A Slice of Mexico on the Windward Coast

Finding genuine Mexican cuisine in the heart of Kaneohe can be a tall order, but El Mariachi consistently fills that gap for locals and visitors alike. Stepping inside, you are greeted by the hum of lively conversation and the savory, slow-cooked aroma of carnitas that hints at the kitchen's dedication to traditional preparation. It is the kind of neighborhood spot where the focus is firmly on the plate rather than pretension.

Flavor Profiles and Culinary Highlights

The menu leans into time-tested staples, with the enchiladas and zesty house-made salsas taking center stage. The chefs here don't shy away from bold, heat-forward profiles, balancing acidity and spice in ways that resonate with the local palate. For those seeking a hearty meal after exploring the nearby Koolau Mountains, the portions are notably generous. You will often find regulars tucking into large platters of fajitas while the scent of freshly charred peppers drifts from the kitchen pass.

The Local Experience

El Mariachi offers a straightforward, no-frills setting that feels like a comfortable extension of the community. It is an ideal stop for a casual weeknight dinner or a relaxed weekend lunch. Be aware that the space can get quite spirited during peak dining hours, so if you prefer a quieter environment, aiming for an early evening slot is your best strategy. Parking in the immediate vicinity requires a bit of patience during the busy lunch rush, but the proximity to major Kaneohe thoroughfares makes it an accessible detour for anyone traveling along the coast.

BEAUTIFUL VIEW!!!!! Will definitely return!!! EVERYTHING was WONDERFUL!!! Staff provided AMAZING customer service. While waiting for your table you are able to walk around the grounds or kill time in the cocktail lounge. Still haven't forgotten the taste of the food served 😋

This was the highlight of my trip. From walking the gardens while waiting for a table, to the friendliness of the staff, and the food. My table had the crab dip, calamari, and coconut shrimp - all amazing. We ordered a prime rib (that must be at least 2 pounds!) Lamb shank, baked fish and NY strip (with the burbon!). I haven't eaten food so amazing in a long time! Oh, their guava butter for the bread? Don't get me started. I cannot recommend this place any higher! Save this for a "fancy" night out and you won't be disappointed.

my family of 5 came here for my birthday dinner. we arrived around 20 mins after opening and they told us the wait would be 60-90 mins. we ended up going to the garden to take some photos then waited in our car for the rest of the time. we ended up getting seated over 90 mins later. we got sat at a table with an amazing view, and got drinks and complimentary bread while we waited for the entrees. the entrees took a while to come out, about 30 mins after ordering. the portions are massive! we got the prime rib (32oz), a full stack of bbq ribs, coconut shrimp, and steamed fish. for dessert we got the paradise pie and the baby cake. the baby cake has a raspberry puree on it which was kind of unique (i’d rate it a 3/5), but the paradise pie was amazing!! overall, plan to spend your entire night at this restaurant, because it’s definitely an experience. the service was slower than expected, but the food and view made up for it. i’d give this place a 4/5, just because of how long we had to wait. in total with tip, the bill came out to a little over $400.

The line was out the door and stretched to the parking lot. Worth the wait? Yes. The service is great. The drinks a fantastic. The food was by far the best on our trip. With the majestic mountains in the back this is the tropical fine dining you need.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Haleiwa Joe's Haiku Gardens is an amazing experience all around. The line might look intimidating when you first get there, but don’t let it scare you—it moves very fast and is absolutely worth the wait. Our waitress, Elena, was awesome—friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Everything we ordered (pictured) was delicious and cooked perfectly. The gardens themselves are beautiful and really set this place apart. Between the food, the service, and the scenery, this is a must-visit spot. Highly recommend!

Beautiful location and premises. Great cocktails. Food is solid. Fish specials are superb. Clam chowder was fantastic - and my family is from New England. Service is always excellent. Opportunties: Ahi appetizer was overly thin and small. Top sirloin was underwhelming. Leaving room for dessert is challenging but well worth it. Colin took care of us masterfully this visit and previously. I’m 63 and can appreciate how superior service contributes to an amazing experience. Tim - please recognize Colin. In summary: do not miss this excellent establishment and its beautiful gardens. It’s truly unique and don’t you deserve it?!?

Wow! This place was spectacular! The views made us feel like we were in a movie! The service was top notch. We got there about 6 and asked for a table on the balcony we were seated 30 minutes later! While you wait you can stroll through the rainforest! How magical! The food was too die for and they know how to make some good drinks! It was on the pricier side but that was expected. We will for sure come back if we visit again ♥️

Definitely a great place for dinner. The service was friendly and attentive. It was crowded and we waited 1hour 45 minutes but totally worth it. There's a pond on the premises with a gazebo for great pictures while waiting. The food was fantastic. We got the primerib which was enormous and cooked perfectly. The raw and creamy horseradish were perfect. The scoop of mashed potato was so creamy and tasty. This is unheard of for 79$. Please don't change. Also got the Cesar salad which was fresh and dressing was spot on. Also got the seafood chowder whis was perfect consistency and had chunks of flavorful fish and clams. Overall a perfect dinner! This is a must do while in Oahu.

Came 20 min before opening and was seated around 30 min after opening. Was able to order apps and drinks after joining the waitlist though! My friends and I ordered the Thai calamari, calamari fries, prime rib, mauka makai, and grilled fish. The calamari fries and grilled fish were my fave! The prime rib order was HUGE - we shared 1 portion amongst 2 people and only finished about half. I thought the prime rib was a bit too thick and chewy, but the flavor was still good. The mangorita drink was my fave! The lilikoi creme brulee and baby cake were both delicious. Our server was so kind and accommodating. Great ambience here, and the price was very fair considering the large portion sizes
