Bev Gannon Restaurants
About
Upcountry Culinary Roots
In the heart of historic Makawao, Bev Gannon’s establishments stand as pillars of Maui’s farm-to-table movement. Long before modern foraging became a trend, Gannon was championing local Maui cattle ranchers and independent farmers, shaping the flavor profile of Upcountry cuisine. Stepping into one of these venues feels less like a corporate dining experience and more like a high-end extension of a rustic ranch kitchen.
The Upcountry Atmosphere
The vibe here is quintessentially Makawao—relaxed but refined. You will hear the gentle hum of conversations against a backdrop of wooden architecture that pays homage to the town's paniolo history. It’s the kind of place where locals linger over iced tea while sunlight filters through the trees, though keep in mind that parking on the narrow streets of this hillside town requires a bit of patience.
Signature Flavors
The culinary identity is anchored by bold, island-inspired dishes that highlight fresh catches and locally sourced proteins. You’ll find the menu reflects Gannon’s legendary approach to Pacific Rim cuisine, often featuring her famous crab cakes or slow-roasted meats that define the comfort food culture of the island. The aroma of citrus-infused glazes and grilled ingredients often drifts out to greet passersby on the sidewalk.
Whether you are looking for an intimate dinner or a spirited lunch with friends, these restaurants capture the essence of life on the slopes of Haleakalā. It is an essential stop for those who value authentic, ingredient-driven cooking served in a space that feels deeply connected to the surrounding community.

One of our favorite meals while in Maui. My party of 5 stopped by here after the pineapple farm tour and we all enjoyed the service as well as the food. Everything we ordered was excellent: from the fish and chips, kahlua pork enchiladas, buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, pineapple upside down cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and the banana cheesecake. Do yourself a favor and stop by here.

What a wonderful gem in the hills of Maui!! Situated adjacent to a Pineapple farm, this restaurant is as good as it gets!! I started with a hand crafted spin on a Margarita made by Wendy at the bar while we had our appetizer of pork belly bao buns. They were delicious, sweet and savory, accompanied with a candied ginger coleslaw. My main course was the macadamia nut crusted Mahi mshi, while my wife got the lemon chicken. Both dishes were out of this world delicious!!! We finished the evening with banana cheesecake, and chocolate ganache cake. The service by our waitress Mia was impeccable warm and friendly. Would HIGHLY recommend!!

This was hands down the best meal we’ve had in Maui! We stopped here on our way back from the Haleakala National Park. Since we had a late lunch, we decided to go light and shared one appetizer, one entree, one dessert, and two drinks—and every single item was absolutely incredible! Sashimi Napoleon (Appetizer): A total standout! The wasabi sauce and the crispy wonton chips were the perfect finishing touches. Chef’s Special (Pan-seared Fresh Caught Kanpachi): The fish was incredibly fresh and perfectly seared. It was served over a bed of risotto that was rich, creamy, and flavorful. A fantastic combination! Pineapple Upside-Down Cake (Dessert): We had to try the famous cake, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Drinks: Both of our cocktails were fantastic and well-crafted. Our server was incredibly nice and patient. Knowing we were sharing the entree, they even proactively brought out sharing plates for us—such a thoughtful touch! Whether you are coming back from Haleakala or finishing the Reverse Road to Hana, this is the perfect spot to refuel. Highly recommend!

A must-visit spot when you’re on Maui. The restaurant offers fantastic regional and traditional local cuisine, full of authentic flavors. Service is very good, attentive, and welcoming, which adds to the overall experience. It’s a place with real character and a strong sense of tradition. Make sure to try the pineapple upside down cake dessert — highly recommended!

I recently visited Hali’i Maile General Store, where we ordered the loco moco and the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. For dessert, we chose the lilikoi crème brûlée, and I must say, the food was delicious! The loco moco's gravy was flavorful, and the chicken sandwich was perfectly cooked not over fried. The lilikoi crème brûlée was the perfect sweet ending to our meal. Our server, Mai, was fabulous, attentive and very welcoming. If you're in the area, I highly recommend checking out Hali’i Maile General Store.

Quite possibly the best meal we’ve had on Maui! The sashimi salad is a must and we really enjoyed the pork wontons. For mains, my husband had the fried chicken sandwich and I had the local fish curry (best I’ve had). We both ordered Baja margaritas — the parsley was such a surprisingly delicious touch!!! We’ve tried a lot of restaurants on Maui, and this one is a gem! The staff were incredibly nice; the setting and vibes were perfect; and the food very high quality. We will certainly come back any time we are on the island. Note: We made a reservation, but I don’t think it’s required - they were busy though (for obvious reasons!) so if you want to ensure you get a table, would recommend reserving. Also, they close 2:30-4:30 between lunch and dinner (Google doesn’t list that).

Loved this place. Great stop if you're waiting for a tour of the Maui Gold Plantation (and make sure to ask for a coupon there and you'll get a discount). Loved the ahi with udon noodles, and the pineapple upside down cake was delicious, but the pineapple burger (with perfectly cooked fries) was incredible.
