A Boardwalk Staple in the Heart of Hilo

Stepping into the Hot Dog on a Stick location off Puainako Street brings a specific kind of nostalgia often reserved for coastal boardwalks. While the Big Island is known for its poke and local plate lunches, sometimes the craving for a golden, deep-fried corn dog is unavoidable. This spot delivers the classic, consistent crunch of a hand-dipped batter that pairs perfectly with a cup of their signature fresh-squeezed lemonade.

The Perfect Quick Pit Stop

Located conveniently for those traversing Hilo’s major retail corridor, this is the ultimate spot for a fast, no-fuss snack. The kitchen team works with rhythmic efficiency, keeping the line moving even during the afternoon rush. You will often hear the familiar sizzle of the fryers and the sharp citrus scent of freshly juiced lemons before you even reach the order counter.

Why It Works for Hilo Locals

It is not a fine-dining affair, and the seating area reflects a casual, utilitarian approach common to high-traffic retail centers. The space is bright, airy, and functional—ideal for grabbing a quick bite between errands or cooling down with a slushy drink after a hot morning in the sun. If you find yourself navigating the busy traffic near the Hilo shopping hubs, it remains a reliable constant for a salty, sweet pick-me-up. Just be prepared for a bit of a challenge finding an open spot in the parking lot during peak weekend hours, as this shopping plaza stays consistently active throughout the day.

We just went (4/8) Wednesday afternoon. Workers have a hot attitude, asked a simple question to repeat what she had said again and proceeded to answer with an attitude. We know this isnt a 5 star establishment but damn.. yall really went through all those interviews and trainings for costumer service like this? Come to hot dog on a stick if you want to pay 4-5 bucks for a corn dog with major attitude on the side...lemonade is superb tho.

They batter the fish and Hot dogs right in front of you. (My first time having Alaskan Pollock.) The fish is served with sweet tarter and lemon wedge. They have dragonfruit syrup They can add to your lemonade for a small upcharge. It's very good.

They have decent battered fish ( pollock) and battered fried zucchini too! Nice option for those of us not into hot dogs. Batter is excellent and fish and zucchini were fried in clean oil and fried correctly. Decent Food for a Mall Setting

Workers are rude and don't know how to operate their equipment. Multiple times on different days they shutdown to heat their fryers.

Yummmm! I ordered the Pepoer jack cheese. It was coated with a corn dog batter and its ooey gooey goodness was fried to perfection! I also got the strawberry lemonade and it was delicious as well! The staff was super accommodating and very welcoming. I will definitely be back.

I'm so happy to see Hot Dog On A Stick in Hilo, Hawai'i. It's been years since the last time I visited one, because they closed a number of their stores in California and in Maui. So today, I bought myself 2 Corn-Dogs, 1 Regular French-Fries, and 1 Large Strawberry Lemonade. It was super delicious 😋. I will definitely come back for more. Mahalo Hot Dog On A Stick!🤙♥️

I didnt realize how good thier beef corndogs were! The service was really quick and they were friendly even when I was missing something. The lemonade is great, the funnel cakes good, the platters are made fresh. No wonder it's been open for ever!

Went at 4pm on a Saturday and was told I couldn’t get the fish and zucchini platter because the oil was low, the store doesn’t close till 8pm on Saturday’s. I Was disappointed I couldn’t get what was on the menu, that was the first time that ever happened. I will try again and update this review if I get better service.

They don’t even deserve a star. Their customer service is horrible. Employees are moke status yelling out people’s orders. Rude and so obnoxious. It’s a bit embarrassing honestly. Definitely doesn’t give off a welcoming feeling. I’d prefer to wait and have Hot Dog on a Stick on another island or California. Employees are unethical. Using profanity while you wait for your order. Talking about partying. Who wants to listen to that. The manager is pretty careless about her workers or the company. It’s pretty sad. Maybe a re-evaluation of workers. Rocking gold chains, but if you was really balling you definitely wouldn’t be working at Hot Dog on a Stick.

Haven't eaten there in a while so we went last Saturday. Waiting for the shop to open at 10a. The employee was preparing things but when 10a came, I stood at the counter for over 15 minutes to be helped and I was totally ignored. Its lent season and really wanted to eat fish for lunch but I said screw this place and just left. Went all the way to Pahoa and got my fish n chips, was worth it. I went back to this bad service place today to get fish dishes again and I got more batter than fish and zucchini. Just horrible never again!
