A Taste of Thailand on the Windward Side

Tucked away in the heart of Kaneohe, Kits 'n' Koa Thai Cuisine offers a straightforward approach to Southeast Asian comfort food. This spot has become a local go-to for residents craving punchy curries and aromatic stir-fries without needing to trek into Honolulu. The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious—the kind of place where the focus remains entirely on the plate rather than formal service rituals.

Savoring the Heat

The kitchen excels at balancing the fundamental Thai quartet: spicy, sour, sweet, and salty. Diners often gravitate toward the classic Pad Thai, which arrives with a generous tangle of noodles, crushed peanuts, and a squeeze of lime that cuts through the savory tamarind base. If you prefer something with more kick, the Green Curry is a highlight, featuring tender proteins swimming in a coconut milk broth infused with fragrant Thai basil and crisp bamboo shoots. You might notice the room hums with a steady, local energy during the lunch rush, though it's best to prepare for a brisk pace—this is a high-turnover neighborhood favorite.

Practical Local Dining

Parking in this busy Kaneohe pocket can occasionally be a puzzle, so keep an eye out for available stalls early. Once you secure a spot, expect a meal that prioritizes value and depth of flavor. The aroma of garlic and chili oil greets you at the door, setting the stage for a satisfying meal whether you are grabbing a quick takeout order after a day at the beach or settling in for a relaxed dinner with friends. It’s an essential stop for those who value authentic spice levels and hearty portions in a relaxed, island-style setting.

Called in for a takeout order. Was told it would be 15 minutes. When I arrived order was ready. Overall, dishes were flavorful … did not request spicy on any dishes. For takeout I would recommend that spring rolls be packed separately so that lettuce and mint leaves don’t get “steamed” on the way home. The Pad Thai noodles seem to meld together so it would be better to dine in for those. The coconut soup was tasty but the chicken in the soup and Pad Thai was dry. The galangal and “spice leaf” ??was plentiful so you found yourself chewing on pieces by mistake. When cooking it would be good to let these items simmer into the soup using a filter bag so that when serving later these pieces don’t get mixed into your dish with the onions and mushrooms.

I recently dined at Heart of Thai and the food was exactly what I’d hoped for—the Red Curry was authentic and delicious. I also want to commend the staff; my server was incredibly gracious, making the experience feel welcoming and personal. My only point of constructive feedback: I was disappointed to find no green tea on the menu. As a staple of the culture and a favorite for many diners, its absence was a missed opportunity for an otherwise stellar meal. I’m happy to give 5 stars today because the service was so strong, but I truly hope to see tea added to the menu soon!

I’m so upset to write such a horrible review but, if I suffered through this, I’d like to save someone else the trouble. Pictured is my order of Pad Se EEEEWWWW is right 🥴 this is by far the worst take out meal I have ever tried to eat. It was so dry, the noodles were stuck together like they had been cooked then allowed to cool without an oil and just formed super thick starchy globs. The meat was so questionable, not sure which month it was cooked in. Absolutely no flavor whatsoever. It was truly a disaster, so bad actually, it had me thinking this much be a money laundering operation because how could they serve this and stay in business. I honestly was so embarrassed for them and took a long time to write this review. But it has to be said. The most carelessly prepared ‘meal’ I’ve ever had to pay for. You can even see in the photo the super white areas of the unseasoned undercooked noodles. And to think I brought this monstrosity home so excited to eat a favorite Thai meal and end up with something I’m not even sure my dog would eat. I would never recommend eating here, again not even convinced it’s an actual restaurant. *Caution*

Authentic food. We tried the vegetarian option and it was really tasty 😋. The service is quick as well as the owner is very friendly. (Also, they had a cute crockery) Must try restaurant.

Awesome Thai cuisine! A small in size but large in flavor restaurant! My wife and I were famished after touring the Byodo-In Temple and nothing satisfies like Thai! And we were happy to see this restaurant pop up on Google Maps. The service was prompt and attentive, the food was everything you would want in Thai cuisine, and the atmosphere was a cozy family run eatery. Only six tables, but the space was used effectively. The food was great. The Pad Se Eew was particularly good, the wide noodles were fantastic! The chicken Satay was tender with a fab sauce. My wife ordered the Spicy Noodles, which I were also delish. We both ordered medium hot which was perfect! The meal was promptly served and the waiter was attentive. An easy, quick, and very satisfying lunch!

Heart of Thai – My New Favorite Spot! Hands down, Heart of Thai is my new favorite restaurant! The food was absolutely ono—so flavorful and satisfying. I tried the Pad Thai, Chicken Cashew, and Yellow Curry, all of which were packed with rich, authentic Thai flavors. To top it off, I had sticky rice with mango for dessert, and it was the perfect sweet ending to the meal. Not only was the food amazing, but the presentation was also adorable—all the plates were heart-shaped, adding a unique and charming touch. Located in the heart of Kaneohe, this spot is definitely a must-visit for Thai food lovers. I’ll be coming back for sure!

They have the best Thai food in Oahu , I can say that after tasting numerous restaurants! Also, vegan friendly! The pad Thai , Jungle fried rice and Thai ice tea are worth repeating! They have unique way of serving spring rolls with mint and we loved it! We visited this place twice during our stay !

Found Heart of Thai on accident, and what a great find! Family-run restaurant, simple and classy on the inside, just wonderful service, and oh wow... the food! Spring rolls are crisp and delicious. Cashew chicken is soooooo flavorful. Tom kha soup was creamy, and the pad thai was as good as you could want. Portion sizes were generous, so I'll have a great lunch tomorrow. And for the quality and the quantity, the prices are beyond reasonable. The food was so good, I was dancing in my seat as I was eating it!

Great Thai food and even better service! I was out and about on vacation with my family and we got hungry. Found this place online and popped in to eat. I was glad we did because the food was so good. I even loved the presentation, which was an unexpected treat. The service was also phenomenal. The space was comfortable and relaxed. I had the basil with chicken dish and the mango and sticky rice, both of which were amazing. My mom had the Pad Thai and spring rolls-she loved both and she doesn't normally eat Thai food! My cousin got the grilled beef salad and also a few spring rolls. We all loved our food and had so many leftovers we ate for days off of it!

We stopped in for lunch to this small family owned thai restaurant and were greeted like family. We enjoyed the good food and Chris made us feel like friends. He was also very accommodating to my vegetarian daughter. I highly recommend you checking it out.
