Belle Surf Cafe & Lounge
About
Morning Rituals in the Heart of Paia
When you pull off the Hana Highway and into the breezy streets of Paia, the scent of freshly ground beans draws you toward Belle Surf Cafe. This spot captures the quintessential North Shore pace—slow, intentional, and centered around quality caffeine. Whether you are prepping for a morning session at Ho’okipa or winding down after exploring the jungle road, the cafe acts as a community anchor for both locals and travelers.
The French-Inspired Surf Culture
Unlike the typical grab-and-go juice stands common in Maui, this cafe leans into a French-inspired approach to the surf lifestyle. You will find their lattes served with meticulous micro-foam, a stark contrast to the rugged, salt-sprayed surf boards leaning against the walls. The interior is bright, airy, and functional, making it an ideal workspace for digital nomads or a quick pit stop before hitting the sand.
Menu Highlights and Local Flair
The menu favors European-style pastries and savory crepes that pair perfectly with their robust coffee program. If you arrive mid-morning, look for the smoked salmon crepe, which offers a savory balance to their selection of rich, dark roast blends. The space is relatively compact, so be prepared to share the communal tables with fellow island explorers—a quirk that usually leads to spontaneous conversations about swell reports or the best hidden waterfalls to visit nearby.
Practical Tips for Your Visit
Parking in this historic town can be a competitive sport, so try to snag a spot near the municipal lot if the front street feels congested. Once you settle in, the ambient clatter of the espresso machine and the soft hum of conversation create an energetic backdrop that feels distinctly Paia. It’s the kind of place where you come for a quick espresso but end up staying an extra hour just to watch the town wake up.

Let’s be real. The ambient of the place is really nice. Very alive… however the coffee was mediocre and a bit burnt. Matcha iced latte was okay. The lady who attended us was really nice though.

If you’re hoping for a fun night out, don’t waste your time. I paid a $20 cover for a mediocre DJ who only played until 11 PM, even though we were told the music would go until midnight. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all; overrated, overpriced, and not worth the money.

Disappointing experience - major cleanliness and food quality issues Rating: & & *** (или 1 звезда, на ваше усмотрение) My friend and I decided to give this place a chance despite reading some negative reviews about their cleanliness, but unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. Almost everything we encountered had issues: 1. Hygiene: The tables were noticeably sticky, and to make matters worse, we were handed a dirty fork. 2. Drinks: The coffee tasted completely burnt and bitter. The matcha was no better - extremely bitter and poorly prepared. 3. Food: We ordered the avocado toast expecting real, fresh avocado, but it tasted like cheap, packaged, store-bought guacamole. Definitely not worth it. The only saving grace of this visit was the girl who served us - she was very sweet, pleasant, and provided good service. Sadly, the food and drinks were completely unappetizing.

We stopped in the boutique out front and saw the sign for taco Tuesdays so we knew we had to come back! And it did not disappoint. Chips and guac were 10/10, and the tacos were juicy and delicious as well! Cute vibes, yummy food, stellar staff.

The dark mocha was really tasty. I had a basic breakfast and it was all pretty tasty. It was nice and quiet when my partner and I went in there. It is counter service style and bus your own table when finished. And the staff was good at wiping down tables and prompt with the food and drinks. I definitely recommend this place if your looking for a good quick calm atmosphere meal. And their menu is full availability despite the time.

Plastic plants all over the place ugly and dirty. I do not recommend this place at all. The corner cafe across the street is a great option. I do not recommend this place.

We popped in during a rainy day just to get some tea and hang out for a bit. Our barista was so sweet and even got us hot water for a tea refill. We didn’t eat this time around but all their food options sounded amazing and looked really yummy at other tables. Perfect little hangout spot hidden away.

In our small sampling of coffee shops on Maui, this was the best pull of espresso by far. The savory crepes were also delicious. The seating was quite comfortable: we chose the velvet bar stools and ate at a raised counter down the middle of the dining area. Service was slow but friendly (I think they were short a person that day).

Went here for Breakfast and Dinner. Great iced caramel macchiato and acai bowls. Sushi night was awesome. Second to best sushi I've ever had! 👌🏻Cocktails here are most preferable to others in Paia.
