Morning Traditions Overlooking Honokahua Bay

Stepping into Ulana feels like an extension of the rugged Kapalua coastline. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the deep blue of the Pacific, where the smell of roasted Hawaiian coffee blends with the salty breeze rolling off the nearby cliffs. This is the primary morning destination within The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, designed for those who want to start their day with a slow pace rather than a rush.

The Flavors of Maui

The menu highlights local agriculture, featuring a signature breakfast buffet that balances classic continental staples with island-grown produce. Expect to find fresh papaya, golden pineapple, and lilikoi-infused pastries that reflect the tropical bounty of Maui. If you prefer made-to-order plates, the chefs focus on elevating island favorites, such as locally sourced macadamia nut pancakes and protein-rich breakfast bowls.

A Refreshing Start to Your Island Itinerary

The dining room carries a sophisticated yet relaxed energy, often filled with the soft clink of silverware and low-decibel morning conversation. It is an ideal spot for families or travelers prepping for a hike along the Kapalua Coastal Trail. Just keep in mind that the breakfast rush can be lively; if you prefer a quieter experience, arriving early helps you secure a table near the glass where you can spot whales breaching on the horizon during the winter months. While the pacing is measured and deliberate, the staff operates with a precision that ensures you are out the door and onto your next adventure without delay.

Food was what you would expect for over 100$ each Mother's Day brunch. Service was non-existent and no Mimosas. They charged us 80$ for 2 MaiTais and a glass of Chardonnay. Never going again.

Ulamni offers an elevated breakfast buffet that truly stands out. I loved the mix of classic breakfast favorites—like the omelet bar and waffles—paired with thoughtful local touches such as Portuguese sausage and tropical-inspired pastries. The addition of healthy, Asian-influenced options like stir-fried vegetables, fish, and dumplings makes the spread feel unique and well-balanced. There is genuinely something for everyone. The dining room is beautifully designed, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet for a buffet. No matter where you sit, you get a stunning view of the ocean, which makes the whole experience feel even more special. Highly recommend starting your morning here.

Food was amazing and the service was absolutely stellar! My only complaint is that there weren’t many vegetarian options, and the price points for vegetarian and non-vegetarian buffet were the same — hence 4 stars instead of 5. I asked the staff to make my omelette the way I like it, and they did a terrific job — it was so good we ended up ordering it again! The stir-fried veggie dish was decent, though I wish more menu items had vegan or vegetarian versions. For example, the pineapple fried rice had ham in it, so I couldn’t try it — maybe offer the ham on the side? We also had the Kona coffee, which was so, so, so good! The fresh fruit juices were great, and the coconut flaky pastry was unique and delicious. Overall, wonderful food, fantastic service, and just a bit of room to improve the vegetarian selection.

Made breakfast reservations but still had to wait for the window table as requested. Amy was an amazingly attentive and patient Server. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast (breakfast ramen, smoked salmon/hash browns and breakfast buffet). All of the food options were quality.

EXCEPTIONAL experience. The food, presentation, atmosphere, kind service was 5 stars all around. The food variety was impressive. The breakfast buffet was perfect every time with a family of all boys, we certainly got our value and the experience it gave them! Highly recommend splurging on the breakfast buffet. Views are stunning as well.

We had the breakfast buffet one morning and ordered off menu another morning. Breakfast buffet is $58 and it is great, but I think way overpriced even for Hawaii. Usually $35-40 would be reasonable and that's what they charge at the Marriott in Kauai. I won't eat $58 worth of food. So, great buffet, but VERY expensive. The other day we ordered off the menu and the food was not good. I ordered Salmon Eggs Benedict and the server asked how I wanted my poached egg cooked. There is no degree of poaching like there is on a fried egg, so I knew I was in trouble when she asked. The salmon was sliced thin and must have been fried, because the edges were dried like jerky. The eggs were soft boiled consistency with no degree of runny yolk at all. This is overcooked, not poached. My husband had Huevos Rancheros and it did not even resemble what we serve here in Texas. He said it was not very good. So, bottom line, buffet is good but expensive. Menu items were less expensive, but not good. I was very disappointed in the food at a hotel of this caliber.

My favorite seat is typically at the bar. The level of hands on service, vantage view of cocktail artists at their finest and conversing with others makes this the fun seat in the house. If you're searching for the same thing, look elsewhere. Thus was our last night on the beautiful island and we decided to splurged bit. We ordered: *Rainbow Roll ($34): Tuna/ Hamachi/ Salmon/ Shrimp / Crab /Tobiko / Avacado. Excellent quality of fish and generous amounts of Avacado. *5/5 *Spicy Tuna and Hamachi Roll ($34): Jallepeno/ Scallion/ Micro Greens. Fish again wonderful quality and a super Roll. *5/5 *Dynamite Roll ($30): 1/2 California Roll / Scallop/ Shrimp/ Tobiko/ Dynamite sauce. The flavors were very complimentary but I didn't understand as to why the sushi was presented in a small bowl. The tight container of the bowl left the sushi like a hot soupy sushi. Very unappetizing and the texture of the rice was that of rice pudding. I would have like to have enjoyed the dish presented as a typical layout, laid out on a flat plate with the Dynamite sauce then poured over so to not make the sushi a messy, hot soup. *2/5 *Apple Cheesecake Lumpia ($14): Lemongrass / Caramel. Think of it like a wonton dessert with a pleasant apple taste and yummy Caramel goodness to dredge your bites in. We throughly enjoyed this dessert. (*5/5) ***Don't make the same mistake and expect discounted Happy Hour prices. Expect to pay a hefty amount with the name Ritz-Carlton attached. Overall, our drinks and food were very good, not phenomenal. The varying level of service from wait staff seems to depend heavily on your status quo and you risk receiving subpar service if you're not of the desired class and look which I really thought we could be over by now. Our bartender really seemed disinterested in conversing with us outside of taking our order. Doesn't typically bother me unless I notice you're extra friendly with all of your other clientele. We waited extra time in between our drinks while he warmed up the people all around us. Next time, I'll return to other restaurants that warmly welcome our presence.

I don’t understand how people can have a complaint about this place. The setting is amazing. The Ritz-Carlton property is just so gorgeous. The fire pits and live music give it a nice ambiance. The service and the food was simply amazing. We ordered the Dynamite Roll, Crunch Roll and Spicy Tuna and Hamachi Roll, Sashimi Ceviche and Hamachi Jalepeno. Everything was fresh and super delicious. One of our best sushi meals ever. Our server Josh was fantastic.

Even the kids enjoyed it. They had fried rice which was a big hit!! Definitely recommend this place to anyone. Will be going here for breakfast for our entire stay 😬
