About
A Slice of Hilo Daily Life
Stepping into Kilauea Market feels less like a quick grocery run and more like a handshake with the Hilo community. This spot serves as a reliable anchor in the neighborhood, drawing in locals who know exactly where to find the best poke bowls and prepared snacks before heading toward the coast. The air carries the faint, salty scent of the Pacific, mixed with the sharp, savory aroma of fresh shoyu and sesame oil wafting from the deli counter.
Why Locals Keep Coming Back
It is the kind of place where the coolers are packed with ice-cold beverages and the shelves are stocked with essentials you didn't realize you needed until you saw them. While the aisles are compact and you might find yourself doing a bit of maneuvering to get around other shoppers, that close-quarters energy is part of the charm. It is unpretentious, straightforward, and efficient.
The Go-To Quick Stop
If you are looking for a grab-and-go meal that actually tastes like the islands, their prepared food selection is the main attraction. Whether you are stocking up for a day at the beach or just grabbing a quick lunch break in the heart of East Hawaii, the quality consistently hits the mark. Expect a steady buzz of conversation and the rhythmic hum of refrigerator compressors in the background—it is the quintessential soundtrack of a hardworking Hilo neighborhood market. Just keep in mind that parking can be a bit of a dance during peak lunch hours, so arrive with a bit of patience and an empty stomach.

I bought this yesterday with many other items and it is over a year expired. I checked all the items I purchased and found 3 other items expired. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it was expired until I went to take a sip and it was sour! Pretty nasty! Heading back to the store and see what they do before I change my review! Returned items and able to get store credit. Thank goodness!

It is a nice shop; but at time, some items are out of stock, the staffs are nice and helpful.

I love this damn store, all the cutlery and pans and stuff is very nice. Plus I can get all the foods I can't get at the mainstream stores here. Love the noodles and frozen potstickers

I bought 4 items and took them home to realize that 3 of them were expired 2 years ago. The guy working there, Jared, refused to give us a full refund. He was incredibly argumentative and yelled insults at us. He told me I need to "put a leash on my wife". I've never encountered a more disrespectful person in my life.

Decent selection of Asian food here, lots of cookware, Wok burners, etc. Pretty high prices compared to a mainland Asian store,(prices seem high compared to other grocery stores in Hilo as well)but, lots to pick from.

I think these other 2 reviews here is comparing the experience to a normal market. This is hilo, no one needs to have there hand held when they enter a super market here. If you like what you see, go ahead and purchase it. If you dont than leave. Simple. This store does what we need it to do and thats why its been in the community for a long time.

Awesome people, good and fair prices and a great selection. We’ve been shopping here for years. Sometimes a little messy, but it’s part of the Asian flavor I love.
