Kahumana Organic Farms & Cafe
About
Freshness Rooted in the Waianae Valley
Tucked away where the sun hits the Leeward Coast, Kahumana Organic Farms & Cafe is less of a restaurant and more of a pilgrimage for those who want their dinner picked the same day it hits their plate. The air here smells like damp earth, sun-warmed kale, and the faint, sweet scent of tropical flowers swaying in the mountain breeze.
The Field-to-Fork Philosophy
This isn't just locally sourced; it is literally grown on the property. Chef and his team anchor the menu around whatever the harvest yields that week, featuring staples like their famous lilikoi-glazed chicken or vibrant salads that make grocery store greens feel like cardboard. You’ll hear the hum of bees and the rustle of workers tending the rows while you sit on the open-air patio, watching the shadows lengthen against the jagged ridges of the Waianae range.
What to Expect
The service is casual, unpretentious, and reflective of the laid-back rhythm of the coast. Expect the seating to feel like a backyard dinner party—relaxed, communal, and sometimes a bit breezy. Parking can be a bit of a scramble on busier weekend brunch sessions, and the gravel path leading up might kick up a little dust, but that’s all part of the charm of eating on a working farm.
It is the ideal spot for families looking to show kids where food actually comes from, or for those who need a quiet escape from the bustle of Honolulu to reconnect with nature. Come for the honest, vibrant ingredients; stay for the feeling of being miles away from the tourist path, deep in the heart of Hawaii’s agricultural roots.

Knowing we wanted to visit a bee farm, we chose this farm not really knowing the differences of the few tours available here on Oahu. We were pleasantly surprised with the layout of the property at the owner's residence and its history, the abundance of fruit trees, the knowledge of the beekeepers, and the products available by Hanai Hives. We were given a very personal tour, including hands-on as we were dressed in our suits, every question we had was thoughtfully answered and we enjoyed a delicious sampling of the honey produced on location, to include original, Roselle, Cinnamon, Hawaiian Pepper and lavendar along with a tray of cheese, toast, and apples. Although competitively priced, I feel the cost was slightly high....BUT you are not touring with a group of strangers either. I would still recommend friends and family who are visiting the island to make the trip out to Hanai Hives. I intend to visit again to take advantage of their U-pick fruit! The farm offers soursop, calamansi, avocados, and bananas, just to name a few! Loved it!

This was honestly one of the best experiences from our trip to Oahu. My husband and I booked this experience on a whim, we’ve talked about getting into beekeeping and had been looking for an introduction so when we found it we instantly decided to book it. Katie was beyond amazing and exceeded everything we could hope for. The tours are private so she customizes everything to your level of experience and interest. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of her stunning property and the wealth of knowledge she passed down to us. Being able to see the hives and bees in their habitat was so magical and the honey tasting was absolutely delicious. I cannot recommend Katie and her apiary enough, this is something we will rave about for years.

The bee tour today was incredible. Our guide was knowledgeable, patiently answered all of our questions, and made us feel safe every step of the way. After the tour, we snacked on their honey and relaxed under the canopy of trees. Each honey flavor was unique and delightful. Special shout out to the spicy pepper honey and whipped honey. We highly recommend everyone check out Hanai Hives!

Katie and her team were absolutely amazing during our tour today. We had a pretty big group including a toddler and they were so accommodating. Even though our toddler got tired and a little cranky they continued to be sweet and encouraging for her and didn’t make us feel bad. The tour was so informative and yet fun too. Katie is truly passionate about her beekeeping and she has clearly passed that passion on to those who help her. She took pictures of everyone in our group and shared them with us at the end when we sat down to enjoy some of the honey with a beautiful charcuterie board and some ice cold water at no extra charge. This is an activity that seems pricey on the surface until you experience it. It was worth every penny!! Thank you Katie for an amazing experience!!

We had such a great experience at Hanai Hives! The bee tour was fascinating and so well done. Katie was absolutely wonderful! She has such a passion for bees, and it really shows in the way she educates and speaks about them. The property itself is beautiful, and getting to see the beekeeping process up close was such a unique and memorable experience. The honey was also delicious! I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for something different and special to do.

This tour was great. If you are in the area I highly recommend booking some tours at the ranch. We did three tours, and they were all phenomenal. We had kids ages 9,11,13,16 and they all had a blast and we're entertained the whole time!

Hidden gem on the west side. The food is farm fresh and delicious. The presentation is also quite impressive. Great, friendly service in a quiet setting. They recently opened for dinner on Saturdays, and they allow you to BYOB. This is a very special place.

My mom and I loved our Hanai Hives tour! This is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. We felt like we were visiting a long time friend's home, spending the afternoon helping out in the hives and sampling honey (don't sleep on the hot honey made with Hawaiian chili peppers!). I especially liked that this tour is private for your group only, not a dozen strangers crowding around one another trying to see what's going on. Katie was amazing and extremely knowledgeable - we loved taking it all in!

My family and I recently had the pleasure of visiting Hānai Hives on the North Shore, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. This beautiful, sacred place dedicated to the wellbeing of bees is a haven of natural beauty and tranquility. During our farm tour, we learned so much about these incredible pollinators — from their vital role in the ecosystem to the intricate workings of the hive. We even had the chance to suit up, check out the apiary and search for the queen bee, which was a fascinating highlight. Tasting the fresh honey and delicious homegrown fruit from the farm added an extra layer of connection to nature that we all thoroughly enjoyed. Aunty Katie was an incredible host — patient, generous, and full of knowledge. She took her time answering our questions and made us feel welcome and inspired. Her passion for bees and the 'āina truly shines through, making the experience both meaningful and educational. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to connect with nature, learn about bees, and create lasting memories with family and friends! 🐝🍯♥️😋

Lilikoi cheesecake was bomb. I also had the special Mahi Mahi with mango sauce and it was great. 9yo had house pizza which didn’t look like traditional pizza so I was worried she’d refuse it, but she ate the whole thing. Entrees come with a nice fresh green salad.
