Windward Oahu’s Morning Staple

Stepping into Kaneohe Pancake House feels like catching up with an old friend. This Windward side institution has been serving the local community for decades, maintaining an unpretentious, home-style environment that defines the neighborhood’s morning routine. It is the kind of place where the scent of sizzling bacon and fresh-brewed coffee hits you the moment the screen door latches behind you.

Classic Island Comfort Food

While the name points directly to their fluffy, golden pancakes, the menu here is a masterclass in local comfort. The fried rice is a mandatory order for many regulars—smoky, savory, and perfectly portioned to keep you fueled for a hike at nearby Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden. Their Portuguese sausage and eggs are consistent, reliable, and exactly what you expect from a staple that understands the value of simplicity. Don't be surprised if the kitchen staff is juggling multiple pans with rhythmic efficiency; the speed is impressive given the steady stream of morning commuters.

Know Before You Go

The space carries a distinct, nostalgic charm, characterized by low ceilings and a layout that keeps everyone close. It’s loud, buzzy, and energetic—perfect for groups looking to start the day with a hearty meal, though you might find yourself waiting for a table during the weekend rush. Parking in the small lot can be a bit of a dance, but locals will tell you the wait for the buttery macadamia nut pancakes is worth the maneuvering. If you are exploring the Kaneohe area and want a genuine, no-frills breakfast experience that stays true to its roots, this is your go-to spot.

************Update************ Sunday (Mother's Day) 5/10/2026. Two items that the management/absent owners need to address ASAP. 1 - Who's bright idea was it to start using the nauseating and unhealthy substitution of a seed-oil based "breakfast spread" in lieu of real butter like you always have before? 2- Your "Meat-lovers" omelet should be renamed "Ham and Cheese Omlette" since there was only ham and cheese found in the omlette and not the other 3 meats noted in the menu (sent it back for correction but cook only added one piece of beacon and another small piece of unknown meat) Please don't continue down this path of being, "Penny-wise but Pound-foolish". Never ever substitute quality to adjust the bottom line. Raise prices but don't use poor ingredients or use false advertising. We will try one more time and if your restaurant continues this new, ill-advised practice we will no longer be one of your regulars. ********************** Great food. Generous portions and friendly service and staff. Wish there was more parking though.

Classic diner experience with MASSIVE portions! Nothing to fault about this place - food was amazing, service was attentive and the price point was unmatched. The Apple caramel pancake stack was superb.

I’ll have to say this pancake house is definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re craving a savory breakfast. The kalbi and eggs were really good, flavorful, tender, and cooked just right. The hot chocolate was also a standout, rich and comforting. Plus, the portions are BIG, so you’ll leave full. The fried rice wasn’t my favorite, but everything else made up for it. One thing to plan for is parking, it’s pretty scarce at the restaurant. You’ll likely have to park on the street, or risk getting towed parking at the bank next door which is what we did cause street parking was also scarce. Overall, still a solid spot for a hearty breakfast spot.

Host was snappy. Waitress wasn't happy for separate bills. The eggs Benedict with crab cakes was way subpar. Was told Hollandaise sauce was very good by waitress... not true.

Perfect local style diner. Food was awesome. Fresh eggs and good quality ingredients. My wife had the veggie omelette and I had the loco moco. Both were delicious.

This restaurant has become a local favorite, so I was excited to visit and see if their breakfast lived up to the hype. As is often the case in Hawaiʻi, the breakfast portions are generous and feel more like a full brunch. Parking Finding a parking spot proved to be a bit of a challenge right outside the restaurant, but we found plenty of street parking just a block away. We were seated within a few minutes and were immediately impressed by how attentive the staff was. Our host quickly cleared and bussed a table for us, and our drink orders were taken right away. Drinks We ordered two green teas, and our server made sure our mugs were always full. While the service was great, I was a little disappointed to see that they used a generic Kirkland brand tea. It would be a nice touch to see a local tea purveyor on the menu to further elevate the dining experience. Food I've dedicated my life to cooking, so I'm a stickler when it comes to ordering. I wanted to try what I thought were the most notable dishes on the menu: the crab cake benedict and the ube pancakes. Our food arrived in about 15 minutes, and both plates were beautifully presented. The crab cake benedict was a delicious take on a French classic, with a Hawaiian twist. The flavors were mostly on point; however, the hollandaise was a little more sour than I would have liked. The potatoes were served hot, but I thought the crab cake could have been a little crispier to add more texture to the dish. The ube pancakes were nice to see . The vibrant purple hue of the pancakes and ube butter was impressive, topped with a delicate dusting of powdered sugar. As a professional, I know that ube, a purple yam, is most interesting for its texture and color. While the presentation was great, the flavor was average and overshadowed by the powerful color. Overall experience Our dining experience was swift and efficient. The two servers and one host worked together to run the entire dining room, and we were presented with our check soon after we finished eating. For $51 plus tip, it was a fair price for a good meal and great service. Overall, this restaurant offers a satisfying meal with quick and attentive service. While there were a few minor details in the food that could be improved, the experience was pleasant and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a hearty brunch.
