A Taste of Kauai’s Authentic Kitchen

Stepping into Naisla in the heart of Kapaa, you immediately notice the absence of tourist-trap flair. This is a local-first establishment where the focus remains squarely on island-style comfort food. The air carries the faint, savory scent of slow-cooked meats and fresh ginger, a sensory signature of the kitchen’s commitment to traditional preparations.

The Local Flavor Profile

The menu serves as a direct bridge to Kauai’s culinary heritage. Regulars often gravitate toward their signature plate lunches, which feature generous portions of kalua pork—tender, smoky, and perfectly seasoned. It is the kind of meal that demands a relaxed afternoon afterward. You’ll find that the textures here are consistent, avoiding the common pitfalls of overly processed ingredients found elsewhere on the island.

A Casual Kapaa Corner

The atmosphere is unpretentious and stripped back. It isn't a place for white tablecloths or formal dining; rather, it’s a spot where residents grab a quick, hearty lunch or a reliable dinner after a long day near the Wailua River. One minor quirk to keep in mind is that the space is compact, which gives it a bustling, neighborly energy during the peak lunch hour. If you prefer a quieter experience, timing your visit for mid-afternoon ensures you can enjoy your meal without the rush.

For those exploring the eastern coastline, Naisla offers an honest representation of how Kapaa eats. Whether you are a first-time visitor looking for genuine local seasoning or a long-time resident seeking a familiar, soul-satisfying meal, the kitchen maintains a standard that honors its roots.

This was our first visit to this recently opened restaurant. We came as a result of rave reviews of friends who had been there the night before. Glad we did. The food was terrific, as was the service. If you're looking for fancy decor in a Hawaiian style, go elsewhere. If you want a great gustatory experience, you're in the right place. The menu was creative and interesting. Rather than going with the prix fixe options, we instead selected the catch of the day and the short ribs. We finished the meal with the lava cake dessert. Every bite of each was a treat. The service was prompt, attentive, and friendly. We couldn't have asked for more than our server, Brock. He was knowledgeable and willing to patiently go through our options and his suggested choices. There's a large wine list, with several by-the-glass options and many bottle choices. It's hard to read because it is crowded, and the typeface is hard to read as printed. I settled on a glass of the cabernet, and it was lovely (I'm a bit of a wine snob, so that's a good sign). All in all, I highly recommend you make your reservation sooner rather than later. Right now, before they've been discovered, the schedule is open. In a month or two, look out!

Incredible food, incredible drinks, incredible service. By far and away the best meal we've had on the island. These folks go above and beyond and I cannot recommend this place enough.

Ordered three food items Cold Water Scallops: Warm Bacon Vinaigrette. Truffle Potato, Pickled Fresno Chili GF. - really cooked to perfection. Incredible crust on top. Paired with the potato, just a great bite. Little hint of spice from the chili. I had the Surf and Turf: Truffle Potato Puree*. Mushroom Conserva. Toki Whiskey Red Onions. Compound Butter GF* with a butter poached lobster. - first order, my medium rare steak came out, no joke, probably medium well. In the center, perhaps well done on the sides. Our waitress came by and quickly realized and brought out a better steak and a whole new plate, appreciated her attention to the matter. The lobster was one of the best I've had. Just absolutely tender, melt in your mouth. Steak, potatos, onions and mushrooms were all pleasantly rich and delicious. Girlfriend ordered the fresh Catch which was Mahi mahi. Cooked very well with an absolutely delicious sauce of lemon and capers. A real highlight of the meal

Hands down the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. Started off with the scallops and tuna carpaccio. Fantastic. Got the spicy margarita and the Sunny bubbles for drinks. For entree, my fiancé got the lobster fettuccine and I got the filet. We couldn’t stop talking about the meal after we left. They also offer a 4 course option that is $110 a person, but you each get an app, salad, entree, and dessert. If you’re hungry, it is a steal of a deal. I would recommend this place to anyone I know going to Kauai. Worth every penny and can’t say enough good things about it. Mike, our server, was also outstanding. I even thought about telling the chef how delicious it was.

First time dining at Naisla and it was worth the 40-minute trip from Poi’pu. Will definitely be back to try other dinner entrees and cocktails! Highly recommend! Shoutout to our server Mia who was great and helped us make our choices! We started with the steak bites appetizer which was melt in your mouth good! For the main course we tried the lobster linguini, soy braised short rib over risotto, and the Jidori chicken with purple sweet potato and carrots. We highly recommend each of these dishes as they were all delicious and flavorful as they looked on their website! We topped it off with the coffee cake dessert paired with the Molo’a martini both of which were excellent! Cool vibe all around! You won’t be disappointed but best to make a reservation as they were busy on a Monday!

Dinner for one came to $116 (appetizer, pasta, and one drink). The hamachi crudo was a complete miss — heavily over-marinated in soy sauce to the point where the flavor of the fish was lost. The lobster pasta was fine. I do not recommend it, it’s far from matching the price. The “bubble” drink was good. My first visit was a much better experience than the second. The chicken main and a lettuce salad were strong dishes and are the ones I would actually recommend. Overall, inconsistent quality for the price. Ordering carefully matters.
