Domino's Pizza - Hilo (Maka'ala Street)
About
A Hilo Staple for Late-Night Cravings
When you are navigating the busy corridors near Prince Kuhio Plaza and the need for a quick, reliable slice hits, this spot on Maka'ala Street is the go-to for East Hawaii residents. Whether you are fueling up after a long day of shopping or organizing a family gathering in Hilo, the kitchen here churns out pies with a consistency that locals rely on.
What to Expect Behind the Counter
The operation is a well-oiled machine. You will likely smell the distinct aroma of yeast dough and melting mozzarella the moment you step toward the pickup window. The menu covers all the bases, from the classic hand-tossed pepperoni to the specialty feast pizzas that arrive piping hot. If you prefer to skip the wait, the delivery drivers are intimately familiar with the layout of the surrounding Big Island neighborhoods, ensuring your order hits your doorstep before the cheese cools.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
It is worth noting that the parking lot serving this commercial cluster can get quite congested during peak dinner hours, so opting for delivery is often the smarter play if you are looking to avoid the shuffle. The space is strictly functional—don’t come here expecting a sit-down bistro atmosphere. Instead, expect a high-efficiency production line focused entirely on getting quality, consistent comfort food into your hands as quickly as possible. Whether you are craving garlic-infused crust or just a quick side of wings, this location maintains the standard Domino’s blueprint with local efficiency.

DO NOT STEP AWAY FROM THE COUNTER BEFORE CHECKING YOUR PIZZA. 95% chance it is wrong, or they are limited on different toppings, and have circumvented their policy to call you, and just threw it together with the bare minimum. Even on fully stocked toppings days, your pizza is still going to be wrong. If you ask for square cut, they might just throw it in a circle ⭕️, they have had decent customer service, so haven’t complained. Tonight though the assistant manager caught a nice ole atttude with me because I walked into two pizzas with just chicken, and pepperoni. That’s one topping on each, when I ordered six toppings. She rambled several things they were out of, but were still missing things they weren’t out of, and the pizzas were both cut incorrectly, and made like trash. I informed her that wasn’t going to work for me, I’d take a refund, and she reiterated with an attitude that the pizzas would be staying there if I wanted a refund. The pizzas could have went right in the trash for all I cared, I wasn’t paying for an order that I didn’t want. When I called to speak to management, they swore up and down they call every single customer when there is an inventory issue, to make sure it’s ok, but trust me they don’t. They will berate you, and swear up and down they did, but still act shocked when you tell them the pizza is wrong. I’d go to antics, Pizza Hut, Hilo pizza Co. Pay a little extra, discount domino days aren’t even worth the headache. Come on Mike Rompel, step your locations game up on the island bruh. 🤙🏾

Delivery/order not handed to me, not delivered. But online it says delivered and completed. What kind of service is this? I need my refund. Did not even call my number

Their food is always made well. Their service is exceptional. Their atmosphere takes a hit, as their bathrooms are no longer available to customers because some vandals trashed their bathrooms damaging the toilet. After fixing it their boss decided to close the domino's bathrooms to the public. A minor inconvenience for the customers. Also, depending on the time of year, their free domino's wifi my be non-functional. Other than this, it is a great place to hang out with family and friends. Highly recommend.

I recently visited your Hilo location at 315 Maka’ala Street, Ste 109, Hilo, HI 96720, and had an unfortunate experience that I’d like to bring to your attention. Upon reviewing the menu displayed on the counter, I decided to order, along with a large pizza and mac & cheese, the 8-piece chicken wings, which was clearly priced at $8.99. However, when the cashier rang up my order, the price came up as $10.99. The cashier, to his credit, was courteous and mentioned he needed to consult his supervisor. Supervisor Lena promptly came over, and after reviewing the situation, she informed me that prices had changed. While I understand that prices can fluctuate, I was surprised that the menu I was looking at did not reflect this update, and I was not made aware of the change before ordering. When I showed Lena the menu that displayed the price as $8.99, I politely asked if she could honor that price. Lena explained that the menu was simply a "visual" and that her training indicated that she was not required to honor the listed price. When I asked for further clarification or for a contact number to escalate the issue, she was unable to provide any additional details or a way to contact higher management. While I would like to emphasize that Lena was polite and professional, I found this disheartening. My concern is not with the employees themselves, as they were clearly trying to do their jobs, but rather with the lack of transparency and information available to customers. For those of us who visit in person and do not have access to phones, how are we supposed to know the correct prices when discrepancies arise? Additionally, I was disappointed that the staff were not equipped with contact information or guidance on how to address customer concerns. I sincerely hope that Domino's takes these points into consideration to improve the experience for future customers. Thank you for taking the time to read my feedback, and I look forward to hearing how this matter can be addressed.
