Ihop (111 E Puainako St)
About
Fuel Your Hilo Adventures
Located right off the main thoroughfare near the Puainako shopping hubs, this IHOP serves as a reliable cornerstone for residents and visitors alike. Whether you are prepping for a drive toward Volcano or fueling up before a shift at the nearby hospital, the atmosphere here is pure, no-frills comfort. Expect the familiar clatter of silverware and the scent of sizzling bacon that welcomes you the moment you step through the glass doors.
Fluffy Stacks and Local Favorites
While the menu is famous for its iconic buttermilk pancakes, this spot often feels like an extension of the local community. It is common to see tables pushed together for large Hilo families sharing platters of the Rooty Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity or the classic Big Steak Omelette. The kitchen handles high-volume mornings with impressive speed, and there is a distinct pleasure in watching a server expertly balance a towering stack of blueberry pancakes while the Kona coffee flows steadily.
A Quick Note on the Layout
The dining room is spacious, though the parking lot can get remarkably tight during weekend rushes when everyone decides they want a post-hike feast at the same time. It is a bustling, high-energy environment that works best for groups who value consistency and a hearty, hot meal served with a side of island-style efficiency. If you need a solid, predictable breakfast that hits the spot every single time you’re cruising through the Hilo side, this is your go-to destination.

Patrick was wonderful. Very knowledgeable. By making several suggestions to maneuver my food allergens, we all had a delicious, hearty meal with confidence and no reactions. Very friendly and cheerful despite having an owie on his nose. The manager also gave us reassurance and she let us know about several of the changes recently for late night dining. Open 24 hours Fri/Sat, and 10 every other night.

Had a really good experience at IHOP. Food was ono. I got the breakfast biscuit sandwich and my friend went with the hamburger omelet, and both came out real good. Service was awesome too. Our waitress was super nice and kept checking in on us, made sure our drinks stay full, I think I went through like three refills easy. Even the manager came by and was real friendly, told us about filling out one card for get $10 off. Small kine thing but made us feel taken care of. Overall, just a good, easy dinner. Good food, good service, no complaints. Mahalo IHOP Hilo!

Our waitress Miya provided the best customer service ever. She was so polite and gave a good suggestion for our 4 year old son food that we ordered, with putting the sauce on the side and also gave us a heads up on the strawberries because they were in a glaze sauce. I wasn’t about to have my son make a mess. But I overall best experience.

Had such a great experience at IHOP in Hilo! The food was fresh, hot, and exactly what we were craving—but what really made our visit stand out was our server, Rebecca. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. You can tell she genuinely cares about her customers. Service like that makes all the difference. We’ll definitely be back—thanks, Rebecca, for making our meal so enjoyable!

Our server did an awesome job she gave us our drink first my son went to my car to put his bike in my car. The hostess did a great job at seating me and directed my son to our table I worked in the Food and beverage as a Restaurant managerfor a total of 15 years. Both in the dining room as well as banquet. I was also a secret shopper observing different dining etiquettes at the facilities. In which also helped me as a manager. Our server was Maraea who was pleasant and attentive to our table. She was attentive to all of her tables during our meal. Her tables thanked her smiling. She was the friendliest server while others stood by. I would recommend IHOP to my family and friends

IHOP is one of our favorite breakfast spots in Hilo. The food and service are consistently good- the menu has all the traditional breakfast favorites: omelets, crepes, pancakes, french toast, hash browns...even chicken & waffles! We especially appreciate the healthy options like egg whites, protein pancakes and vegetable sides. It's also a great choice for lunch too! Their Philly Cheesesteak satisfies the craving. If you get a chance to be seated with Caroline or Miya, you're in luck! They ALWAYS take great care of us. Bonus: If you have shopping to do, the restaurant is located in Prince Kuhio Mall, adjacent to Longs and across the street from Ross, Office Depot, Walmart, Target Safeway and Home Depot- so plan your visit accordingly.

The IHOP on the Big Island of Hawaii is my favorite place to go for breakfast although I have had lunch there as well. The Spinach & Mushroom Omelette with fried potatoes and Sourdough toast & Coffee has been my usual meal now for a few months that my waitress now knows without even asking me what I’m going to have! The restaurant itself is very clean, no super long wait time from entering til you’re seated, the atmosphere is so pleasing, everyone is so friendly and welcoming! I rate it a 10!
