A Sweet Escape in the Heart of Paia

Tucked away on Maui’s North Shore, Sweet Ninja offers a refreshing departure from the standard island snack shack. The air here carries the distinct scent of toasted coconut and dark cocoa, grounding you in a space that feels more like a creative laboratory than a traditional bakeshop. Whether you are coming off a long day of surfing at Hookipa or just wandering through the colorful boutiques of town, this is the destination for those who appreciate precision in their pastries.

The Art of the Craft

This local favorite has built its reputation on an uncompromising approach to quality. The menu favors seasonal, locally sourced ingredients that reflect the vibrant agricultural bounty of Upcountry Maui. Expect to find rotating signature items like their dense, fudgy brownies or delicate mochi treats that bridge the gap between traditional Japanese influence and contemporary flair. You will hear the rhythmic clatter of the espresso machine and the soft hum of the North Shore breeze, creating a soundtrack that makes it easy to lose track of time.

What to Expect

The shop is compact, which means seating is limited—be prepared to grab your treats to-go for a beachside picnic. It is the kind of place where the staff remembers your preference, adding a layer of community warmth that defines the Paia dining scene. It is perfect for a mid-afternoon sugar fix or picking up a box of artisanal goods before heading toward Hana. Don't be surprised if you find yourself waiting in a short line during the peak afternoon rush; the quality is worth the minor squeeze.

This is *the* place. Yummy, extra fresh, very fast and served with aloha. Best fish salad I probably ever had - just order garden or Caesar with any of the fish. I tried them all - this place became a daily during my stay! My favorites were Cajun mahi and blackened opakipaki.

Simple and fresh food. Well worth a visit if you plan on doing the road to hana. I wouldn't say the service was exceptional, but it wasn't bad either. I think the pricing was very fair for the food served. Would recommend.

This was recommended by so many people & there’s always a queue - goes down fast though. It was nice but I thought it was abit overhyped. The fish was quite dry but collectively as a dish with the rice & coleslaw, it was satisfying. Tacos were decent

You walk up to the counter and order which fish and how you want it with a sides, get a drink and pick a table to sit at. They bring out some of the best food I had all week in Maui. It was delicious and so flavorful. You’re not going to be wined and dined but the food is very tasty. I highly recommend you take the time to eat here. The small town of Paia is very cute also. Spend some time in the shops and get lost here.

Had an excellent meal at Paia FishMarket during our visit to Maui. The highlight was definitely the blackened Mahi Mahi! perfectly seasoned, incredibly fresh, and cooked just right with a flavorful crust that brought out the natural taste of the fish. The portions were generous, the service was quick, and the casual island atmosphere made for a great dining experience. If you’re looking for fresh seafood in Maui, this place is absolutely worth a visit. I’ll definitely be back for that blackened Mahi Mahi!

Wonderful fast food fish in downtown Paia. If you're on the road to Hana or on your way back make sure to stop here for dinner or lunch. They got a great selection of cider beer and wine. We have the Ono Burger and fried calamari appetizer, both were delicious and good serving sizes. I'd recommend parking at the Paia municipal lot down the street or on the street.

I tried their fish tacos and calamari. My mom got their pasta. All the food was great! I know this sounds silly but I also enjoyed the fountain Diet Coke drink. A nice cold fountain drink is hard to come by in Hawaii. You order you food at the counter and the bring you your food. There was a little line but it went quick and they got the food out quick too. I would definitely go back.

Tried Paia Fish Market today for lunch and the food was amazing! I ordered a seafood salad with the garden salad option, Caesar dressing on the side, and mahi-mahi. The fish was perfectly cooked, wonderfully seasoned, and so flavorful. The salad was super fresh with crisp, healthy vegetables. I also got a side of deep-fried shrimp, which was phenomenal, crispy, light, and not greasy at all. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying, and the portion sizes are generous, so I even had leftovers to take home. Definitely a spot I’d come back to!

First time visiting Maui (and Hawaii) with family. We stopped by Paia Fish Market the day before my half marathon for a solid, no-frills meal to carb-load — normally I’d go for pasta, but decided to switch it up with seafood instead. There was a short line, but it moved quickly. I ordered the charbroiled mahi mahi (or ono) burger with a garden salad. Others at the table ordered fresh catch plates (mahi mahi and ono, sautéed and charbroiled) with Cajun rice, plus the seafood pasta. We shared everything family-style. The seafood pasta was very rich and heavy — glad I didn’t order it myself. The fish burger was good overall. The fish itself was fairly mild, but it paired well with the sauce, lettuce, and tomato, making for a satisfying meal. Overall, solid seafood and a reliable stop in Paia. Not the closest location to where we were staying, but clearly the most popular — and for good reason. I finished my plate, felt great the next morning, and placed 4th overall in my race, so no complaints. Last visited: January 17, 2026

We were there for a late lunch. The food was good and unique as I had never eaten a ahi burger before. It was good and odd at the same time. The burger had cold slaw on it as well which was gave it a crispy and tasty touch. My wife had fish tacos with cubed fried potatoes and rice. I tried hers as well and it was very good. Have to love crispy cold slaw! The staff was friendly and prompt. There was plenty of seating pic nic style tables. Out door seating as well. Seems like a great place for casual dining occasions. Plenty of parking around back.
