Lima Cocina + Cantina
About
A Peruvian Escape on Maui’s North Shore
Stepping into Lima Cocina + Cantina brings a vibrant slice of South America to the heart of Paia. This open-air spot captures the laid-back energy of the North Shore, where the salt air mingles with the zesty, citrus-forward aroma of fresh lime and cilantro. It is the kind of place where you can trade your surfboard for a stool and settle in for a meal that feels both sophisticated and refreshingly unpretentious.
Signature Flavors of the Andes
The kitchen leans hard into tradition, anchoring its menu in the art of the perfect ceviche. You will find the fresh catch of the day marinated in authentic leche de tigre, delivering that signature acidic bite that defines true Peruvian cuisine. Don’t overlook the Lomo Saltado; the stir-fry technique adds a smoky, wok-charred depth to the beef that pairs perfectly with the house-made aji amarillo sauce. It is bold, bright, and deeply satisfying after a day spent chasing swells.
The North Shore Experience
The space is built for those who appreciate a casual, social atmosphere. Expect to hear the rhythmic clinking of pisco sours being shaken behind the bar and the lively chatter of locals and travelers alike. Keep in mind that seating is communal and the room can get quite energetic during the dinner rush, so it is better suited for a high-energy group hangout than a quiet, candlelit date. If you find yourself wandering through Paia looking for something beyond the standard island fare, this corner of town offers a distinct, flavorful change of pace that stays with you long after the final bite.

**As a Peruvian, I was really looking forward to trying the ceviche here, especially after having one of the best ceviches in Oahu recently. Unfortunately, this place didn't quite match that level.** The **ceviche** was a big letdown. The lime flavor was so bitter and overpowering that it masked any potential seasoning — honestly, it didn’t even taste like it had any. The fish quality itself was actually good, but the flavors just didn’t come together well at all. On top of that, the portioning was disappointing — the amount of **corn** was a sliver, and they gave me just **one slice of sweet potato**, which felt unbalanced. Trying to salvage the experience, I ordered the **Papa a la Huancaína**, thinking I could make my own Leche de Tigre with it. But $20 for that? It was the **thickest, chunkiest** version of the dish I’ve ever had — not smooth or well-prepared. The **only saving grace** was the Lomo Saltado burrito . It was flavorful and actually pretty good. If I had to rate the ceviche alone, I’d give it maybe a **2 out of 5**, and that’s purely for the quality of the fish. **Overall, I’d only recommend coming here for the Lomo Saltado burrito — definitely not for the ceviche.** Would you like a shorter version or something tailored for Yelp or Google reviews?

I love coming into Lima. Whether I want a cocktail, food, or dancing, it’s the best spot in Paia. Today Connie was great! I also just love Travis and Justin. The staff is what really makes this place. Mahalo!

We had a nice dinner at this Peruvian restaurant. The waitress who served us was very kind and attentive, and the food was good. However, our experience was ruined at the end by another staff member, possibly the manager. After finishing dinner, we noticed there was a bachata class happening on the other side of the restaurant. Before leaving, I briefly showed my husband the basic bachata step in that area — completely unrelated to the class and only for a moment. This staff member approached us in a very rude manner and told us that if we were not going to pay for the class or use the dance area, we had to leave immediately. At the same time, he picked up the tip we had left on the table. It was an unnecessarily unpleasant way to treat customers and it completely spoiled what had otherwise been a good experience.

Connie is amazing! Love her very outgoing & welcoming personality. We stopped in Saturday night for a round of drinks and ended up staying a while chatting with Connie! They had music playing until late & a very social atmosphere! She killed it behind the bar and still kept a very positive attitude when it started to get a little busy. We did not eat here so I did not rate the food but the drinks she made us were 10/10!

Connie was our server and bartender and she was so friendly and helpful. Loved the drinks and the menu options. My husband had the burrito and I had the taco board. Great food and atmosphere. Would definitely recommend for people visiting the Paia area. Thank you Lima!

This is a nice local Peruvian restaurant everyone should try. The menu had a decent amount of items, but check it out first to make sure it has what you like. There's a couple things I wanted that they didnt have. Howeevr, what we ate was really good. We had some chips with guacamole and green chile salsa..yumm. we also had a very good plate of arroz con pollo, Slightly different than what you may make at home, but really good.

A friend of mine just started a monthly house music party here, and I was honored to be his/their first DJ. Surprisingly good sound and equipment, and it was great to see what Lima has done to revitalize the space (I forget what it was before?). I arrived early with some friends to eat dinner and check out the menu. The service was excellent (y muchos gentes habla espanol), and their food menu reminded me of the month I spent in Peru (super authentic minus the alpaca and guinea pigs, which I was frankly happy to NOT see on the menu). Great modern and slightly Americanized take on some Peruvian classics, like various cerviches (including a delicious vegan option), lomo saltado, and lomo saltado tacos. Their pisco sours are fantastic and so good that I only drank those the entire night. I had them from two bartenders but definitely had a favorite and suggest trying multiple bartenders to see if one of them has a pisco sour style you like more. The vibes and people were lovely, and I will 100% be back the next time I visit Maui. So grateful to the staff for taking such amazing care of us all night 🙏❤️

Went here for drinks and dessert. We got the Peruvian Fizz and the Lilikoi mojito. And then the churros. The drinks were fantastic. We'll get them again. And the churros were the best all time, for me. Freshly fried cinnamon goodness - served with a scoop of coconut ice cream and a scoop of lilikoi ice cream. And our servers were great as well! WE LOVED LIMA COCINA + CANTINA and we will for sure come back!

Nice Restaurant! The service was excellent, and our waiter answered all our questions and recommended some great dishes. We started with the Guacamole and Ceviche—both appetizers were refreshing and delicious. For the main courses, we ordered the Taco Board Asado, Tallarín Salteado, and Pescado con Mantequilla y Ajo. I highly recommend the Pescado con Mantequilla y Ajo—the Mahi Mahi was incredibly tender and buttery. The stir-fried noodles were also very good, with a generous portion of chicken. As for the Taco Board, as you can see, it's really big! I’d recommend ordering it for two people.

Best margarita on the island! Everything was top notch and amazingly good. Personally.... I love a great margarita, and it's surprisingly difficult to find a good one on Maui.. but wow... The margarita the bartender made was AMAZING. Food was great also and full of great flavor. Definitely recommended!
