A Modern Take on Old Hawaii

Perched above the jagged cliffs of Kapalua, Cane & Canoe channels the essence of a traditional Hawaiian canoe house. The architecture—characterized by soaring peaked ceilings and rich, dark wood—mimics the structure of an open-air pavilion, blurring the line between the lush Maui greenery outside and the sophisticated dining room within.

Pacific Flavors Rooted in Island Heritage

The culinary philosophy here centers on a high-end, contemporary interpretation of local staples. You will find that Chef de Cuisine Peter Pahk’s influence lingers in the commitment to farm-to-table integrity. The macadamia-nut-crusted catch of the day is a standout, arriving with a buttery crispness that speaks to the freshness of the morning’s haul. Don't overlook the short rib, often braised for hours until it yields to the lightest touch of a fork, paired with island-grown vegetables that capture the terroir of the West Maui mountains.

Sipping as the Sun Dips

As the daylight fades over the Pacific, the atmosphere shifts from airy and bright to intimate and dimly lit. The bar program is formidable, offering craft cocktails that lean heavily on local pineapple, lilikoi, and premium spirits. It is the kind of place where you come for a celebratory milestone, though the soundtrack of clinking glassware and hushed conversations often swells, proving this spot is just as popular as it is bustling.

Be prepared for the walk from the valet; while the property is sprawling and impeccably landscaped, the hike from the parking area is part of the orientation to the resort's massive footprint. Whether you are seated on the terrace listening to the distant rhythm of the surf or tucked into a comfortable booth near the open kitchen, the experience is anchored in a deep respect for Hawaiian hospitality.

Food was good, fried rice was very good. Great view. Incredibly overpriced even for Hawaii. $36 for eggs Benedict is insane.

What can I say 2 exceptional restaurant reviews in one day, call it luck or just good research and impeccable timing. Mamas fish house for lunch and then Cane & Canoe for dinner. My bank account is lighter but I think i managed to have some great dining experiences today. The views are stunning of the Pacific Ocean and is located in the Montage Kapaula Bay, Maui. This is a romantic and very well decorated venue with stunning views. The service was outstanding and each person that approached the table was knowledgeable about the food and restated the menu items with descriptions and chef preparation again. Nice touch there. The Kapula sunset drink was delightful as I'm sure the views at sunset is there as well. The octopus 🐙 i ordered, my 2nd of the day was outstanding and in my opinion, better than Mama’s Fish House which also very good that I had for lunch. Maybe the difference was in the preparation. Also the chef recommended dish, Kahuku sweet corn agnolotti was just outstanding and can see why they won an award for it. Got the Fish of the moment which was wonderful and probably in top 5 fish dishes I've ever tried out. If there was one thing to critique would be the espresso martini, which the taste was just OK nothing spectacular and the 1st tell of a good one is the foam layer which was nonexistent. Thank you Cane & Canoe for a delicious and delightful evening that we'll be talking about for a very long time!!! Bonus, if you look at the last picture while not from restaurant it was not far away but you can see the whales off in the sunset blowing the water, enjoy all.

My fiance and I had breakfast here and both agreed it was one of our best meals in Maui. Everything was so fresh and well balanced. The egg white fritatta was delicious!

We loved everything. The food the atmosphere, our waitress Alex was very knowledgeable about the meals and had great personality. Food runners were also very courteous. The whole thing was very professional and our exit was graced by the chefs. Oh and the sunset view!

$500 bill for absolute garbage service. John our server had an awful attitude and was really awkward for no reason. He was incredibly rude and soured my mother’s birthday dinner. The food was average. Nobody came to talk to us about anything but they sent over 3 desserts to try and fix their crappy service. Food was okay. We eat at much more expensive places, don’t care about the $$$. Just wanted an acknowledgement from the manager and a different server. Would definitely pass at this price point.

Absolutely beautiful setting for breakfast. Our server was so knowledgeable about the menu and the island. The food was something special. The waffle showed how much time, care, and love were put into a simple dish. Lobster Benedict was superb. Can't wait to go back and will recommend to as many people as possible

Food was perfect! Starting with the sweet corn agnolotti with lobster, followed by fish of the moment (mahi mahi) and 48-hour wagyu short rib. We asked if we could order one glass of wine per course and split it for a paired tasting - “yes of course”! And it was our anniversary so they finished up with an amazing chocolate mousse cake with raspberry puree. Views were beautiful and romantic. Run don’t walk.

View and setting was amazing. Service was spotty. Asked for water a few times before getting it. Food was good. Tempura snapper was incredible. I would not get the baked Hawaiian next time. Unlike baked Alaska, the different components of the dessert don't really go well together.

Honestly, we were very surprised by how reasonable this restaurant was for breakfast. We tried to get into another local business but couldn't find parking. Cane and Canoe was right down the road and had plenty of room, complimentary valet parking, and a gorgeous view. It is tricky to find because it's inside the Montage Kapalua Bay resort on their lower level. You'll see signs for "reservations required" but that only applies to dinner service. We were seated right away without delay when we visited for breakfast and only a few tables were occupied when we arrived. It did slowly fill up though as we enjoyed our stay. The food was delicious. You won't be disappointed. Our server was nice enough but at one point all of the staff disappeared for quite a while and it was noticeable. It felt strange for a few moment but when they returned everything was back to normal. Overall a wonderful experience.
