Hana Hou Surf Club
About
Where Paia Locals Grab a Bite
Stepping into Hana Hou Surf Club feels like catching the end of a long day at Ho'okipa. Tucked away on the windward side of Maui, this spot ditches the resort polish for a raw, salt-crusted energy that resonates with serious surfers and road-tripping travelers alike. The sound of clinking glasses often competes with the low hum of classic rock and the distant rush of the North Shore swell.
Island Flavors and Surf Traditions
This isn't your average tourist stop. The menu leans into local comfort food, highlighting fresh catches pulled straight from Pacific waters. You’ll find the plate lunches hit that specific post-surf hunger gap with generous portions of kalua pork and sticky rice that tastes like home. The kitchen staff doesn't hide their craft; you can smell the smoky char of the grill from the moment you step through the screen door.
The North Shore State of Mind
The space is built for lingering. With its weathered wood textures and memorabilia plastered across the walls, it serves as an unofficial museum of local board-riding history. It is the perfect venue for anyone looking to escape the polished storefronts of Hana Highway. Just a heads up: the seating is cozy and communal, so don’t be surprised if you end up sharing a table—and a story or two—with a local fisherman or a pro rider drying off their gear. Parking in this part of town requires a bit of patience, but the atmosphere inside makes the hunt for a spot worth the effort. Whether you are fueling up before a trek to the waterfalls or cooling down after a session, Hana Hou represents the unpretentious heart of Maui’s surf community.

Nice location, nice staff but a small kitchen with incredibly slow service. Took 15mins to order with only 4 people in front of me then 30+ mins for a Açai bowl. Food was good but unless you have at least an hour to kill, probably not worth visiting.

Super overpriced for mediocre food. Only reason we went was because they were open on Christmas.

Sorry, but we didn't like it. But the staff was super friendly though. We went there for late lunch last Sunday. There was a musician playing so loud through his amplified speaker that we couldn't hear the staff person when we ordered and we couldn't hear ourselves talking. We had the taco plate with fish and pork. The pork was burned black and un-eatable. The fish was ok. Somehow we read about a different menu online than what we saw when we arrived there.

Very cute cafe! Ordered the Hana bowl which is like a normal açaí bowl and the rice and eggs with sausage. It was all delicious. The acai bowl tasted super fresh and the sausage was amazing. Great vibes here!
