A Taste of Local Kaneohe Soul

Tucked away near the Windward Mall, Hapa Haole Kitchen serves as a no-frills sanctuary for those craving authentic plate lunch culture. The air here carries the distinct, savory scent of shoyu-marinated meats hitting a hot flat-top grill, a familiar aroma for anyone raised in the heart of Kaneohe.

The Plate Lunch Standard

This spot captures the essence of Hawaii’s culinary melting pot. The menu leans heavily into local favorites—expect generous portions of macaroni salad that actually tastes like it was made at home, alongside crisp, golden-fried protein options. It is the kind of place where you come hungry after a morning hike through the Koolau Mountains or a session at the beach.

The Local Experience

The atmosphere is strictly casual. You aren’t coming here for white tablecloths; you are coming for a quick, heavy, satisfying meal that hits the spot without pretense. Be prepared for a modest seating area that fills up fast during the lunch rush, and keep an eye on the parking lot, which can get a bit congested as the local crowd rotates in and out. It is the perfect stop for residents looking for a reliable, honest lunch that reflects the laid-back spirit of the Windward side of Oahu.

my family of 5 came here for my birthday dinner. we arrived around 20 mins after opening and they told us the wait would be 60-90 mins. we ended up going to the garden to take some photos then waited in our car for the rest of the time. we ended up getting seated over 90 mins later. we got sat at a table with an amazing view, and got drinks and complimentary bread while we waited for the entrees. the entrees took a while to come out, about 30 mins after ordering. the portions are massive! we got the prime rib (32oz), a full stack of bbq ribs, coconut shrimp, and steamed fish. for dessert we got the paradise pie and the baby cake. the baby cake has a raspberry puree on it which was kind of unique (i’d rate it a 3/5), but the paradise pie was amazing!! overall, plan to spend your entire night at this restaurant, because it’s definitely an experience. the service was slower than expected, but the food and view made up for it. i’d give this place a 4/5, just because of how long we had to wait. in total with tip, the bill came out to a little over $400.

Wow! This place was spectacular! The views made us feel like we were in a movie! The service was top notch. We got there about 6 and asked for a table on the balcony we were seated 30 minutes later! While you wait you can stroll through the rainforest! How magical! The food was too die for and they know how to make some good drinks! It was on the pricier side but that was expected. We will for sure come back if we visit again ♥️

Definitely a great place for dinner. The service was friendly and attentive. It was crowded and we waited 1hour 45 minutes but totally worth it. There's a pond on the premises with a gazebo for great pictures while waiting. The food was fantastic. We got the primerib which was enormous and cooked perfectly. The raw and creamy horseradish were perfect. The scoop of mashed potato was so creamy and tasty. This is unheard of for 79$. Please don't change. Also got the Cesar salad which was fresh and dressing was spot on. Also got the seafood chowder whis was perfect consistency and had chunks of flavorful fish and clams. Overall a perfect dinner! This is a must do while in Oahu.
