About
A Taste of Old-School Waianae
Stepping into Waianae Meat Market feels like a true throwback to the days when the Leeward Coast moved at its own rhythm. This isn't your polished, high-concept boutique deli; it is a straightforward, functional pillar of the community where the scent of seasoned poke and marinated proteins hangs heavy in the air. If you are driving up the coast toward Makaha, this is the definitive pit stop for picnic supplies before hitting the beach.
Island Favorites Behind the Counter
The draw here is the butcher-counter selection, known for elevating local home cooking. Locals flock here for their seasoned kalbi short ribs and ready-to-grill meats that carry a distinct, island-style sweetness. Their poke selection changes with the morning catch, offering thick, salty cubes of ahi that taste exactly like the Pacific. It is the kind of place where the conversation between the staff and the regulars is just as vital as the order itself.
Practical Tips for Your Visit
Be prepared for the midday rush, especially on weekends when families load up coolers for beach days. Parking is a bit of a tight squeeze in the shared lot, so keep your eyes peeled for a spot rather than expecting a wide-open space. The space is small and functional, emphasizing the grab-and-go nature of a proper local butcher shop rather than a sit-down dining experience. If you want to eat like a resident of the Wai'anae community—skipping the tourist traps in favor of quality protein—this is your primary destination.

So I just moved to the west side after growing up on farms my whole life. The last five years were spent living in town, where buying bulk meat was extremely difficult, and if it were possible the selections were nasty. I missed being able to go into a dedicated butcher shop and being able to get all sorts of hard to find cuts and whole chicken in bulk. Staff was extremely polite even though I asked weird questions like what's the maximum amount of chickens I can buy at a time? And they were informative about their policies and how I could get all my chicken. Pricing is also extremely good. I will definitely buy all of my meats from here now on.
