Taverna
About
A Slice of Italy on the Maui Coast
Taverna brings a refined yet approachable Italian dining experience to the heart of the Kapalua Resort. With high ceilings and an expansive open-air layout, the space feels like a vibrant Mediterranean social club where the trade winds provide a constant, cooling breeze. It is the kind of place where the clinking of wine glasses matches the rhythmic energy of a busy West Maui evening.
Handmade Pasta and Wood-Fired Flavors
At the center of the kitchen, Executive Chef Roger Stettler emphasizes house-made pastas and rustic techniques. The signature pappardelle, tossed in a rich, slow-cooked wild boar ragu, is a standout that anchors the menu. Every dish benefits from the wood-fired oven, which imparts a subtle smokiness to the pizzas and grilled proteins. The beverage program is equally thoughtful, featuring a deep bench of Italian varietals curated to cut through the richness of the house-cured meats and creamy polenta.
The Local Atmosphere
While the service remains polished and professional, the room can grow quite boisterous during peak dinner hours, creating an infectious, high-energy environment perfect for groups or a lively date night. Parking can occasionally be a puzzle given the popularity of the surrounding Kapalua Village Center, so planning for a short walk through the lush grounds is a smart move. Whether you are coming off the nearby golf course or finishing a day at the beach, Taverna offers a grounded, culinary respite that honors traditional Italian roots while embracing the laid-back spirit of the island.

Ignore early reviews! Taverna provides a truly elevated culinary experience. Thoughtfully crafted dishes, inspired wine menu and attentive staff make for a special dinner experience. We came twice while on Maui and each bite required a moment to savor and enjoy. You would pay the same for a meh meal of fries and sandwiches on the beach at your resort. Take the time come eat here and thank me later. Truffle Gnocchi - wow Ahi Katsu - exceptional no words Rack of Lamb - cooked to perfection. I vibrate herbs insane potatoes Each wine by the glass we had was absolutely lovely. Maybe skip the coffee after dinner.

This was BY FAR our favorite restaurant during our week stay! We went for dinner near the end of our trip and we were not disappointed. I would recommend doing a reservation to ensure you get a table as they were busy. The free valet parking was nice aa it was raining outside so we didn't have to run through the rain. Our waitress was super entertaining and helpful 👏 We ordered our drinks- Butterfly Kiss for me and Local seasonal draft for him. We also got 2 appetizers- the Fresh Baked Taro Rolls & the Truffle Gnocchi, both were incredible although I wish I'd saved some of my roll to dunk in the leftover sauce from the Gnocchi because that stuff was so good I wanted to drink it! For our meal, hubby got the Ahi Steak and I ordered the 8oz Filet Mignon. The manager came out because they were out of the filet mignon and offered me the 14oz Prime Grade Ribeye for 1/2 off instead. BEST thing that could have happened because it was melt in your mouth delicious 😋 we both savored every bite and left unbelievably full and satisfied 😌 10 out of 10!!

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Taverna. From the moment we arrived, everything felt elevated but still relaxed, exactly what you want in Maui. First off, the free valet parking is such a nice touch. It immediately takes away the stress of finding a spot and sets the tone for an easy evening. The setting is beautiful, open, airy, and perfect for a laid-back but upscale dinner. It has that ideal Maui vibe where you can enjoy an incredible meal without feeling rushed or overly formal. Service was outstanding. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without hovering. Our drinks were fresh and perfectly made, you can tell they use quality ingredients and care about balance. For food, we started with the melon and goat cheese appetizer, and it was phenomenal. Light, refreshing, and beautifully plated, the sweetness of the melon paired perfectly with the creamy goat cheese. A great way to open the meal. The ceviche was incredibly fresh and bright, with clean flavors that really let the fish shine. And the lamb chops? Absolutely the star of the night. Perfectly cooked, tender, flavorful, and seasoned just right. If you go, do not skip the lamb chops. Overall, this place checks every box: great service, fresh drinks, beautiful atmosphere, and standout dishes. We would highly recommend Taverna to anyone looking for a memorable dinner in Maui. We’ll definitely be back.

I swear, there is something wrong with the tastebuds of the people leaving some of these reviews. The food was absolutely PHENOMENAL. It’s the type of food that you dream about having after you leave. All of the food was incredibly fresh with balanced flavours. And the meats just melts in your mouth. Their homemade Ube bread was absolutely delicious, and we couldn’t stop ordering the brussel sprout side dish! I’m already looking forward to going back in the future.

We were truly delighted by our experience at Taverna. Excellent food, excellent service, and an excellent atmosphere. We were seated at a table overlooking the picturesque golf course, which made the evening even more special. The service was attentive and friendly throughout. The place itself is warm, well-located, and beautifully designed. While the menu is priced slightly above average, it matches the quality of the culinary experience. Definitely worth it for the overall value. Highly recommended
