The Crooked Surf
About
A Casual Kapaa Hangout
Stepping into The Crooked Surf feels like catching the end of a long day on the Kauai coast. Situated right in the heart of Kapaa, this spot doesn't try to be fancy; it leans entirely into the laid-back, salt-air lifestyle that defines the East Side. Expect a soundtrack of clinking glassware and spirited conversation, often punctuated by the low hum of traffic passing through town.
Menu Staples & Flavors
The kitchen leans into island-comfort fusion, prioritizing fresh catches and local produce whenever possible. Their signature fish tacos have become a staple for locals looking for a quick lunch, featuring charred corn tortillas and a house-made slaw that offers just the right amount of tang. If you arrive during the golden hour, grab a stool near the window to watch the Kapaa sky shift colors while you work through a bowl of their spicy poke or a hearty, toasted sandwich.
The Island Pace
Be aware that the parking situation in this part of town can be a bit of a dance, so plan to walk a block or two if you hit the lunch rush. The interior is unpretentious, featuring weathered wood accents that mirror the nearby coastline. It is the kind of place where you leave your sandals by the door and don't worry if you still have a bit of sand on your shins. Whether you are a frequent visitor to the Garden Isle or just wrapping up a day at the beach, this is your reliable stop for a no-fuss, flavor-packed meal in the middle of Kapaa.

Crooked Surf was one of the most memorable dining experiences from our Kauai trip. The restaurant is located inside the Sheraton, and one thing we really appreciated is that it is not only limited to Sheraton guests — outsiders can also come in and enjoy the experience. We were in Kauai for 8 days, and we loved this place so much that we came here for dinner two nights. That alone says how much it stood out to us. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance felt special. It had that perfect island vacation feeling — relaxed, beautiful, warm, and welcoming. It is the kind of place where you can slow down, enjoy the evening, take in the atmosphere, and feel like you are truly on vacation. Everything about the setting made dinner feel more than just a meal; it felt like an experience. The food was absolutely amazing. The taste, quality, and presentation were all excellent. Every dish we had felt fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. You can tell when a restaurant really cares about both flavor and consistency, and Crooked Surf delivered that for us both nights we visited. It was the kind of food that makes you pause for a second and say, “Wow, this is really good.” The service was also wonderful. Everyone we interacted with was kind, attentive, and made us feel comfortable. Good service can completely change a dining experience, and here it added so much to the overall feeling of the place. We never felt rushed, and everything felt smooth and enjoyable. And we absolutely cannot forget the drinks. The Piña Colada and Lava Flow we had here were unforgettable. They were refreshing, rich, perfectly made, and honestly tasted like Kauai in a glass. Even after leaving, we kept talking about how good those drinks were. They were easily some of the best vacation drinks we had on the island. Crooked Surf is one of those places that combines everything beautifully — great ambiance, delicious food, excellent quality, memorable drinks, and warm service. It became more than just a restaurant for us; it became part of our Kauai memories. If you are staying at the Sheraton or even just visiting the area, this is absolutely worth going to. Five stars without hesitation. We would happily come back the next time we are in Kauai.

Stayed here recently and ordered a plate of nachos by the pool. The chips were soggy when we received them, and our group all got food poisoning and extremely sick after eating them. Bartender was nice but was making comments about counting down the time until they were clocking out. The staff here in general was unwelcoming, especially one woman at the front desk.

Beautiful ambiance. Loved the vibe and the serving staff was super friendly and accommodating. The food is great . We eat vegetarian only so opted for veggie burger which comes with a decent portion of fries . The mango mocktail is great . Chocolate lava cake is decadent and worth trying.

The vegetarian/veggie offerings are SO good!! We ordered room service from here as well as dining next to their pool. Tofu poke bowl was so delicious. My partner really enjoyed their veggie burger. HIGHLY recommend their Cesar salad (vegetarian!!) so so good. Furikake fries and garlic parm fries also really hit the spot. Portions are generous!!

We had the ahi poke and some wings with sweet potato fries. The fries were the best part. Wings were lightly sauced and under fried. The ahi and sauce were great in the poke but the rice was too gummy and clumpy. It seemed a day old. Great views both the ocean and pool area. Adequate service but extended wait times on ordering and food arrival. Did love their signature mai tai though.

Pool side, fire... and GREAT service... WOW! These wings are HUGE! Great service, and she seemed happy with a smile on her face the whole time! It's amazing to say this... these days you don't get this kind of generous portions or this kind of "full" service, with a smile. Go check them out if you want a good evening with your spouse or a group of friends.

We were hesitant to go here since the rating wasn’t the highest, but our food was all delicious! We also loved the view and our service was great. I’m not sure why it doesn’t have a better rating because it should. We loved the fish tacos, ahi sandwich and chicken wings. Excellent spot for lunch!
