L&L Hawaiian Barbecue - Hilo (Kinoole St)

It’s unfortunate because the amenities are great and it’s newly renovated, but there are problems with necessities that need to be fixed. For example, the room keys would need to reset multiple times a day, the shower didn’t drain properly, and there were ants in our room. The nice look doesn’t make up for the lost functionality.

This was a godsend in Hilo!! Cool vibes, great community feel and a great mix of ages. I felt very welcomed and appreciated and the staff are friendly and fun to chat with. The cultural sessions were unique and the bikes+SUPs use was excellent!! Rooms are basic, but nicely decorated. The open areas are the best, plus their mini-gym was awesome. Lobby is gorgeous and the view out to the bay is lovely. Airport noise is present, but I'd definitely return anyway.

I had such a relaxing and refreshing stay here during my trip. The hotel has a really calm, peaceful vibe that makes it so easy to unwind, and the focus on being eco-friendly and healthy is a nice touch. I loved the simple, modern design of the room and the outdoor space was just perfect for sitting and enjoying the tropical weather. It felt like a true sanctuary after a long day of exploring, and I’m definitely planning to come back on my next visit to the island.

The hotel has a beautiful lobby that overlooks an oceanfront park. The staff is pleasant and helpful. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The downside is that the rooms feel like they were built over 50 years ago. The walls and windows are thin. You will hear your neighbors walking and talking, other guests walking past your room, and planes landing several times per hour. If you're looking for budget accommodations in Hilo, this hotel is a great option. Just be aware that construction is less fancy than a Holiday Inn Express.

This was a great hotel for our family. The rooms were small but comfortable enough for our family of 5. They had lots of perks (board games, paddle boards, bikes, etc.). Our kids LOVED the beach park across the street which had tons of sea turtles. The staff were also wonderful!!!

I would not stay here nor recommend it to anyone. I was recommended this hotel by my sister and had to have a strong conversation with her about that. When we drove past initially my fiancée joked that was where we were staying and boy were we surprised when we found out that was actually where we were staying. The mood turned back to okay when we entered the lobby as it was clean and appeared modern. Check it was smooth. However no one told us we needed to turn on the AC or the fan using remotes in the room. Water refill station was convenient. We only came to the Hilo side as it was closer to Mauna Kea and Volcano National Park. After we saw the room, we made sure to spend as little time there as possible. We did not explore the pool, paddle boards, or fitness area so I can’t comment on those. We got to the room and opened the door that was as light as cardboard. It is very much a motel. The doors open to open air and there’s only 2 floors. I’ll add a picture showing you can see the outdoors from inside the room via the poor door with no insulation/proper closure. The windows…why don’t we have real windows. They are glass panes you can shut but again not real windows. No privacy either seeing as the door is barely a door and the windows are barely windows. I read so many reviews of cockroaches (after checking in of course) and therefore couldn’t sleep well at all. Slept with the lights on in hopes to keep the bugs away. There were flying and crawling small bugs around the sink in the bathroom mostly. They need to put in real doors, windows, a bathroom ceiling fan. The motel does not need a bidet. There was mold (or some other black gunky substance) in the shower. They have a wooden piece hanging out over the sink making it impossible to wash your face in the sink. Overall, I was able to fall asleep eventually and the location was convenient for our needs so I gave 2 stars for that.

5stars in every area. Started with Reservations manager & excellent front staff. Super simple Clean boutique hotel. Perfect area for walking/ biking a beautiful part of Hilo. Front lobby is open aired & cozy. Enjoyed coffee & filter water machine. Very fun gift shop. (Pass on the restaurant next door) Definitely recommend & would stay again.

EDIT: The staff here are amazing, so amazing that I decided to adjust my review. Thank you for the kind reply and for a good stay. Mahalo Staff were very friendly and courteous. The cleaning crew was TERRIFIC!! Bed was comfy. Toilet (TOTO) was fantastic! And I liked how the quiet rooms are actually very quiet. The room is very small, though. The location is absolutely fantastic though. I feel this place could really really excel, and cater to an upper class crowd. Just needs some more tlc on the outdoors and building exteriors. The restaurant left ALOT to be desired, but I don’t consider that part of the hotel so no issues there. I would not consider this a “resort,” but I may just be spoiled. To me it was a very clean hotel with lots of high end upgrades inside the rooms.

Basic rooms but they were modern and well maintained. Great amenities such as a pool, free bikes and paddleboards, gym and sitting areas. Free parking was also great!
