Pukalani Country Club
About
Upcountry Golf Course Dining
Sitting high on the slopes of Haleakalā, the Pukalani Country Club offers a rare vantage point where you can watch the clouds roll across the central Maui isthmus while enjoying a cold beverage. This isn't your typical white-tablecloth establishment; it is a relaxed, open-air clubhouse environment that serves as a community anchor for the residents of Makawao and the surrounding Pukalani hillsides.
Savoring the Slopes
The menu leans heavily into local comfort food, perfect for refueling after 18 holes or for a laid-back weekend lunch. You will find classic island-style pupus, hearty breakfast plates, and daily specials that emphasize local produce grown right here in the fertile Upcountry soil. The sound of clinking glasses and the steady hum of golfers recounting their round creates a nostalgic, unpretentious atmosphere that feels like stepping back into old-school Hawaii.
What to Expect
This spot is best for those who prefer panoramic views and a breezy, casual setting over a formal dining room. It attracts a mix of local families, golf enthusiasts, and visitors looking for a quiet escape from the tourist-heavy resort corridors. Keep in mind that the mountain weather can shift quickly; even on a sunny day, the breeze coming off the mountain can be brisk, so bringing a light jacket is a smart move. The parking lot is straightforward, though it can get quite busy during weekend tournaments, so allow yourself a few extra minutes to find a spot before your reservation.

Well maintained moderately challenging course with friendly staff and good food in the clubhouse. There was an issue with the booking online with clubs and the round from a 3rd party. Rather than making it my issue the pro shop dealt with it for me, which I really appreciated. Above and beyond in my opinion. I would highly recommend checking it out, very affordable and everything in the pro shop was 40-60 precent off.

This is a nice course, the course is in very good condition. Greens in great shape, they actual had rough, fairways were in great shape too. We were foursome ranging from extreme beginner to 10 handicap. We paid $69 on golf now, one day in advance. The staff and pro shop while small gets the job done and extremely nice. They were glad we used our sand bottles for divots. Would definitely play here again.

Unbelievable golf course! The scenery is next to none and holes are super fun! We came back here 3 times in the week we stayed on Maui. We drove over from Wailea and it was well worth. It’s a no frills course but it’s cost effective and stunning. Bay views of both side of the island at multiple holes, it’s so lush. The other courses are much more dry. This is definitely going to be a mainstay for us.

Horrible place to play! Don’t waste one of your vacation days playing here! Course was in bad shape and overpriced for what you get. A few holes had nice views to be fair. For less money you can play other golf courses that are very well kept and have a much better golfing experience.

Course was in pretty good shape. Some of the fairways weren’t as clean and a bit patchy. The greens were in great shape. For the price I think it’s a great course.

Had a fun round at Pukalani! If you’re expecting Wailea level greens and service, go back down to Wailea. Super laid back and affordable - we paid around $150 for green fees (18 holes), shared cart and rental clubs for two. We arrived quite early which gave us time to hit a few balls at the driving range (only takes $1 bills, $3 for small basket and $6 for large basket of balls). Rental clubs were good (I think, I’m a newbie - they were TaylorMade). There was a drink cart on course or you could stop in at the clubhouse after the 9th hole. Super cute Muscovy ducks near the pond on the back nine. Water stations and a few toilets scattered throughout. Great views and the greens were running fast today, noticed some people say it’s slow. Would play again!

Pukalani country club is a great round of golf for a very great price. Beautiful scenery many exciting holes higher up in the elevation and get to see beautiful views with every hole. Any golfer would have a great round and a great time playing on this course. They also have a very nice driving range to warm up before your round. Recommend to anyone that comes on vacation or a local to play the course.
