A Slice of Kapaa Culinary Tradition

For locals cruising through Kapaa, Leong's Meat House serves as an essential stop for those who value traditional island-style comfort food. This isn't a place for white tablecloths; it is a straightforward, no-nonsense deli that focuses entirely on the quality of the cure and the smoke. The air inside is thick with the savory, hickory-kissed aroma of house-smoked meats, a scent that hits you the moment you step off the street.

The Local Go-To for Smoked Meats

The shop has built a reputation on its mastery of local proteins. Their signature smoked meats are the main event, often rotating based on the daily haul. Whether it is a perfectly seasoned brisket or their distinctively tender pork, the preparation reflects a deep understanding of low-and-slow heat. You will hear the rhythmic hum of the meat slicer and the casual banter of residents grabbing lunch, creating a backdrop that feels distinctly Kauai.

What to Expect When You Visit

If you are planning a trip to the East Side, keep in mind that this is a grab-and-go destination. Parking can be a bit of a scramble during the peak lunch rush, but the efficiency of the service keeps the line moving quickly. It is the ideal spot to pick up provisions before heading toward the coast or up toward the northern hiking trails. Make sure to come early, as the best cuts have a tendency to sell out before the afternoon fades, especially on busier weekends when islanders and visitors alike clamor for a taste of their famous deli offerings.

Thankful to the local crazy shirts lady who told us to skip the food land misubi and buy the REAL STUFF!! The Misubi truck did not disappoint! Very satisfied with the flavors, crunch, and portion of the deep fried misubi and truffle tots😍

The food was good. We waited about 15 - 20 minutes until order was ready. We ordered the Local Poke Bowl and the Lifeguard Bento. I am giving them a 3 for food because the Crispy Tater Tots were room temperature/cold, the deep fried Spam Musubi was crispy, slightly warmer than room temperature, and the Spicy Mayo Poke was not spicy. I am not sure if this is how the food was supposed to be served, but when I order fried food I expect it to be hot out of the fryer. The spicy mayo poke may have been the spice level that they use, but not the slightest hint of spice in the mayo. I wish they had some hot sauce as a condiment so I could have made the poke spicier. This is a cute little spot and they seem to have a good following.

Great cute little spot tuck in off the road. Plenty of seating with umbrellas and even misters. Deep fried musubi were amazing and the truffle tater tots were next level. Must stop and simply enjoy anything on the menu.

We had 2 poke bowls, 2 OG’s and an order of truffle parm tater tots. The food was good and made to order. The tater tots were good, but the sauce was a bit strong/heavy. I would opt for regular tater tots again. The poke bowls were delicious! There is an outdoor seating area with a mist fan, which made most seats quite wet. We were also surrounded by none other than a large amount of Kauai chickens.

Best musubi on the island! The “OG” really hit the spot after a day of hiking. Skip the musubi at 7/11 and check this place out if you enjoy real, authentic flavor. The truffle tots were on point! But the real star of the show was the Katsu Musubi. Filling and worth every penny!

Musubi Truck is a must for anybody visiting Kauai. The vibe is great. Take your food and sit at the beach or use their picnic tables. We get da bomb (steak musubi) and the ahi katsu (lightly panko’d ahi musubi) and a local poke bowl and a spicy poke bowl. When we musubi it’s usually enough for lunch and dinner. Mahalo. Shaka. 🤙

I had the spicy mayo poke on a bed of salad with a side of sesame-soy dressing. It was light and fresh. The amount of poke was very generous, but not spicy. However, I would still recommend getting, if you want something light and not in the mood for what they specialize in: Musubis. I would definitely come back to try their deep fried spam musubi.
