The Tiki Turtle Cafe
About
A Slice of Pacific Island Casual
In the heart of downtown Hilo, The Tiki Turtle Cafe brings a laid-back, tropical energy that feels less like a quick stop and more like a local tradition. If you are wandering through the historic storefronts near the waterfront, the faint scent of fresh lilikoi and toasted macadamia nuts usually points the way. This is the spot where locals duck out of the Hilo drizzle to grab a plate that feels like a home-cooked island meal.
Menu Staples and Island Influence
The kitchen leans heavily into Big Island sourcing. Their signature preparations often highlight fresh, line-caught fish and locally grown kalo, presented with a simplicity that lets the ingredients shine. You won't find overly complicated fusion here; instead, expect robust portions of classic island comfort food. The poke bowls are particularly well-regarded for their firm texture and perfectly seasoned shoyu base, a direct result of their commitment to daily sourcing from nearby suppliers.
The Rhythm of the Cafe
Stepping inside, you are greeted by the hum of an overhead fan and the steady clatter of ceramic plates. The seating is modest and utilitarian, designed for quick turnover rather than lingering, but that’s part of the charm. It can get a bit crowded during the lunch rush, and you might find yourself sharing a bench with a local business owner or a surfer checking the morning swell, but the friendly staff keeps the line moving with genuine aloha. It is an ideal refuge for anyone wanting to bypass the tourist-heavy dining options and eat exactly where the residents of East Hawaii go for their midday recharge.

A lovely little place for tourists to swing by. The smoothies are tasty and the food real refreshing. When you're looking for a place to recharge in between swimming and viewing the waterfalls, swing by here for one of the best lunches you can have

Great Dole whip: today’s flavors were: pineapple, mango, and vanilla. Cup or cone. Vanilla and pineapple swirl was so delicious. If you want more of a fruity swirl then go with mango and pineapple. They take card and there is free m parking.

After seeing numerous road signs for the cafe my daughter and I stopped after a visit to rainbow falls. Its literally 2 minutes from the falls and really easy to get to with ample parking. If you want a delicious lunch or a DOLEWHIP for a decent price come here! The service was phenomenal, the person that helped us was kind and professional! Dont hesitate!

Adorable place, friendly employees, cute hibiscus decorations, good vibe, reasonable prices. Only downside was the food wasn't that great :( Salad was supposed to come with grilled chicken strips and it was just cold shredded chicken. Dole whip was good!

Stop by for refreshing tropical ice cream. Or have a sandwich/wrap. The chicken salad Mac nut pesto is really good as a wrap. All meals come with your choice of pasta salad, chips or pineapple slaw. You must try the pineapple slaw, it is sweet and crunchy. Perfect for a warm afternoon raine or shine. For kids, get the deli sandwich and split it.

Saw a flag on the road for “pineapple whip” or Dole whip which is Anna amazing nondairy frozen treat that is so good, it brought us into a little area and we were not disappointed. TTCafe is a little window service spot that seems to be very popular, reasonably priced compared to any other place here with friendly service and some nice choices. We would recommend. Lots of free parking too and near Rainbow Falls Lookout. 🌴🍦🍨
