Burger Shack
About
A Maui Open-Air Essential
Positioned right along the rugged coastline of Kapalua, this spot is less about white-tablecloth service and more about the salty breeze hitting your face while you wait for a burger. It is an ideal pit stop for those trekking between the nearby luxury resorts or coming off the golf course. You will find yourself ordering at a walk-up window, then grabbing a picnic table while the sound of crashing waves provides the natural soundtrack.
The Flavor Profile
The menu keeps things streamlined with a focus on high-quality beef and creative toppings that lean into the Hawaiian setting. The signature Shack Burger remains the crowd favorite, often topped with fresh avocado and bacon, providing a satisfying crunch that contrasts with the char-grilled flavor of the patty. Pair it with their hand-cut fries or a pineapple-infused milkshake that cuts through the tropical heat.
What to Expect
Be prepared for the casual nature of the experience; there is no formal seating, and during the peak lunch hours, the line can stretch out toward the pathway. Keep an eye out for local birds trying to scavenge crumbs near the tables—it is a common quirk of dining outdoors here. While the proximity to the ocean makes it one of the most picturesque places in West Maui to eat a burger, the sun can be intense at midday, so bring your sunglasses and stay hydrated while you soak in the panoramic vistas of Molokai across the channel.

This is a wonderful outdoor restaurant and we really did love it. I cannot give it five stars though. We had the noodle salad, which was good, but it was not what I would consider a five star salad. It was just lacking something. The service was fine, although I did not feel the aloha spirit at this restaurant. It wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t as friendly as some of the other places I have been to! I would definitely give them a four star rating though and if you’re in the area, it is definitely worth trying! The Mai Thai looked absolutely gorgeous and it tasted very good!!

It’s worth it — breathtaking views, great ambiance, amazing music, beautiful people, and an excellent menu. Yes, it’s pricey, but totally worth it. We visit from Chicago.

Unfortunately you will buy a milkshake and become addicted. We ate here twice during our stay at The Ritz and the food, service and views were always great!

Look, I'd give this place a one star, but the location is spectacular so it gets a 2 star for that. But honestly, don't come here for the food. $37 burger is crazy work, even for Hawaii. Cocktails are all minimum $20. The burger was fine? But not worth $37 in any crazy world. Service was shockingly bad for a ritz location. Oh and parking is $30 too. Save your money, go somewhere else.

The best meal after a nice walk along the costal trail! The Aloha Burger was delicious! The Noodle Salad was insane! So fresh, so good!! And of course the Oreo Shake was bomb! Our server was so great! Thanks Stacie for making our lunch so special.

We ate here twice during our trip to Maui while staying at the Ritz. Once for poke and once for a burger. Both times we also treated ourselves to a tasty milkshake. Do yourself a favor and skip the whipped cream as it’s not very tasty on the shake. The views for this little burger shack are nice, ocean views overlooking the local beach. If you’re staying at the Ritz and using their beach I’m sure you’ll enjoy a meal here.

The location here is fantastic, right on the water, beautiful views. It's a little tricky to get to, exit off highway 30 and followed the signs to DT Fleming Beach. The parking is not so good, there's a tiny lot that is free and almost always full. A somewhat bigger lot is across the street but they charge $35 to park. It's not so bad a deal if you're going to stay there all day and swim snorkel etc because the $35 covers 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but if you're only going for a burger, well ya know. The food is pricey around $30 to $39 for a burger and fries. However, the food is really outstanding. It's not quite as good as it was a couple of years ago, at that time I asked to be taken to the kitchen so I could give them a "my compliments to the chef!" It truly was the best burger I ever eaten in my life. Still really good now, not quite as seasoned and a bit smaller. But that's pretty much what everything in America is now. It is absolutely worth checking out, especially if you go for the whole day and enjoy the beautiful beach.

Delicious food right in front of the beach with great service. We ordered the fish tacos, which were delicious, and the chicken burger, which was also good. Definitely worth it for the view — a place we’ll be back to! Parking lot is paid.

Never eaten a burger with a better view! This spot is right on the ocean with stunning views of the water and islands. Burgers are huge so come with an appetite or split a burger with a friend. They were nice enough to cut our burger in half and even had the option of choosing two different sides ($3-ish extra charge for splitting). Fries were thick and crispy and the side salad was refreshing and a good portion. We ordered the Double Decker Burger which was super tall and juicy but really messy which wasn’t a problem for me but wouldn’t recommend on a first date… also tried the Oreo Cookie shake which was delicious and just what we expected. Someone in our group ordered the Hula Girl shake and said it tasted very tropical and came with an Almond Joy on top. We wanted to try the Royal Kona (coffee and chocolate chip cookie) shake but they ran out by the time we ordered (2:00pm on a Monday). Make a day of it by bringing beach chairs/snorkel gear and head to the water just below the restaurant after eating! It’s a pretty far walk from the Ritz Carlton, with walking shoes, it might be worth checking out the beautiful hotel up the hill. Our party of 6 plus a toddler was able to sit at a big table together and they brought out a high chair. Chickens and birds were running around everywhere which was great entertainment, especially for the toddler. Parking lot was pretty full, but we were able to find a spot quickly and QR code payment was easy. Great burgers, great location, great service!

We had heard great things about Burger Shack and wanted to try it ourselves. We were not disappointed. We had such a fun lunch eating burgers and drinking milkshakes. The views from the tables were outstanding and added to the ambiance. For a "shack" that serves burgers it wasn't cheap but it is on the Ritz Carlton property so we knew that going in. If you're looking for a good burger and shakes, then this should be a place for you to check out.
