Straight from the Kapaa Harbor

When you find yourself wandering the colorful streets of Kapaa, Fish Bar Deli stands out as a genuine hub for those who prioritize the day’s catch over everything else. This isn’t a spot for tablecloth dining; it is a straightforward, no-nonsense kitchen where the ocean dictates the menu. The scent of seared ahi hits you the moment you step through the door, mingling with the salt-air breeze coming off the nearby coast.

The Catch of the Day

The culinary philosophy here is simple: keep it local. The chefs prioritize sourcing fish directly from Kauai’s waters, ensuring the sashimi is as translucent and firm as it gets. Regulars frequent the counter for their signature poke bowls, often accented with house-made sauces that balance the natural buttery sweetness of the tuna with just enough heat. If you enjoy a crunch, their fried fish baskets are a consistent favorite, featuring a golden, aerated crust that shatters perfectly upon the first bite.

A Local Kauai Rhythm

The atmosphere inside shifts with the island tide. During the lunch rush, it’s a high-energy space filled with the sounds of locals chatting and the rhythmic chopping of fresh greens behind the bar. It’s the kind of place where you might find yourself waiting a few extra minutes for a seat during peak hours, but the casual, laid-back vibe makes it easy to lean against the wall and soak in the Kauai spirit. It’s best suited for solo travelers looking for a quick, high-quality bite or small groups who appreciate an unpretentious atmosphere that feels like a true slice of island life.

Parking can be a bit of a localized sport in this part of Kapaa, so keep your eyes peeled for a spot along the main drag as you approach. Once you’re in, just follow the crowd and order whatever came off the boat that morning—you won't be disappointed.

It’s a casual space but the food and drinks are phenomenal and the service is excellent. We went for a late lunch after a very long travel day with a 2yr old and 6mo old who hadn’t napped so they were not the chillest customers in the restaurant, but all of the staff were so accommodating and kind to us. The fish was incredibly fresh. We had the kale salad with pan seared fresh catch and the bowl lunch with poke and fried chicken and it was all top tier. We also had a soursop colada that was refined and complex. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Very cool hole in the wall. Very unique products to purchase but then a bar and restaurant to enjoy. Those women are killing it on service and bartending skills! Recommended to us by a local!

Love the food. Atmosphere is a great vibe. Staff is always friendly. Sometimes the wait to get in is lengthly. The wait for food is a little longer. But yhe food is always fresh and always amazing. You definatly leave feeling full and happy! Very limited on space in the resturant.

Erin has created something truly special. Whether my daughter and I stop in for a juice, or our family comes by for lunch, drinks, and good conversation, we always know we're going to have a great experience. The food is consistently excellent, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the quality never disappoints. What makes this place stand out is the people. Erin's creativity, attention to detail, and commitment to quality can be seen in everything she does. Patsy keeps everything running smoothly and professionally, and it's clear how much she cares about both the customers and the team. And if you're lucky enough to visit when Rojeanne is behind the bar, you'll understand why so many people enjoy coming back. She has a way of making everyone feel welcome and taken care of. I also love the specialty shop, which is filled with unique products from around the world, including cheeses, chocolates, hot sauces, sardines, canned fish, and other hard-to-find treats. There's always something interesting to discover. This is one of our family's favorite places on Kauai. Great food, great people, and a great experience every time. Mahalo to Erin, Patsy, Rojeanne, and the entire team for creating such a special place!! We will always come back.

I was so excited to go here, and it was SO GOOD! Such a cute little restaurant and market. It was pouring when we arrived, but we got there right at opening, so no wait. I had the Tai Me Up cocktail, which was excellent. The deviled eggs with crispy Spam were beyond incredible—a must-order (though the flavor might rotate). I also tried the daily fish sandwich, which was perfectly crispy in the cornmeal, with a soft bun that just melts in your mouth—I absolutely loved it. The Ahi Au Poivre was incredible too, a fun and clever take on the classic dish, very well done. Service was friendly, thoughtful, and quick, the space is bright and airy. Hoping to come back, this place is a must!

We came here several times when we visited a few years ago, and we’re so happy to be here again! The staff is wonderful (Midori is a gem! ❤️) and the food is always incredibly delicious. Allow the staff a little grace during busy hours - everything is made from scratch and food made with love can take a little extra time! The craft cocktails are probably the best in the area :)

This place rocks. Easily the best food my wife and I had on the island, only place we decided to revisit. The Mrs loved the vegan poke and truffle fries, and I had the fish sandwich both of which we raved about. On top of the food, the vibes there are immaculate. Super friendly staff, lively crowd, and wonderful ambiance. Bit of a wait for a table, so plan accordingly, but well worth it!

Omg this place is fantastic. My mom, fiance and I stopped in for lunch after seeing the restaurant while walking around Kapa'a and I am so glad we did. The fish and chips were genuinely the best I have ever had. The fish was fresh and flaky and the batter was perfectly crispy. Also, the three piece portion was huge! I also enjoyed the sauces that came along with them, but preferred them with lemon juice alone. My order, the fresh island fish sandwich, was next level. The fish itself was delicious (loved the cornmeal batter) and the pickles and tomato on top along with the sauce were perfect additions (and I say this as someone who usually doesn't like tomato or pickle... These ones were special). My fiance absolutely loved her fresh tuna melt. Unlike tuna melts you can find at diners across the US, the fish served here was fresh and delicious. The house mayo used to bind the fish was also delicious and much better than anything you could get in a jar (and if it did come from a jar, it was really good imo). Overall, our food was absolutely fantastic. However, as many reviews note, the service wasn't great (slow, generally inattentive, and it took us over 20 minutes to get our bill since any server that looked our way and saw we were trying to cash out would quickly avert their eyes and walk away). I think this is overall a symptom of the restaurant itself being small and I disagree with the reviews saying the staff were rude. It's a busy restaurant serving great food, so the trade off is worth it! If you're in the mood for great sea food, this spot is fantastic and well worth a visit!

Glad we happened upon this place! I was in the mood for a great green salad and some fish! The greens were so fresh, the fish amazing, the Mac salad was wonderful and the homemade tartar sauce was YUM! ♥️ Great food and excellent service! Bar tender and servers were very attentive and genuinely friendly. Atmosphere is good, but music was more edgy and may not appeal to older patrons (sceamo rock in the entryway). Mostly bar seating on high stools (for us vertically challenged 😂). We had Simple Greens Salad w citrus vinaigrette. Flower was tasty too (surprisingly...) and Ahi Belly fish and chips with homemade tartar and Mac salad ❤️
