McDonald's - Hilo (E Makaala St (walmart))
About
Convenience Meets Local Rhythm in Hilo
Situated right at the busy entrance to the Hilo Walmart complex, this McDonald’s serves as the go-to pit stop for locals and visitors alike. Whether you are stocking up on groceries or finishing a long morning of errands, the golden arches here offer a consistent pace that mirrors the relaxed energy of the Big Island. The space is bright and functional, capturing the steady hum of community movement near Prince Kuhio Plaza.
A Familiar Menu With a Hawaiian Touch
While the menu features the global standards you know—like the classic Big Mac and crispy World Famous Fries—this Hilo location is a functional hub for families and commuters needing a reliable meal. You will often find the dining area filled with students and professionals grabbing a quick coffee or a late-afternoon snack. It is the perfect spot to recharge if you find yourself needing a familiar comfort between adventures in East Hawaii.
The Practical Choice
Let’s be honest: the proximity to one of Hilo’s most important retail centers makes this spot incredibly practical, though the parking lot can get quite congested during peak shopping hours. If you are looking for a straightforward, no-fuss meal without the wait times of a formal sit-down restaurant, this is your baseline. The staff is accustomed to the rapid flow of the neighborhood, ensuring that your order moves as quickly as the rain clouds pass over Mauna Kea.

This place is super slow! We ordered on the app, and arrived about 20 minutes later, and we still had to wait. Also, the directions on Google maps mislead you. There’s another McDonald’s about a half mile away. Would definitely go there instead.

We get McDonald's fairly often and understand what to expect. The service was awful. The employee couldn't even tell me the difference between a crispy and a mccrispy deluxe. My husband's 's cheeseburger was okay but my McCrispy was definitely burned. Instead of calling out the number. They just said it on the counter and it was never on the display showing who is served. Almost every seat was taken in the place. The most disappointing McDonald's lunch I've ever ordered. I removed the bun because I don't eat gluten but the chicken patty I couldn't even finish. It was so burned. The employee that was cleaning the dining room was rude. I don't think I'll ever eat here again.

Janitor swept under our table while eating and thought it was a good idea to sweep right over both of my wife’s feet, not sure if this standard practice but she was in shock as he swept over them with no regard for his dirty broom touching her beautiful feet.

I wouldn't usually leave a review for Mickeydees, but wow spam, eggs and rice on the menu for breakfast? That's my dream meal! Now I wish I lived in Hawaii! Also for those who've never been to Hawaii and gotten this meal, it's delicious!

13.25 to start? As in per hour? In Hawaii? To serve food all day on your feet ? McDonald’s is preying on desperate and state ebt benefits, not only does the money you spend here not go to Hawaiians but they are welfare queens. Nope, ugly way to make that much money.
