Pizza Ala Slice
About
Grab a Slice in the Heart of Hilo
Finding a reliable, no-frills lunch in Hilo often leads locals straight to the counter at Pizza Ala Slice. It is the kind of place where the aroma of bubbling mozzarella and toasted crust hits you the moment you step off the sidewalk. This isn't about white tablecloths or complex reservations; it is about getting a hot, greasy slice of comfort into your hands as quickly as possible.
The Island-Style Grab-and-Go
The menu keeps things straightforward, focusing on the basics that make a classic slice work. Whether you are looking for a quick pepperoni fix or a simple cheese slice to fuel a day of exploring the Big Island, the workflow here is fast and efficient. You will notice the open kitchen layout, which keeps the energy high even when the lunch rush starts to pack the narrow floor space.
Local Flavor and Practical Advice
While the pizzas are the main draw, be prepared for a bit of a localized scramble during the busy hours. Parking near this downtown Hilo institution can occasionally be a challenge, so consider walking over if you are already exploring the nearby shops or waterfront. It is the perfect spot for hungry locals, students, and travelers who appreciate a thin, crispy crust that doesn't shy away from being generous with the toppings. When you need a fast bite that feels authentic to the local Hilo pace, this remains a consistent anchor in the downtown food scene.

Upcharging all items on receipt without any signs that they add to the prices posted on the menu. Either change your prices or post a sign that you add 5% on top without customers’ knowledge. Bad business practice.

Pizza is different if you enjoy the softer style of dough. I like it because it reminds me of school lunch pizza. I also like the gyro sandwich or the gyro plates. I'm pretty sure it's nothing like the authentic gyros but it'll do if you want a little gyro fix. They also do give a Military discount if you present a Military i.d. and if you are served by the gentleman owner he will personally thank you for your military service.

Ordered the gyro, and it was pretty bad and over priced. Meat was hard and dry, the over all gryo was very dry. Would never go back for it again. That day the pizza wasn't the best either. Under cooked and soggy.

I always went there as a little girl the owner known as “happy man” he is a very awesome guy. The worker that works in the front the one who has long dark straight hair but wears a clip, she was very very very rude . She couldn’t smile , she couldn’t greet customers , she kept rolling her eyes and sighing . She was very rude . And there salad tasted like soap or never gotten washed. They were very rude .

Never eaten here though it’s been here forever and everyone tells me the gyros are pretty good. I agree now! We ordered the gyro meal for about $28 but it was enough to feed 2 easily. Portions were generous and the quality was good. Tzatziki was tasty and the pita bread was nice too. Only bummer thing is it’s in the mall and by an arcade.

No wonder nobody else ate here while we were there. Worst pizza I’ve ever eaten. Cheap frozen pizza beats this. To top that, we had an obese teenage girl working the counter that was LAZY, not helpful, and obnoxiously rude. Here only interest, was the young boy that walked up and lounged around on top of the food counter to amuse her. Never ever eat here. It’s a nasty dump. I could go on and on, but you get the point. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Even though the menu was off we knew exactly what we wanted, gyro plate! My love language is good food and that ultimate bite of goodness. Beautiful afternoon in Hilo. It was so good to sit and take a break to such yumminess!

I recently visited Pizza Ala Slice located at the Hilo Mall and I must say that it was a terrible experience. The customer service was horrendous, to say the least. The staff was unfriendly and unhelpful, and it felt like they didn't care at all about the customers. To make matters worse, the food quality was also subpar. The pizza I ordered was not only cold but also had a strange taste. It was almost as if it had been sitting there for hours before being served. The toppings were sparse and tasteless, and the crust was dry and hard to chew. Overall, my experience at Pizza Ala Slice was truly miserable. The poor customer service combined with the terrible food quality left me feeling disappointed and frustrated. I do not recommend this place to anyone and will not be returning. Save your money and go across the street to S&P Pizza in the KTA plaza for a much better and cheaper dining experience.

I LOVE this place. Might not look like much but I love going there for the gyros. I always choose going there for food out of all the food places in the mall 😬. I don't like eating super heavy when shopping in the mall so the gyros are perfect. Got my family ordering them now lol. I also love their pizza because it's different. Thick slices and perfect serving. I haven't tried anything else but always see lots of people ordering the cheese bread and ceasar salad. Always tell myself I'm going to try other things but I always end up getting the gyros haha. Also, the owner is always super super sweet to me (I think he's the owner). When I ordered once, he adored my daughter and gave her a lollipop even though she was super shy. We also passed by to use the bathrooms before we left Hilo and he remembered us and gave my daughter another lollipop.
