sleepy, historic architecture of the Kealakekua hillside. The aisles are admittedly tight—you will find yourself turning sideways to avoid brushing against fragile ceramics or stacks of old records—but that is part of the charm. If you find yourself in the area during the weekday, take your time. There is no rush here; the shop operates on a pace that feels distinctly removed from the fast-paced energy of modern life. It is the perfect stop for history buffs or those hunting for a piece of authentic Kona heritage to take home.

Tried informing the store that they are selling fake rip off Benchmade knives and they decided to block me instead of owning up to it and removing their product. Super shady!!!

Awesome store! Of the thrift/vintage shops I visited in the area, this one felt most organized and well presented with care. The owner and shop girl were fun to chat with. I wish I had left with more - great place for a unique souvenir or gift.

You step into Discovery Antiques and you're immediately enamored by every item, everything is a treasure, a relic of time passed. Peter, the owner, is incredible – ready to tell you a story. He's inviting, kind, and genuinely passionate about each object in the shop. It’s the kind of place you wander slowly, discovering something new in every corner, careful....you may never leave. The shop is a true gem!

Awesome vintage store with great island treasures! Sales guy was super friendly! Bought a vintage wooden sungka game (shaped like a Gecko!) we used to play at Grandmas house on Lanai! So happy to bring it home!

I had so much fun visiting this charming store! There are several rooms filled with antique knick knacks, decorations, jewelry, etc., etc., etc! Everything is so neat and clean and orderly. There are also racks of new clothing on the porch to browse. I was fortunate to have a chance to chat with the owner and he seemed like an awesome person! 👍

One of the best antique stores I have had the pleasure of visiting. I got a really cool metal sign and found some other things that I would have bought (the most awesome didgeridoo) had I been able to fit them in a suitcase. Very very helpful folks.
