About
A Taste of the Big Island in Every Bite
Located in the heart of Hilo, Hawaii Island Gourmet Products has become a cornerstone for those seeking authentic, locally crafted snacks. As you approach the storefront, the air carries the distinct, buttery scent of roasted macadamia nuts, a hallmark of their production process. This is not your typical tourist-trap souvenir shop; it is a working facility where tradition meets culinary craft.
Handcrafted Island Flavors
The shop is best known for its signature macadamia nut shortbread cookies, which strike a perfect balance between a crisp, buttery snap and a melt-in-your-mouth finish. Beyond the cookies, the shelves are stocked with chocolate-covered macadamias and local preserves that capture the essence of Big Island agriculture. Watching the team package these items by hand provides a behind-the-scenes look at the labor-intensive process that goes into every batch.
Why Visit This Hilo Staple
This spot is ideal for travelers looking to bring a genuine piece of Hilo back home or for residents stocking up on high-quality snacks. The atmosphere is unpretentious and industrious. Be prepared for a modest shopping experience—it’s a working warehouse-style space, so don't expect plush seating or high-end decor. Parking can be a bit of a challenge during peak hours, but the smell of warm sugar and roasted nuts is worth the minor hunt for a spot on the street. Whether you are grabbing a box of their famous shortbread for a friend or treating yourself to an afternoon snack, the quality here remains consistently high, reflecting the deep agricultural roots of this side of the island.

Naengmyeon (Cold Noodles): The broth tastes exactly like the Korean version, as if they use Korean stock. They give you a generous amount of beef toppings. They don't provide vinegar mustard. Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew): Tastes like the kimchi stew you'd find at a snack bar... It's loaded with MSG, so it has a great umami flavor. It's a familiar taste. They put in a little pork and a huge amount of tofu. Jeyuk (Spicy Pork): The spicy and sweet flavor profile is similar, but slightly different. That's not to say it's bad. It's a slightly less familiar taste, but it's delicious... The side dishes have a distinct Korean flavor... They seem to use coarse red chili powder.
