Kountry Kitchen
About
A Morning Tradition on Kauai's East Side
When you find yourself cruising through Kapaa town, the aroma of sizzling bacon and fresh macadamia nut pancakes signals you’ve arrived at Kountry Kitchen. This is where locals head for a hearty start to the day. The space is unpretentious and bustling, capturing the authentic spirit of an island diner where the clatter of silverware and friendly chatter of the morning crowd set the pace.
Island-Style Comfort on the Plate
The kitchen is famous for its massive portions, particularly the buttermilk pancakes that manage to be both fluffy and crisp at the edges. If you have a serious appetite, the Loco Moco is a staple here, featuring a savory beef patty smothered in rich gravy that hits the spot after a morning surf session. The menu leans heavily into classic American diner comfort with a distinct local touch, offering kalua pork plates and perfectly fried eggs that pair well with their strong, bottomless coffee.
What to Expect
The interior feels like a time capsule—comfortable, straightforward, and welcoming. Because it is a favorite for both residents and visitors, be prepared for a short wait on the sidewalk during peak weekend hours, especially since parking in the Kapaa core can be a bit of a tight squeeze. It isn't a place for white-tablecloth service; it is a spot where you wipe the maple syrup off your chin and feel like part of the neighborhood. Whether you are fueling up for a drive to the North Shore or just looking for a solid, no-nonsense breakfast in the heart of Kauai, this remains a go-to anchor of the community.

Clean and updated since last visit we had in 2021. Nice improvements! Fast friendly service! We had breakfast and it’s phenomenal!

This place was delicious, and the staff was amazing. Our sever Carrie was the sweetest. Gave us some great beach tips. The pancakes here are the biggest I’ve ever seen! You can definitely split one between 2 people. I had a coconut pancake that was so light and fluffy. I also had a coconut latte. The coconut in the latte was so smooth, it didn’t have that alcohol-y taste some coconut flavoring has. They also have fresh juice, we had watermelon and it was very refreshing. Definitely check this spot out for an unforgettable breakfast.

We stopped in for breakfast one day. There was a pretty long line but we had added our name online ahead of time so our wait wasn't too bad. I ordered the moco loco and a mac nut latte - both were delicious. My kids both had waffles, one with bananas and the other just plain (boring, I know). They were huge and so good. We'll definitely go here again next time we visit Kauai

Recommended by a friend. Ordered the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a delicious bun. The eggs were scrambled with butter sautéed onions. A really good combination of flavors. Also ordered the macadamia but French toast…yummy. Although the coconut syrup was so cold, I came out in clumps. Has an old diner vibe.

I had a great experience at Kountry Kitchen. The service was excellent — the staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. The food was egg-cellent! Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. You can really tell they care about both the quality of their food and their customers. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Top 3 restaurant my fiancé and I have ever experienced for brunch. We ordered; Coffee- Fresh and fragrant Watermelon juice- the freshest juice you can get, i didn’t think a drink could be so refreshing. No added sugar, fresh juiced. Kauai Eggs Benny- pulled pork paired with perfect poached eggs and a hint of onion. Unbelievable. Avocado Bacon Benny- ingredients were noticeable, such good quality. Wonderful. Mac Nut French Toast- delectable, the homemade coconut syrup changed my life…lol We enjoyed raving with those around us about how good the food and staff were. Made jokes about everyone’s plates being completely clean. Overall made our afternoon. Staff was friendly and authentic, restaurant itself was such a nice vibe, actually posted a picture on my social media (never do) on how cute it was. Felt great after, didn’t even feel heavy for hiking even though we ate literally everything. Can’t wait to go back.

This is the Cracker Barrel of Hawaii but with far better food. This was a surprising diamond in the rough. Looks like nothing from the outside but has very unique decor where almost everything is for sale by local artists. Cute store. But also the drinks (I had fresh watermelon juice that was amazing) and the food was fabulous. I had a version of eggs Benedict that had Portuguese sausage and was on cornbread. My husband got a pancake that was ENORMOUS with Mac nuts and bananas. Great meal. Can’t believe this was my first visit for this restaurant.
