A Mediterranean Escape in Wailea

Steps away from the golden sands of South Maui, Pita offers a refreshing departure from the island's typical heavy resort fare. The air inside carries the sharp, clean scent of fresh lemon, toasted cumin, and wood-fired dough. It is a no-frills, counter-service spot that prioritizes the crunch of a perfectly charred crust over formal white-tablecloth pretense.

The Flavor Profile

The kitchen leans into the classics with a local twist. Their signature falafel is herbaceous and vibrant, boasting a deep, golden-brown exterior that shatters upon impact, revealing a soft, bright green center. If you are craving protein, the chicken shawarma is seasoned with a proprietary spice blend that provides a warm, savory counterpoint to the cool, garlicky sting of their house-made tzatziki. Don't overlook the hummus—it is silky, generous with the tahini, and drizzled with olive oil that feels like a direct import from the Mediterranean.

The Practical Reality

This is the ideal landing spot for those coming straight off the beach in boardshorts or finishing a long morning of snorkeling. Keep in mind that seating is limited and can get cramped during the mid-day lunch rush, especially when the Wailea sun is at its peak. You might find yourself hovering near the door waiting for a table to open, but the trade-off is a fast-paced, high-energy environment that delivers food much faster than the surrounding luxury dining rooms. It’s a reliable, unpretentious anchor in a neighborhood known for extravagance.

The first time I ate here back in 2014 it was very good. In 2025, not so much. ATMOSPHERE: Quaint corner spot on the lower level of the Wailea Gateway Center strip mall, with a small and private outdoor area seating area with big umbrellas. The bistro's interior has a very warm look and feel, almost romantic even. RESERVATIONS: Recommended, but we got seated immediately at the bar. FOOD: Lamb Pasta No longer offered but damn, it was tasty. Hummus -n- Pita This was a tasty little app that's now extinct. Lamb Kabob I had high hopes of eating a delish kabob like we had in Istanbul, but this recipe needed a lot more seasoning. The meat was fairly tender. DESSERT: Baklava Ice Cream I love ice cream and loved this too. SERVICE: We sat at the bar and had excellent service.

We had the best meal of our trip to Maui at Pita Paradise! As vegetarians, it can sometimes be hard to find great options, but this place absolutely delivered. We started with the pesto pitza appetizer — the pesto was incredibly flavorful and paired perfectly with the fresh veggies. For the entrée, the eggplant arrabbiata pasta was the highlight of the night, with a rich, unique sauce full of eggplant and onions that gave it amazing flavor and texture. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails and local beers, all recommended by our server, and they were fantastic. On top of the amazing food, the ambience was beautiful, and the live music added a wonderful touch to the evening. Huge shoutout to our server — she was so kind, friendly, and her suggestions made the meal perfect. Can’t wait to come back here on our next visit to Maui. Highly recommend!

We visited on 23 July 2025. This time nothing much to share as we didn't take pictures of dishes & drinks we ordered and served, took pictures of menu only. We were huge numbers of people, more than 20. Their food are very tasty, their service is excellent. Menu has vast choices. I was able to take just menu pictures. It's worth visiting when you are in Kihei, HAWAII . Menu pictures are below 👇

The food and atmosphere at this restaurant are excellent. I started with the ziziki bread, which was delicious and a great way to begin the meal. I had Johnny’s Fresh Catch, featuring mahi mahi with Mediterranean slaw, and it was outstanding, especially with the spicy ziziki sauce. For any pitas that come with lettuce and tomato, I recommend substituting the Mediterranean slaw—it’s a great upgrade. The baklava ice cream cake for dessert was amazing, with fresh baklava, vanilla ice cream, and a honey drizzle that was even better than I expected.

Amazing fish and a great patio for lunch! I got the fresh catch dish, which was incredibly moist and tender shutome (swordfish). I didn’t realize it was going to be like a big pita sandwich, but I was surprised how much I liked it. Very nice area to sit outside.

We've tried several menu items, but gyros are by far our favorite. Unfortunately, they only serve them at lunch. Kids' kabobs are a good option. Burger was just ok, two small patties (well done when asked for medium). Lamb salad was well done ground lamb instead of sliced lamb. Gods platter is pretty good (it was cold once). Baklava cheese cake is amazing!

Fantastic restaurant with great food and service. I liked the decoration of the place. Creating very nice atmosphere. The service was great, quick and pleasant. They have indoor and outdoor seating areas, both of them were nice. Highly recommended.

Rather disappointed with food, the menu is limited and appealing, but the execution is very basic. The fish of the day was way too cooked (and way too expensive compared to meat, for 2 small skewers), the tuna tartare did not have any taste of tuna because of the amount of sauce. The outside is quite nice, though. And our waitress, Chloe, was fantastic.

The appetizers were amazing. Highly recommend the bruschetta. The flavors were extremely balanced and very rich. Fresh fish is usually pretty good. Recommend it on the skewers, you get bigger chunks that seem to be cooked more consistently. One of the orders at our table was a thin cut of the fish and seemed more overcooked and consequently drier. That was our only complaint, everything else was delicious. Nice little restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. Small patio, no view but plenty of fresh air. Servers and hostess both very friendly and professional. Wine was poured/presented correctly as one would expect with bottle service.
