About
A Refreshing Corner of Downtown Hilo
When you find yourself wandering the historic storefronts of Hilo town, the vibrant menu at Tiger Tea offers a necessary cooling reprieve. This spot has carved out a dedicated following among locals who prioritize quality boba over sugary, artificial syrups. The interior is functional and minimalist, letting the focus remain entirely on the layered textures of their signature brown sugar milk tea.
The Art of the Boba
The hallmark of a visit here is the chew of the tapioca pearls, which are consistently cooked to a perfect, soft-yet-resilient consistency that holds its own against the rich, creamy house blend. Beyond the classic milk teas, they serve an array of fruit-infused jasmine teas that capture the bright, tropical essence of the Big Island. You will often hear the rhythmic whir of the industrial shakers behind the counter, a sound that signals a freshly crafted drink tailored to your specific sweetness preference.
Practical Observations
While the menu is expansive and highly customizable, keep in mind that parking in this part of Hilo can be a bit of a challenge during peak afternoon hours. It is an ideal stop for a quick afternoon pick-me-up or a post-walk treat while exploring the local shops. Whether you are a long-time resident or just passing through the windward side of Hawaii, the no-nonsense approach to tea craftsmanship makes this a reliable destination for a genuinely refreshing beverage.

Has a Vietnamese Coffee with coconut ice cream. I was hoping it would be like the ones we just had on our trip to Vietnam, but alas it wasn't. Not bad, but not comparable. Also had a Thai Iced Tea, which was disappointing.

Food was ok, few tweeks and it could have been great. Rice noodles too soft and needed more veggies. Flavors were good. Portion was good as well. Will give it another try in a few weeks.

This is my favorite Vietnamese Pho place. I've tried three other places in town and this one is far better than the others. The broth is super flavorful. They make their own hot chili sauce that's fantastic.

What a great find! The food was delicious! We got banh mi, pho, noodles, spring rolls and summer rolls! Everything was delicious. The staff went above and beyond to take care of us. Another patron forgot their phone and they ran down the street to return it! The restaurant was clean and smelled nice! Will go back next time we're in town!

We were looking for something homey and warm to eat after a long arduous touring and traveling. We found this cute little family owned restaurant. Right when I entered, I immediately knew it was going to be good as the pho aroma hit our faces. We ordered the combination and it was one of the best food we ate on the island. Will come back on our next trip.

I ordered a bbq chicken lemongrass sandwich with apple green milk tea and both were delicious! I was really happy to find out they have nondairy milk for their boba. The owner is so friendly too; he checked on all his customers during their meal to make sure everything was good. I hope this place sticks around for a very long time!

Beef Bahn Mi sandwich and Monster Boba so good! Best brown sugar boba drink in Hilo. The sandwiches are freshly made and healthy tons of flavor! Been going to this place for years they recently switched sides of the street to do food also. Very friendly and large dining area.

My cousins in California said Ding Tea is the best boba joint so I decided to try the one here. I have no complaints. Tasty boba tea. Nice little cafe with lots of art for taking pictures just like the other locations.
