Local Comforts on the Windward Side
Located in the heart of Kaneohe, Got'z Grindz serves as a reliable go-to for residents craving no-nonsense, hearty Hawaiian plate lunches. The space carries that quintessential island-style simplicity where the focus remains entirely on the steam rising from a generous scoop of white rice and the savory aroma of slow-cooked meats.
The Plate Lunch Tradition
Whether you are grabbing a quick meal before heading to the nearby Ko'olau mountains or picking up lunch for the office, the menu excels in classic comfort staples. Patrons consistently gravitate toward their hearty kalua pork and savory meat jun, dishes that capture the essence of local home-style cooking. The portions are substantial, designed to fuel a long afternoon, though be prepared for a bit of a wait during the peak lunch rush as local demand stays high.
Island Atmosphere
The interior is unpretentious, prioritizing function over flair. It feels like a genuine neighborhood kitchen where the sounds of the kitchen staff working the grill mingle with the casual chatter of regulars. It is an ideal spot for those who appreciate authentic Windward Oahu flavor without the tourist-heavy crowds found further toward the coast. Parking in the Kaneohe area can occasionally be a bit tight, but the quality of the barbecue and the welcoming, laid-back service make the extra effort worthwhile. For a true taste of how the island eats on a daily basis, this humble spot remains a pillar of the local culinary landscape.

Don’t buy the beef stew or the beef curry, pay $13/bowl u get only 2 piece of beef for each bowl, just full of rice and sauce. Not worth it. Came here last year, food was better. This year they have more people working in the back kitchen and less meat.

Came by early morning to samps some musubi and have a few later for the beach. Their selection is great and the auntie at the counter was so friendly. The unagi was our fav, and the vegan spam was pretty solid but you can still tell it's mock meat from the texture. The tofu spam was really good too, with 'ono furikake! Their teriyaki musubi however had no teriyaki flavor/sauce and just tasted like a classic spam. Would love to come back and try other flavors and samps their bento too :)

While visiting Hawaii, my husband and I decided to explore the less touristy side of Oahu and was ready for lunch and stumbled upon Got'z Grindz online! It was a bit difficult to find, you really have to drive slow when you’re on the street so you don’t miss the building. Seeing the exterior you wouldn't expect to find so many different kinds of musubis neatly organized and displayed, plus we were greeted by a wonderful aroma and friendly staff! There were SO many musubis to choose from, not to mention the amazing smell coming from their beef stew, beef curry, gyudon, and more! We finally decided on Gyudon (Beef bowl), Spicy Tuna Musubi, and Tuna Takuan Furikake Inari. The beef in the gyudon was so soft and tender, the spicy tuna musubi was just the right amount of spicy and had nice soft fluffy rice, and the tuna inari was something new that I tried, and had some interesting flavors but all in all tastes great! Everything was so flavorful, so delicious, the portions were very generous and the prices were super affordable! Not to mention there's so many different options that you'll have to go back a few more times to try everything! Since the spot is more of a grab and go kind of place, the lady who helped us kindly recommended a nearby botanical garden which was great because musubis are the perfect for picnics! We will definitely be back next time we visit Hawaii, Got'z Grindz is a must visit for musubi lovers or anyone looking to try local comfort food.
