About
Reliable Comfort Food in the Heart of Hilo
When you find yourself cruising down E Puainako Street in Hilo, the distinct, savory aroma of pressure-fried chicken is hard to miss. Whether you are grabbing a quick lunch before heading toward the lush landscapes of the Big Island or picking up a bucket for a family gathering, the kitchen maintains the standard-issue crispiness that defines the brand.
The Hilo Experience
The interior reflects a utilitarian, grab-and-go energy. You will hear the familiar hum of fryers and the occasional chatter of staff moving through the lunch rush. It is a no-frills environment, perfect for those moments when you need a predictable meal without the fuss of a sit-down affair. Pro tip: the parking lot can get tight during peak hours, so navigate the turns with a bit of extra caution as the lot merges with the general flow of traffic in this busy commercial pocket of Hilo.

It is simple, hot, and dependable, providing exactly what you expect when the craving for fried chicken strikes in East Hawaii.

* WARNING ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ these people WILL steal your money!!!!!! I gave 1 star because there's no option to give negative star reviews. I got a 5 piece chicken tenders... These are literally smaller than nuggets from McDonald's, I confronted the manager, she laughed and said I can't get a refund. These people WILL steal your money and give you nothing!!!!

Been going here for two years and the chicken consistently, sucks. It’s dry and it’s like it was fried in flour with no seasonings whatsoever. The original is never juicy. At least when it comes to the breasts. For some reason, the Kona KFC does a much better job. It’s weird how much better it is over there considering it’s on the same island. The staff though, are extremely friendly.

Ordered a 5 piece tender meal that comes with two sauces and paid extra for two sauces. Got home to realize they only put 1 sauce in total in the bag. Ordered 2 honeys for my biscuit and didn't get any. Tenders were also cold and not Crispy at all. And when you pay extra for the Colonel's famous lemonaide, they give you pink lemonaide Tropicana. Very disappointed, first and last time coming here

The manager was on the counter AND doing drive thru. The store was quite obviously short staffed, but the manager handled all with a smile as she multitasked. I don't eat fast food but the pot pie was tasty

Tried placing an order on the app didn't go through correctly so I re-placed the order while waiting in the eating area. Out of coleslaw just seems like it's one of the 10 things on the menu you should stock it, kind of crazy to run out but whatever. My issue was that whoever stacked all the food in the bag needs some basic common sense. Wet things go on the bottom, lighter things on top. By the time I got home the container of gravy was vertical and went right through the paper bag. Mess on everything, all the other containers, to go bag was trashed, gravy and sauce packets all over my passenger side floorboard. Quite easily the worst KFC I've ever been to. If it's not packaging, it's not seasoned correctly, or national deals don't apply, at least the staff figured out how to time the food better so you're not waiting forever for your food. Still, somethings always wrong when I order here.

I doubt that I will be able to add a photo, but I got the three-piece chicken tender meal, and the pieces of chicken were unbelievably tiny. 2 inches in length for one and the other two were 2 1/2 inches long that’s it. I didn’t realize you also have to ask for butter and honey for your biscuit because they don’t include that anymore either Along with the little hand wipe. The sweet little girl taking my order was very nice, but lacked any personality whatsoever. She didn’t seem to understand when I asked for extra ice in my drink, and didn’t give me my change for quite a long while because she had to stop and change the tape in the machine. All the wild the drawer was open, but figuring out how much she owed me was a difficult task.

Absolutely terrible. The portion size of everything was so tiny that It took me four spoonfuls to finish my order of mashed potatoes and gravy. We paid extra for some white meat, and the breast was so small that it must have come from a quail. KFC is usually overcooked, but the breasts were so overcooked that neither my partner nor I wanted to finish the last one even though we were both still hungry. Over $40 for a tiny portion of food. The few positive things I can say is that the biscuits were pretty good and worth the price. The coleslaw was quite tasty, but again, we only got a tiny portion. The chicken "tenders" were so small and about as tender as shoe leather, but edible and the taste was decent. You'd be much better off driving across the street and going to get the big, juicy, delicious chicken tenders from Safeway, along with a box of instant potatoes, a pouch of gravy mix, and then stop at KFC to get some biscuits. It would cost much less and you'd get a lot more, tastier food. The pic below is their idea of a serving size of mashed potatoes and gravy. If I worked there, I would be embarrassed to be serving this to customers for the prices they charge. Easily the worst food at the most expensive price I've had since I moved back to Hilo. Bad fast food at gourmet prices. UPDATE: KFC said that they would get in touch with me and never bothered. I guess there's nothing they can really do since they've decided to just rip off us Hawaiian residents. I was in Ohio this last week and we had KFC and the food was good, the portion size was at least 10x that of Hawaii, and the price for the exact same meal was almost $20 less. ($31 vs $47.) Do NOT buy KFC in Hawaii. This is outrageous and we should not let them get away with this lack of food, quality, and customer service. I am completely disgusted.

Slow service for mobile order. Waited for 15 minutes after pick up time. Extra crispy was not extra crispy..

EDIT: yet again they screw up my order. Supposed to be a Nashville Hot Chicken loaded french fry bowl. It's got absolutely no sauce on it and no pickles. I threw it right in the garbage. Been here twice in the past 3 days and both times my order is wrong. Same cashier who doesn't really seem to care. First order was large mash with gravy, small corn, and a side of gravy. Received mash with no gravy. I had wanted and paid for a side. Today I order large mash no gravy and a small corn. He rings up a small mash with gravy and a small mac n cheese and I said that's wrong. Then he rings up a large mash with gravy and I said no gravy again. Then finally he rings up one with no gravy. My fault for not seeing he rung up mac and cheese until I drove off. KFC has the worst mac and cheese in the fast food business I've ever had. I'm done with this location.

We ordered 2 chicken littles. Don’t know if they dropped them in the mayonnaise as a coating or had a contest for who could use the most condiments on 1 sandwich… 🤷🏽♀️either way, corporate KFC needs to consider the condiment cost as an excessive expense for this location.🙄
