Uptown
About
A Taste of Upcountry Meets the North Shore
Stepping into Uptown in Paia is a reminder of why Maui’s north shore retains such a distinct, bohemian charm. Located right along the Hana Highway, this spot captures the breezy, salt-air energy of the town. You will find yourself surrounded by reclaimed wood accents and an open-air flow that invites the steady breeze of the trade winds to cool your afternoon lunch or evening meal.
The Culinary Approach
Chef-driven and focused on the harvest of the islands, the menu at Uptown highlights the intersection of local agriculture and Pacific Rim techniques. The signature ahi poke bowl is a standout, featuring line-caught tuna that arrives with the telltale firmness of daily freshness. For those who enjoy a complex plate, the pan-seared mahi-mahi often comes paired with locally sourced purple sweet potato puree and a ginger-lime reduction that cuts through the richness of the fish. You can hear the kitchen staff working with intensity, the rhythmic chopping of fresh herbs adding to the lively soundtrack of a busy Paia afternoon.
What to Expect
The energy here leans casual but intentional. It is the perfect stop for post-surf refueling or a relaxed dinner before exploring the local art galleries. Be prepared for the reality of Paia’s popularity; parking can be a bit of a dance during peak hours, and the dining room carries the hum of enthusiastic travelers and locals alike. It is loud in a communal, happy way, making it ideal for groups who don’t mind a bit of noise while they dig into fresh, island-inspired plates. Whether you are grabbing a quick bite before the drive to Hana or settling in for a long sunset dinner, Uptown brings a refined touch to the rugged, authentic vibe that defines the North Shore.

This is *the* place. Yummy, extra fresh, very fast and served with aloha. Best fish salad I probably ever had - just order garden or Caesar with any of the fish. I tried them all - this place became a daily during my stay! My favorites were Cajun mahi and blackened opakipaki.

We took our family of four on this trip and had an amazing time. Our 11- and 8-year-old kids had an absolute blast. The seas were a little rough that day, but the crew was attentive and quickly helped our youngest before it became an issue. One of the biggest advantages was the short 15–20 minute ride to Molokini Crater. Compared to other charters with much longer trips, this made a huge difference. I tend to get seasick easily, but I had no problems thanks to the shorter ride. Once we arrived, the water was incredibly clear, and we saw an amazing variety of fish. The reef was beautiful, and snorkeling there was an unforgettable experience for our whole family. The crew was friendly, professional, and always willing to help. They also served a delicious three-course breakfast throughout the trip, which was a great bonus. Everything about the experience was fantastic. If you're visiting Maui, Kai Kanani should be at the top of your list. We would absolutely book with them again.

Simple and fresh food. Well worth a visit if you plan on doing the road to hana. I wouldn't say the service was exceptional, but it wasn't bad either. I think the pricing was very fair for the food served. Would recommend.

This was recommended by so many people & there’s always a queue - goes down fast though. It was nice but I thought it was abit overhyped. The fish was quite dry but collectively as a dish with the rice & coleslaw, it was satisfying. Tacos were decent

You walk up to the counter and order which fish and how you want it with a sides, get a drink and pick a table to sit at. They bring out some of the best food I had all week in Maui. It was delicious and so flavorful. You’re not going to be wined and dined but the food is very tasty. I highly recommend you take the time to eat here. The small town of Paia is very cute also. Spend some time in the shops and get lost here.

Had an excellent meal at Paia FishMarket during our visit to Maui. The highlight was definitely the blackened Mahi Mahi! perfectly seasoned, incredibly fresh, and cooked just right with a flavorful crust that brought out the natural taste of the fish. The portions were generous, the service was quick, and the casual island atmosphere made for a great dining experience. If you’re looking for fresh seafood in Maui, this place is absolutely worth a visit. I’ll definitely be back for that blackened Mahi Mahi!

Our sunrise tour with Kai Kanani Sailing was an absolutely magical experience from start to finish. We were fortunate enough to see an incredible amount of sea life, including seals, dolphins, rays, turtles, and a vibrant variety of tropical fish. The morning was perfectly paced with plenty of hydration provided and a delicious spread of food. The conditions were ideal with gentle, soothing waves that made for a relaxing sail. What truly set this excursion apart was the crew; they were incredibly knowledgeable about the local area and provided a level of hospitality that made us feel completely at home on the water. I cannot recommend this tour enough for anyone looking for a memorable Hawaiian adventure!

Wonderful fast food fish in downtown Paia. If you're on the road to Hana or on your way back make sure to stop here for dinner or lunch. They got a great selection of cider beer and wine. We have the Ono Burger and fried calamari appetizer, both were delicious and good serving sizes. I'd recommend parking at the Paia municipal lot down the street or on the street.

I tried their fish tacos and calamari. My mom got their pasta. All the food was great! I know this sounds silly but I also enjoyed the fountain Diet Coke drink. A nice cold fountain drink is hard to come by in Hawaii. You order you food at the counter and the bring you your food. There was a little line but it went quick and they got the food out quick too. I would definitely go back.

Tried Paia Fish Market today for lunch and the food was amazing! I ordered a seafood salad with the garden salad option, Caesar dressing on the side, and mahi-mahi. The fish was perfectly cooked, wonderfully seasoned, and so flavorful. The salad was super fresh with crisp, healthy vegetables. I also got a side of deep-fried shrimp, which was phenomenal, crispy, light, and not greasy at all. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying, and the portion sizes are generous, so I even had leftovers to take home. Definitely a spot I’d come back to!
