Waipouli Delicatessen & Restaurant
About
Island Comfort in the Heart of Kapaa
If you are cruising through Kapaa and need a no-frills, authentic start to your morning, Waipouli Delicatessen & Restaurant delivers exactly what the locals expect. This isn’t a place for white tablecloths or trendy fusion concepts; it is a straightforward neighborhood spot where the scent of hot coffee and sizzling bacon hits you the moment you step off the sidewalk.
The Local Breakfast Experience
Famous for generous portions of traditional comfort food, this diner remains a cornerstone for those visiting the East Side of Kauai. Their menu leans heavily into island-style plate lunches and classic American breakfast staples. Many visitors and residents gravitate toward their corned beef hash, which is widely recognized as a signature dish. There is a distinct, rhythmic clatter of dishes and low-volume local radio chatter that defines the soundtrack of the space, creating a grounded, unpretentious environment.
What to Expect When You Arrive
The interior reflects the laid-back nature of the Garden Isle. It is efficient, brightly lit, and built for people who want a solid meal before heading out to the beach or hiking trails. While the parking lot can get a bit tight during the mid-morning rush, the turnover is usually quick. It is the perfect stop for families or solo travelers looking to avoid the tourist traps and eat where the residents actually grab their morning fuel. When you walk in, expect a warm, fast-paced service style that prioritizes getting you a hot cup of coffee quickly. Whether you are craving a hearty omelet or a pile of pancakes, this Kapaa staple prioritizes substance over style every single day.

I had to cook the bacon more when I got home it was almost still raw. Why am ok at you to do that? The woman taking my order was barely even acknowledging me while I ordered. Asked for the bacon crispy, and scrambled eggs with cheese. Neither request was done. Lesson learned.

The only meal on the island that had us going “mmmmmm” the whole time. We really really tried to eat thru Kauai, as north as Waipa & as south as hanapepe, but nothing was hitting the spot. Waipouli deli was giving cooked by someone’s grandma. Everything was soo flavorful. & the people working seemed to know all the local patrons by name. Maybe the food is good bc they’re cooking for people they care about :) we will be back on our next trip to the island!

First off food was delicious. Next . DO NOT GO BY THE PRICES LISTED!!!! BOWLS ARE $10.99 cash $11.40 cc. Everything on the menu is about 30% higher then the posted prices. BUT it is still a great deal!!!!! This does not mean don't come at all. It is just a heads up that these are non monitored prices. But place is busy with locals and the place is always cooking Good food, good people, and a huge variety of choices in the menu

I found this local place on Google and boy am I glad I did. Auntie at the counter helped me pick the steak and noodle bowl. Delish! And it’s a steal at $10, considering the typical prices on Kauai. Highly recommend this little unassuming strip-mall treasure!

We were looking for the last authentic Hawaiian as a goodbye just before our flight and we found it! This is a mom-and-pop restaurant where even the children help with operations (I love to see it). I noticed it was full of locals and they all knew the names of the people operating the business. The menu has many local favorites, but we chose the corned beef hash loco mock and the chicken katsu; both came with white rice and over easy eggs. The katsu chicken was delicious, but the corned beef hash loco moco was out of his world, I cannot recommend this dish enough.

Great food. Local hidden gem. Authentic local. Good people. Gets busy fast but the wait is worth it. It’s why there are lines sometimes but food comes out fast. Ox tail soup is bomb! Everything I’ve tried has been great!!!

Delicious is an understatement! The service is friendly and seeing locals as regulars is always a sign that the food will be amazing. Thank you so much! We came here twice while visiting and will stop by first thing on our next trip!

Sunday morning 830 no wait. Only saw locals there. Macnut Pancakes were very good. I would come back for those. The Saimin was ok not too much flavor. Veggie omelet plate was good. Order and pay at the counter when you walk in then sit down at a table. Fast service which was great because we needed to get to our tour.
